:-* :-* :-*
Hi - I need a car to get down to Le Mans next year - preferably the above and preferably sooner than June 2006.
FDSH!
Immaculate interior (well that is true)
low mileage!
There is nothing on Ebay - a helpful Club-Arnage member only managed to find a 'modern' Mexico for sale and it was green - I thought the MK 1 Mexico was only made in orange but I could be wrong - I often am.
Will be in UK in August to pay and collect.

Thanks Fran
Why did I think the Escort Mexico was only Orange??
I know it was my first ever car - 10 lessons beginning, the day I was 17. Paid for by my mum, BSM. But thank goodess for that as I had to drive myself to the hospital to have Elliott, my son (obviously) who is now 16, pretty soon after.
So, was it the JEANS BEETLE that was only orange - with a rather nice tasteful denim interior?
Ta for the advice about the alloys (I do know all about them, however,).. Sorry for being daft, but is Cralos Fandabngo a real person? I have heard my ex husband go on about him a lot - and never asked why! Thought he was just reffering to himeself.
I do actually know a bit about fast stuff but perhaps not as much as you.
Speak soon i hope - don't mean to be sooooo negative.
sh*t is happening though

The Bond Bug was only orange, but thats not likely to be mixed up with anything else!!!!!!
The "set of carlos fandango wheels" reference is from an old advert, the car had giant wheels and wheel arches, drove thru a gateway n ripped em off again! It might have been Hamlet, but might not..... i daresay Steve Brown can find a still from it given a bit of time!

The RS owners club cater for Mexico's
http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/
If you go to the local regions clubs they mostly have 'a for sale' section. I found a couple of mexico's on offer,
BTW, I had a Nordic blue Mk2 RS2000 droop nose. still the best car I ever owned.

Doh! Sorry I should have realised. I did wonder why you had such desire for a modern escort ;)
-
There seems to be just one for sale on AutoTrader at the moment.
Click Here To See Car Details (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?lid=search_used_cars_full&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCHmodelexact=1&miles=1&min_pr=4800&max_pr=4800&min_pr=4800&postcode=ML1%205PY&make=FORD&model=ESCORT&locale=STF)
I am also pretty sure that the Mexico is covered by the RS Owners club ( www.rsownersclub.co.uk )

Thats nice.

Thats nice, where is it? (just interested, wouldnt try to jump in)

If you mean the one I listed from Auto Trader, it does not say where it is, but simply lists it as being 345 miles from my location, which is Bromley (South London/Kent border). This would put it somewhere North of a line between Carlisle and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
-
Or near a favourite location in France???
Yes I know, it's not THAT far to LM!!! ;D
-
RS2, it is showing as 1 mile from me, send cheque on my way to look.

Wowsers!!!
are you serious??!
how lucky am I?
just make sure about the interior Brian, as i do not want it to have belonged to an ex Doberman owner - although the Doberman would come in very handy just now, (if it was called Killer)
I can tfr the cash to you direct - cheques are now virtually extinct.
A reason to live - a new car - just what I needed.
That being said - you cannot sleep with a car - only in it!

Hate to spoil the anticipation of a quick blast in an old classic, but the link defaults to a 1 mile location. Try adding your postcode to the box, then selecting the national search, then see what you get, although this may then need to be refined with a "mexico" addition to the criteria. You may also need to register (free and you only get about one junk mail a year) to search fully.
-
Brian I think it WILL show as 1 mile if you haven't put in a postcode. It was 1 mile from me too...

ESCORT MEXICO MK1
A very good example of a genuine 1973 MK1 AVO Registered Escort Mexico. Recently Restored. The engine block has been bored and honed to 1700cc with a Kent BCF2 Camshaft and runs on twin 45's choke weber carburetters (also have original) a new radiator and battery have recently been fitted. The rear suspension has spax adjustable gas shock absorbers with a strut brace on the front. The exhaust system is a free flow scorpion system. The car has recently been re-sprayed and new carpet fitted, the interior is pretty standard with the front seats re-covered with leatherette. The car has loads of service history. If you wish to view please call 07704796248 and this can be arranged.
Buyer to collect. Please pay by Cash, Postal Order or Bankers Draft
:-* :-\ :-\
Question is - does this mean that the car is, in fact, fantabulous and will be worth that much money?
A free flow scorpion system? New carpet and leatherette though (which I do FULLY understand)
As much as I thought I knew and appreciated voitures in general- I think I have a lot more to learn :-\
There is no MOT in Jersey - so if the car has no cills, a bent chassis and dodgy seatbelts we will be ok!.
I am still serious and it just needs to be close enough to one of you lot to check it out first however.

