When you consider the majority of F1 style motor racing circuits, the rotation seems to be clockwise.
Which circuits are run anti-clockwise?
-
Sao Paulo is the only anti clockwise F! circuit. However, there are more... Laguna Seca, Mallory Park. Brands Hatch was anti clockwise. And there are a few Australian circuits which are running into the "wrong" direction. Since they are on the other side of the world that is ok. I can't think of any German anti clockwise circuit.
-
Am I right to assume that if most northern hemisphere circuits run clockwise and southern hemisphere anti-clockwise, then equitorial countries only have drag-racing
-
Nice theory but not true I'm afarid. Kylami (South Africa) for instance is clockwise.
-
Rockingham is the only anti clockwise track in UK and I belive that Lastring (how do spell that?) is also the only anti clockwise in Germany. Are not all the ovales in the USA anti clockwise too ?
-
US ovals go anti- clockwise hence the instruction to the driver: "Go like Hell Turn Left"
Road course at Daytona goes anti clockwise too.
At Indy F1 goes Clockwise on the road course.
Most other US road courses clockwise.
same is true for Canadian tracks.

Further to this. Which tracks have, for want of a better phrase, swung both ways.
Indy is one, and I think Brooklands did.
Any others?

Brands Hatch was anti clockwise.....
How long ago was that? It's been clockwise since I first started going there for the old BOAC 500 40 years ago!

So, to return to the question regarding F1 style motor racing circuits -
We've had one answer - Sao Paulo (Interlagos), but there is also another one I know of...............................
-
Sepang International is anti I think.

Much damaged brain cells think that the Hutchinson 500 bike race which ran on August Bank holiday weekends was run anti, that was in the early 70's.
-
Well i never did, Its Imola! Its anti clockwise, so is Surfers Paradise. Was Brands Hatch backwards when it was a cycle track, I will resurch that after a few beers
-
Few beers ahead of you Bobblehat, odd things surface to the top of the skull when you have had a few.
I vaguely remember that Brands also ran anti when it was a grass track circuit in the early days, but that must have been pre WW2?

Only time I saw Brands do summat anti-clockwise was when I used to marshal there in the 80s. Had one of those jet powered truck thingies that was doing some kind of demo thang and blasted away from the line and then shut off and coasted round the whole short (still can't bring myself to call it Indy) circuit anti-clockwise. Very impressive!! Even more so coz I used to marshal at post 3 (top/outside of Paddock Hill bend) and the heat generated from the start line a long way away (and in a dip) was like a blast furnace!
Oh those were the days ... now where did I put those glasses? You know the rose-tinted ones.

Mr Rick - is that the one and only Rickmister ?
If it is, how you doin dude, got to be a God on CA, dude, you need to get away from your PC more ;D
If you are the dude I know, and you know me - The Planman - Team Crapaud from Jersey - Fair play dude, trust you are well ? All plans for this year are in place and lookin forward to seeing you for a beer or 20, may be even a dangle in the Fathers pool?
Keep the faith
The Planman
PS However, if you are not THE Rick, this will mean nothing to you, just pass it by Dude - I mean no harm - like I say, OJ isn't freash without a very badly behaved Vodka in it ;D
-
Hey Planman, 'tis is indeed the Rickmeister rehashed. Mr. Rick is the name given to me buy a gorgeous (19 year old!!!) female friend of mine who happens to be a future Women's World Champion in Cyclo-cross, so have adopted it for my title worldwide.
Looking forward to reliving times in the Fathers' pool in MB 2005. You were sorely missed in 2004! ;D
-
Hi Rick,
Is 2005 the year for Sebring. Come on you know it is. As for the planman, Foe real freash Orange Juice try

Hey Phil! How the devil are you old fruit? Sebring '05 would indeed be a splendid idea, spesh with the DBR9s etc....
Sadly very unlikely. Trips to Germany @ end of Jan (World Cyclo-cross champs) and Madrid in September (final stages of the Vuelta) as well as Lemons of course have fully booked my "honey-do bloketime" vouchers for '05 already!
And talking of Madrid .. off there tomorrow for a sprog free weekend .. woooohhoooooo!!
;D

I was at the BOAC in'68 the year that Ford were entering two 3ltr prototypes but could only get one ready, so Jim Clark went to Hockenhiem instead and the rest is history. The circuit went so quiet when the accident was annouced, I can still remember my feelings now.

Re:Clockwise or Anti-clockwise?
I'm in trouble, I've only got a digital watch. ;D

You need time travel for this, and a bobble hat
Brands was tarmaced in 1950 and anticlockwise being reversed just for bikes in 1952 as paddock was thought too dangerous. All races were clockwise from 1954. Druids was added in 1953, and the GP circuit in 1960.
I think there may have been some bike races run anticlockwise about 1970 as part of a UK/US chalenge series.
We started as the Kent Courage Light Ale Owners Club.
Strangely most Le Mans cars, even Porsches etc, were right hand drive, probably for better vision of apexes, and weight distribution
