Diesel should be more economical on fuel, more powerful and the engine might last a little longer too.

The smaller petrol generators are doing about 60 +vat, but then you get only 800 watts compared to the 1900 watts offered there.

So it's more expensive, but then you get more value for your money ;)

1.9 kw >> 1900 watts
single phase ac genny >>  eeh, easy to use? :-\
dual voltage, 110/230v >> American or European power
dual 16a sockets >> two sockets both with their own fuse
12v dc output >> handy to charge your car battery

Hi Paddy,
You missed the bit about diesels tend to make more noise and they smell too. Ofcourse if your vehicle is a diesel then only one fuel required.

The problem with generators on a LM campsite is that they don't run on urine very well.  Picture the scene, mad Friday, very late, fed up with the rattle from the Dutch campers genny in the middle of the night, you need a leak, the motocross track is so far away and the fuel filler cap is so easy to remove.  Result, you are relieved, the noise stops...next thing you know it's race day!

I would be amazed if you could pee in my generator, Robster. The generator will stay in the lorry ;D

That's a friendly first post Robster!!  :-\  Welcome to Club Arnage.

It's a well known fact that generators make noise and that many people take them to Le Mans (our group included)  This debate has been had before. All I can suggest is you don't camp on Maison Blanche Robster as I know at least 6 groups who will all be camped pretty close to each other who will all have generators with them and pity the fool who goes anywhere near them.

It's a lot easier to have a quiet word with them over a cold beer than risk vandalising someones equipment, or you might end up getting vandalised yourself!!

Robster, you can read the previous generator debate here:

http://www.clubarnage.com/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=2855

Than you can make up your own mind on the consequences of getting caught vandalising someone elses possessions. Take some earplugs is my advice.

I don't think there is any 'might' about it JPC.

I hope I havn't offended anyone!  I was just trying to inject a little humour into the post.  Of course, I wouldn't dream of touching anyones genys so you won't have to worry about the security of your filler caps from our group!  Hopefully, we will be in Houx..with a geny of our own drinking cold beer (cooler than the fag lighter in the caterham powered 'beer cooler' could manage.).

Sorry for any unintended offence...I WAS JOKING!

Robster :)

Glad to hear you were joking Robster. You just touched a raw nerve, that's all.

Hope to see you at the 'poo bar on Saturday night!!!

Another word to the wise, don't bring a portable air raid siren.  Last year on MB, someone thought it would a good wheeze to let us know if there were any marauding Heinkels inbound at various times of the day.  Early morning and competing with the dawn chorus, enough was enough, a few words and silence.

Fireworks are very acceptable.  The larger and louder something like air mines are just dandy.  8)  ::)

Or just hire a "SILENT" genny...

we shall take a board and a spade to dig out a bit of ground to silence the beast , just in case.