Based in Leek Staffordshire if anyone lives close enough.
Bit too far for me to have a look Lisa.
-
Lisa,
Am I correct that you live in France ?
If so then i saw a nice looking yellow Mk 1 Mexico for sale on a garage forecourt whilst on my way down to Le Mans. I can't give any info on the condition or price but it looked pretty nice as i drove past it.
As to the location, this is a tricky one, but i am pretty sure that it was just outside of Rouen. After you exit the motorway for the Le Mans/ Alencon exit, there is a short section about 1/2 mile with a garage on the right. You then turn left near a cafe / bar and this takes you down a sweeping hill onto the N138. Do you know the bit of road that I mean. I am sure that the car was at the front of the forecourt of a car sales place either at the petrol station or a garage next to it , before turning left onto the N138.
I am not sure how you would go about finding out the name and phone number of the place to ring up and find out though !

Around Junction 24 if my map reading is any good.
Hope this helps a little.
-
I remember that it looked very much like the picture that Steve Brown posted on page 1 because i remember mentioning to my brother in law how nice it looked as we drove past it.
-
Just a thought, a CA member may have stopped at this fuel station before setting off down the N138, and may well have a fuel receipt with a phone number on it. May be worth asking on the board !
-
We always stop at that fuel stop but sadly paid by cash.
-
:-* :-* :-*
You are just brilliant Chris 24. I think I am about 2 hours from the garage so it is worth a look.
I was thinking of trying to get one in France but, after going to a recent 'car fest' thing a few weeks ago where all you could buy was Peugeout, Renault and Citroen bits I was a bit put off.
I did, however, see a brown Ford Cortina for sale in a village down the road from me but it wasn't my thing really!!!
Thanks for your help chaps.
Until I say otherwise , I am still on the look for the Mexico.

If you are stuck for a lift next year lisa you could always jump on the back of the bike

thanks Chris
Lisa

Or jump in our mini bus ??
-
Or take a lift with some gentlemen with class!

:-* :-* :-*
Thanks Robbo - Thanks Black Granny, I appreciate your offers.
Maybe I should now see what the best offer of a lift would be for next year?
So far I have the back of a bike, the minibus and whatever Black Granny drives.
Any advance on that, lest the Mexico remains illusive?
Lisa

if you suceed to find it before december, you could come to my rally...
... you not only find Renault, peugeot and Citroen in french car fest (however how many of this cars do you see in british car fest ??)
Sad that you're not looking for a Mustang because I know a well(established importater 20 kms from LM...
-
Gilles, I know a possible exporter of Mustangs from the US as well!
Hi Matt!! ;)

:-* :-* :-*
Erm.............thanks JPChenet but can we please keep to the topic in question!
It's a MK1 Escort Mexico that I need!! (don't suppose you could ask your mate Johnny if he knowa of any for sale)

Sorry Chaps - have not been checking out my thread recently - the quest to purchase a Mexico is ongoing.
However, as is usually the case, in true 'chicken and egg' syndrome something has to come first and that would be cash.
So until I sell one of the properties here in France or meet a trillionaire the quest is on the back burner.
merci Gilles, je comprand vous suggestion, je desole je ne pas accept

At the risk of sounding incredibly anal, the UK Jeans Beetle was only available in Tunis Yellow but other shades elsewhere. And ok, it is kinda orange...
and this one is for sale!
But so as not to be completely off topic, I have a mate that has a Mk1 Mexico that will be for sale soon. I've no idea as to it's present condition, but will find out..
-
:-* :-* :-*
Thanks Mr Volks Repair Man - keep me posted on the essy
With regard to the Jeans beetle however, how much is it going for, I couldn't make out the price sticker in the window.
Cheers

The Jeans is up for £2600 but any offers considered, here's a link
http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=194850
it really is a good one but very slow! (what do you expect with 34bhp!)
Apparently the Mexico is a long way of finished I'm afraid, and has some competition history so likely to very pricey when done. Sorry!
