Club Arnage

Our party don't usually arrive till late Wed, but coming earlier this year.  Did someone mention that there is a meet at the Stella Bar on Wednesday evening?

It's the 'Greet the Moose' session at 9pm, timed for the gap in qualifing, technical ends when qualifing restarts, however has been known to go on longer ;D ;D ;D.

Last year I wish I had accepted Smokie's offer of a lift back to MB, it had been a long day, and it was a long way back to Bleu from Tetre Rouge on foot, even declined an offer of low flyers from the Liverpool boys, I was that tired....and emotional ;)

Tertre Rouge was well attended last year. and, in the words of those great songsters D-Ream, Things Can Only Get Better...and they do, every year... :)

I'm rather partial to the draft Leffe at the Stella Bar.

As I've previously arrived on Thursday morning I've  issed this event in the past. This year however we arrive on Monday morning so I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces on Wednesday evening.  :)

And Brian, my mission this year is to drag you, Ian and Chris over to our "village" to recipricate some of your generous hospitality!!  :D Even if it has to be on Monday night before the majority of your visitors arrive!!  :)

Dumb question,
Is the Srella Bar the one on the road down from the main  entrance heading towards town, just past the overbridge?.

Basically, it's not the one at the start of the Mulsanne...

The Stella bar IS at Tertre Rouge (beginning of the Mulsanne) The one just up from the entrance used to be the Heinekan bar until last year when it had changed to Kronenbourg livery.

As JP rightle says, the one out the front of the main entrance is now a Kronenburg outlet. It's also known as Hell's Gate. Does my head in every friday before our usual trip into town.

Another Dumb Question

How do you get to it bearing in mind the road is closed, or is it on the 'open' side of the gates at Tertre Rouge?

As you're on MB DelBoy the easiest way will be to walk over with us!!  :D

Otherwise, leave the inside of the circuit through Parking Vert or Interieur Musee or Tertre Rouge camping and turn left. Then it's just under the bridge. If going by car, follow the "Vert" signs from Carrefour and you go past it on the approach road.

We walk round the top of the circuit, past Dunlop, go through the tunnel under the circuit just before Tetre Rouge corner. This brings you out on the inside of the corner, in the small triangular field between the allotments and Tetre Rouge. From here, go to the end of the field and out the gate (remember to get a pass out). Turn left out the gate, under the underpass that has the track on it, and the Stella Bar is on your left.
From access gate to bar is about 150m max.

If it's the Stella Bar you want then it's best approached on foot from inside the circuit by exiting the Bugatti Circuit at the Parking Vert entrance, turn left then walking along the road  (the Chemin des Boeufs). Go through the tunnel under the track and the bar is immediately on your left.

I wouldn't recommend driving there as there is nowhere to park, well apart from on the grass verges at risk of being moved on by the friendly gentlemen of the CRS. And anyway it somewhat defeats the object of going there in the first place......

Not only good for Stella, the Leiffe is pretty good too.

You're right about the CRS hanging out on that junction. I also remember that there is a house opposite the Stella bar that has played host to Aston Martin OC in the past. I reckon there will be some nice hardware there this year!
Although the CRS are pretty hard nosed with motorists around there, they ignored me last year when I had to have a little power nap in the woods after completely over cooking it on the Friday night. Much to my annoyance, they also seemed to turn a blind eye to people going in the woods for a piss. Not the best place to kip when you're hammered.

I appreciate what you say, but it's a long hike back to MB from there on (hopefully) wobbly pins!

If, like us, you're camped in Houx Annexe, then its simplicity itself.  A 5 minute wander towards Tetre Rouge, under the bridge and the bar's on the left.  Robert is your mother's brother.

The upstairs part of the bar is shut during the race but there's a large covered / open air area out back and down below with long tressle tables, a bar and poulet frites for sale.

Arrhhh, I can taste the draft Leffe now  :P

DelBoy - I REALLY wouldn't recommend driving there unless of course you have a designated driver, in which case I pity the poor sucker.

The CRS may not bother much about p*ssing in the woods, but driving under the influence could be a bit of a different matter.

We got cabs back to our camp site last year on the Saturday, and to a man, everyone(bar cabs and buses) were stopped and tested.
Don't risk it.

I'm still amazed at how quickly all the fencing and screening came down and the road was re-opened!!!  :o

Is the tunnel and the viewing area on the inside of Tetre Rouge still going to be there. Or has it been removed due to  the work done on TR during the winter?

Still was bound to happen eventually. The Stella is reassuringly expensive so will try the Leffe which is probably more. Both very unFrench beers.

No, I believe the sign said it was closed for about a month.
Probably the owners' annual holiday or so.

Too bad, wanted to grab a pint there then. Further up the N138 the Chinese restaurant and that restaurant next to it were way too busy.

What price the beer at the Stella?

The pub outside the main entrance and up the hill was 5 euros a pint last year, and I think 4 euros the year before. It was ram jam and the pisser was swimming!

The whole place is a bit dear compared to Guernsey (no VAT etc) but then we wouldn't be able to have a 24 hour race, well we could but the drivers would get dizzy as the island is only 25sq miles.

Martini...any time etc...
