Anyone else notice that the Union Flag on top of the pit-stands was, at least on Saturday, upside down? It was the same last year.
Perhaps the ACO were asking for help. :( :( :( :( :(

probably not as obvious as the Dutch flag hanging upside-down (as seen at a support race to the 1000km Spa last year) ;D
-
Yes I noticed that too. Mind you there were several Union Flags being flown upside down in the Campsites. But I supose they may well have been in distress. :-)

did we have it upside down? (Union Jack provided by JPChenet)

Thats the correct way. The broad white Diagonal should be upermost next to the Pole.

well, it was a chance of one in two... :D
-
The cross of St Andrew is above that of St Patrick at the hoist because the cross was added to the flag before St Patrick's cross, therefore the cross of St Andrew is entitled to the higher position
Sounds logic to me ::)
;D

Its a worrying thought that Steve Brown is trawling through junior school websites...... :-\
I was looking for details of your convent school Fran ::)
-
Then you weren't paying attention to an earlier thread (6 weeks ago?) where I correctly identified it :)
-
I could have made a funny remark here about archeoligy, but I think I better leave that for now, don't think I could take the punishment from Fran at Silverstone for a remark like that ;D ;D
(referring to Steve's remark)
-
Phew Paddy, that was a close one, I thought you were going to get in trouble then.
Oops, I think you just did... :-\ ;D
-
The Union Flag has been upside down above the pits since atleast 1998 when I first spotted it.
Thanks DelBoy for saying flag and not Jack as it is only a union Jack when flown on a Navy ship or queens appointed residence/office or government building
-

There are a number of rules regarding the Flying of the Union Flag.
The Union flag must always be flown in a superior position ie:
i) the highest flagpole
ii) the centre flag pole where there is an odd number of poles of the same height
iii) the left centre flag pole viewed from the front of the building, where there is an even number of the same height.
For the full scoop on these things see Department for Culture, Media and Sport Flag Flying (http://www.culture.gov.uk/flagflying/faqs.htm)
Soooo Paddy you were not flying the flag correctly that is a beer buying offence. I'll collect the fine next year. ;D

Well, we're Dutch. Would be weird to have the Union Jack at top then...
The Dutch flag was at about 17 metres above the ground. That means the ClubArnage Flag was waving at a height of about 16 metres, viewable from the MB grandstand 8)
ii) the centre flag pole where there is an odd number of poles of the same height
none of the poles were the same height, the flag was hanging in the "middle" pole though :)
iii) the left centre flag pole viewed from the front of the building, where there is an even number of the same height.
I have built a lot on MB, but didn't put up a building! :D

now you're talking, I wish the police would take such fines ;D
-
I was going to make a remark about not being cheeky and mentioning achaeology if you cant even spell it
Can you spell it Fran? ;)
-
I can, with a bit of help ;D
archaeology 8)
-
We even had the Toyota F!-racing flag over the Union flag. ;D
Whats the fine for that? :P
-
What if you had the Queens colours higher than the Jack?

Hmmm... Thats another beer buying offence then.
t.

Firstly it only a Union Jack when flown on a Royal Navy Ship.
So that's a beer buyiing offence.
The Royal Standard should be flown above the Union Flag.
But! It's illegal to fly The Royal Standard.
I belive that's another Beer you owe me!.
BTW. Were you on BSJ in the third field?
t.

Team Sharpe were deployed on Houx, situated behind the shower block, massive gazeebo with many Royal Ensigns flying, plus Jacks on the pool and the Queens colours flying at 26 ".
