Title: Renault Motorsport free days out - September 10/11
Post by: smokie on April 10, 2005, 11:07:00 am
See here for a free motor sport day. OK, it's Renault, but it's Free and it's a Day Out!

http://tinyurl.com/644xh

A huge two-day motorsport festival offering free entry to enthusiasts, promises to be among this country’s best-attended race meetings when the all-new World Series by Renault comes to Leicestershire’s Donington Park circuit on Saturday and Sunday, 10th/11th September.

It marks the eagerly-anticipated race debut of the awesome Mégane Trophy racer and spectators will also get chance to see Grand Prix stars-in-waiting racing in the brand new Formula 1-style FR 3.5 single-seater.

That's the first time I've seen "awesome" and "Megane" in the same sentance - and probably the last  ;)

I've applied for 4 tickets and got them. They are posted out in August so you wont forget it is on.

Being that the are free I would suggest we all apply, it could be a national CA meet!!!

Renault may even win every F1 race this year if they carry on at this rate. If they do Renault will be having a big show at Donnington!!

Well, it seems too good a chance to get to a real CA meeting so I have booked a foursome too.

Awesome Megane huh? ;D

I have been overawed by some Meganes in the past... Electronics that are so cutting edge that they cut the edge off........

"Tales to tell I could, young Skywalker!" :-X

How long did it take for people to receive the email that you have to click on to confirm the request? I applied this morning and haven't had one yet!  :(

Yes maybe for that butt ugly current model that they make.

But if you ever saw the previous model Megane Coupe 2 litre Kit Car rally car, in 6th gear, sat on the rev limiter on the narrow tarmac roads on the Manx Rally, then AWESOME is the only word you would use to describe it.

My earlier comment still stands! - the secret is that word 'Megane', it just doesn't cut the moutarde.

Monsieur Chenet, my acknowledgement came back instantly - it must be that dodgy e-mail address you're using  ;)

That said I chased one of the new Renaultsport Megane 225's some time ago up the M11 & along the new A120. It was blisteringly quick, dunno what it's like to drive but he was going some!! Thankfully he didn't get away from me in my ZR all the way up to 70mph... :-X

Just hope the cars at Donnington are as quick as the emails!!  ;D

Nigel,  Maybe we could arrange a car share and both save money. The way fuel prices are increasing it could be £10 a gallon by September.
Have you noticed that the Shell station at the crossroads has put his price up by 5 pence a litre since the Esso opposite has closed for refurbishment, bastard.

Which crossroads ?
Mind you, I drive an oil burner in the week and then come the weekend, I could give a monkey what the fuel price is, I just want to ring the neck of the sweet sounding flat 6.
Regarding the Renault day, I'll keep in touch with you. I've asked for 4 tickets, so will probably have a car full, or 2 car fulls, depending on what car I take.

Sorry, I forgot you are on the other side of the valley. I was talking about Hazlemere crossroads

Might well be worth a look - particularly if it's a free gig.
The boss's son will be competeing in the Formula Renault 2 Litre race at this meeting. Co-incidentally, it was the season opener at Donnington at the weekend. The lad is in 6th place after the first two races and should be a title contender this year - not that I give a flying fart about open wheel racing, you understand.

It's a while since I've been there, but IIRC, Donnington is a pretty good spectators track!!   Not sure if there's any camping there, but I'm sure someone with better knowledge will be able to come up with something. Perhaps a block booking at an hotel or B&B.

Never hurts to stay in the boss's good graces though ::)

Matt,
I'd have to agree with ya.  Single seater racing sucks these days.
Give me the sportscars, tin-toppers and the bikes.  Leave the open wheelers to the girlie boys who want to be F1 princesses.

John,
I'll play the devils advocado and say that I enjoy one particular type of open-wheeled, single seat racing that kickes all other arses  ;D

Whoops Steve, agree with you there.  Didn't mean to insult any of the straight line rocket men by lumping them in as "single seaters".  Ah hell, you know what I meant...  ;)

All well & true but the Champ Car season looks like it'll blow F1 well out of the water, last weekend the first 13 cars finished within 20 seconds of each other & from reading race reports it was quite an action packed race, oh if only I had satellite to watch it :(

Ah yes, when you bring out the pace every five or ten laps, cars tend to remain close together.  I've been to a hell of alot of CART races over the years and both CART and the IRL are a bad joke now.
