Newbie Le Mans guy here, wondering if anyone uses a radio scanner to pick up pit-to-driver chat during the race? I'm aware of RLM, and have the headset radio packed, just need to know if I should bring my scanner?
TIA,
Jim

Hi Jim,
We've tried a scanner in the past, and we got a great insight into how the catering contractors work, but no pit lane chat I'm afraid. That was quite a while ago though and things change, so why not take it along anyway.

Didn't hear it personally, but I understand that the communication picked up on a scanner of Derek Bell telling his pit that his Harrod's McLaren had packed up was really choice, particularly in terms of what he had to say about McLaren gearboxes and Ron Dennis, and then Derek was such a gentleman about it when talking publicly on Radio Le Mans about 10 minutes later! Presume on that basis that scanners will work there.

One of our guys works for Motorola. He's trying to get some inside info on frequencies and the like as one of their top techies is going out at the weekend to oversee the radio setup for a lot of the teams.

This is a long shot!!! :-\
Try contacting ARB in guildford .they are the radio shack which sets up all the comms at le mans for the race.
One of their enigineers is a customer of mine and he told me about 6 years ago that they do all the radio work including pits and marshalls.

Thanks for the responses, folks. If anyone comes up with the team frequencies, please post them. Scanners are pretty popular at North America races, lists of frequencies are available on the internet, and if you don't have a scanner yourself, you can usually rent one at the track. However, I can't find frequencies for American Le Mans races, either, so something is different about sportscars.....

Hi RacerJim, Sportscars are more discreet ::)
You will need spare batteries as your charger will not work in France. I find RLM more interesting anyway.

I have tried searching for the ARB details in Guildford but keep drawing a blank. Does anyone have anymore details so I can contact them.
Thanks in advance.
