Title: Camping space
Post by: Chris (Liverpool Boys) on September 16, 2005, 10:13:02 am
I have just been looking at prices for crossings etc for next year as cant do the full 10 days as normal. and I know we had major problems with the ACO this year regarding space allowed and how many vehicles etc. well i have just been on the aco ticket site and this is written onwhere you book tickets:-

(place area 5mx7m)
Does not include entrance ticket. Book one place per vehicle (coach forbidden). Grounds open from June 13th to 19th. Ticket from June 15th to 19th 2005, additional day* to paid on place for the Monday and/or Tuesday.

Maybe the are going to try and have another go this time around and police the space a bit more???

We saw this somewhere, and tried to stick to it, but we were never bothered as we didn't have a "Lido" and I think they assumed every tent had a pass.  The problem is that a decent size caravan, awning and car is 5mx7m

It does, however, confirm the date as 17/18 June for the main event.

"they are going to try and have another go this time around and police the space a bit more??"

But they have to do something before people arrive, not wait for you to set up and then expect you to change everything like this year...and start painting white lines on the Tuesday...

Smokie, do you think the ACO read the forum?  If they do, you could be giving our secrets away. 8)

Can't see how they can enforce a 5X7mtr pitch; space would have to be provided for vehicle access to the pitches.  How have they managed in Houx.  Never been there but i understand each pitch is numbered with good access.  Maybe its something Monsieur Gilles could help us with?

I hope they don't try this - my tent is close to that size on it's own!!  Having said that there are always 4/5 of us in it and I think this year we'll have a couple of cars so have (hopefully - pretty please nice man at the ACO) ordered 3 MB passes so presumably we'll be OK.

We set up on the Monday morning last year and didn't get asked for extra cash and weren't asked to comply with 5m x 7m - we wondered at the time if that was because we had only claimed as much space as we needed and didn't appear to be "taking the piss" so the nice man left us alone.

I went to Houx this year. It's marked out in lines, like large car park bays. I prefer the randomness of MB and others...

We struggled to get the tent onto our pitch on Houx in 2004 - not helped by the tree that was already on the pitch.  If it wasn't for the family on the pitch next door letting us put our guy ropes onto their pitch we'd have been in real trouble!  Luckily (for all of us!) there were a couple of empty pitches in our roadway and these were used by a number of pitches for car parking.   The pitches on Houx are OK if you've got a small tent and a car, but other than that unless you can get adjoining pitches you'd need to be very careful about what you're taking.

The 5 by 7 meters rule was known to us last year, however we expected no problems with our big setup and only 4 camping tickets, and innitialy they left us allone.

Bugging everybody around us, except us, maybe they like the Dutch. But we cheered to soon as some suit turned up on I think it was Friday to bitch about our pitch and the number of cars without tickets we had on the plot. But i turned out to little to late and they gave up there complaints and left us alone, also because Robbo pitched right in front of us and he had plenty of tickets for all of our space.

If they really want to enforce this rule, they should put someone at the entrance gate of MB who really only lets people in with tickets attached firmly to the windshield and marked out pitches. Last year there was this kid standing at the gate checking tickets, he was easy to convince to let extra cars in, no problem whatsoever.

Just to be on the safe side next year we ordered 10 MB tickets, so we should have plenty of space for our setup.

Well, I was just about to say we'll probably have a smaller pitch with more tickets. Will Steve ever believe me though? ;D

Besides, we'll probably never move to HA, I think we'd sooner try KN or PB, but most likely to end up at BSJ if MB is a nogo :-\
