Title: strikes!!!!!!! Post by: monkey on June 03, 2003, 09:32:10 am Sorry if this has been covered off already but. I have noticed that the latest strikes in France seem to be restricted to Tuesday's. Is there anyone, (Fab perhaps) who knows whether these disputes are scheduled and if so, do you know how they may effect travel next week and the early part of the week after. Is there any news on the possibility of the dispute being resolved and are they effecting travel once you get into France? Any ifo would be apprciated. Monkey.

I will tell you asap all the news I have concerning in particular transportation strike. Most of you who come by car could be not affected except as I already experiment it.... ... free tolls ! For the others who have planes or trains, I first hope you flight on your national companies and not Air France :P Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: hgb on June 03, 2003, 01:18:12 pm Is that true, Gilles. No tolls, ahhh paradise. :D

Tuesday, 10th is planned to be a day of general strike!!!!!! You probably won't get any train or just a few this day and the morning following. Better is to rent a car if you are stopped at the airport, or advance your travel from tuesday to monday ! Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: Mr. Rick on June 04, 2003, 02:03:26 pm General strike Tues 10th? Cripes!!
Will this be restricted to planes and trains or will the good old ferry contingent come out to play too? Still haven't booked my crossing yet but likely to be Monday on the Tunnel Shuttle - maybe a bad idea and ferry a better option? Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: mgmark on June 04, 2003, 02:07:04 pm Great - that'll be traffic backed up at the ports then. Would have thought it is most likely to be the lot, including the ferries, although Eurotunnel is normally pretty much OK. Bearing in mind that the strikes normally cover the working day, night sailings should be OK, although catching up the backlog could be an issue. Make sure your fuel tank is full before you leave UK, pack the emergency rations and expect the unexpected!
Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: Gilles on June 04, 2003, 02:07:48 pm if your eurostar is direct from england to le mans, you may not have lots of problems. If you go via paris and have to change of train.... have a good luck.
I don't have any news concerning ferries perturbations ! Sorry :-\ Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: monkey on June 04, 2003, 06:44:28 pm thanks for all the info if you hear anything, be grateful if it could be posted, also for the week after, Monday the 16/06/03. Still team monkey will get there, even if it means swimming and walking. monkey
Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: smokie on June 04, 2003, 09:25:12 pm Hmmm...and will Carrefour be open Tuesday????
Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: Gilles on June 04, 2003, 10:33:09 pm :D yes Carrefour will be open :D
In France, a general strike is only done by public services and state workers. :-\ As our train company is still public (to simplify.....), this is an "union fortress"... and they have the mean to block the whole country. Carrefour is (hopefully) a private company, and employees never do strike. With its half-public status, the ACO won't go on strike either. Did you imagine if ACO would be on strike next week? It would be no controllers at the entrance of the campsites... ... but no race either to attend ! Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: monkey on June 05, 2003, 10:16:59 am Gilles, do you know if the strike is scheduled for one day only? Is there one also planned for 17th, and are they effecting the ports and the tunnel? Sorry so many questions. Thanks. monkey
Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: Ruptured Duck Motorsport on June 05, 2003, 01:40:31 pm fingers crossed that the ferries will be OK... I have a super soaker just in case ;D
Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: Gilles on June 05, 2003, 11:37:46 pm the strike is planned (but I'm really not sure of their determination) for one day only, but due to the time they need to regulate the traffic to return to normal time, it could last also wednesday morning, mostly affecting trains and metros in Paris.
I'm investigating some unions' HQs to know more about it ! Title: Re:strikes!!!!!!! Post by: pretzel on June 06, 2003, 08:29:17 pm Gilles,
Just a vote of thanks for your information. Makes it a lot easier for those of us travelling around the time of the proposed action to be a little more sure of uninterrupted journeys to La satrhe. 5 days to go before the off and counting....... |
