Title: couple of questions from a noob... Post by: GrahamL on June 02, 2005, 11:21:36 am Starting to get v excited now - I leave for LM on the 15th, so will be there for qualifying on wed night. Have got break down cover on the second car (first choice has jacked in this week, so no trip to LM there), which led to a conversation with Direct Line re breakdown cover that went along the following lines:
Me : I’d like to cancel my breakdown cover please. Direct line: why? Me : my car has broken down…. Other than that, tent is sorted, tickets have arrived, have new E111, got dirt cheap travel insurance (www.travelinsuranceweb.com) need to dig out a little radio (thanks for the advice!) and get some euros and then I’m done. Virtually sitting packed and ready to go. Cant wait. I have a couple of questions that I’m sure you’ll be able to help me with: What’s the campsite nearest the Porsche Curves called? And, What times/days are the public roads closed prior to the race starting? TIA. Graham. Title: Re:couple of questions from a noob... Post by: Barry on June 02, 2005, 11:41:14 am Beaujeause is the camp site.
On Wednesday and Thursday they start shutting the roads at 1pm. On Saturday at 6am. It has been known for the police to close the roads from Mulsanne to the crossroads at the Porsche curves on an ad hoc basis on Friday. Depends how much fun people are having ;D Hope this helps. Much appreciated. G. Title: Re:couple of questions from a noob... Post by: Haggispeed on June 02, 2005, 12:22:49 pm If they are shutting roads in the afternoon does that prevent access to the sites ?
I don't expect we'll be getting there till early evening ont eh Thursday, will have camping ticket sorted out but was going to buy general admittance ticket when we got there, would you advise getting those ahead of time. Title: Re:couple of questions from a noob... Post by: DelBoy on June 02, 2005, 12:28:28 pm If they are shutting roads in the afternoon does that prevent access to the sites ? No - all sites are accessible even when the roads are shut to make up the full track. There are well-signposted diversions to anywhere you want to get to when you would normally use a road that is now closed. No problems about getting entry tickets either - these are always available. You will have to be displaying the appropriate pass, but that will allow you access I'm sure.
GA tickets are available in plentiful supply at the circuit. You can even buy them froim local supermarkets, so you can get them en-route to the circuit, or when you rock up to the entrance. Don't worry about these, as long as your camping pass is sorted. Title: Re:couple of questions from a noob... Post by: tink on June 02, 2005, 01:04:51 pm only problem you might get around the porsche curves is that when they close the roads they tend to put in place some confusing one-way systems, which can mean you have to drive a very long way round to cover a very short distance. but like delboy said, everything is (reasonably) well signposted
