Title: Christmas CA Planning Session
Post by: Andy Zarse on December 01, 2005, 12:36:36 pm
Last year quite a few CA'ers met up at the Argyle Arms for an evening's beer drinking, later a few of us went somewhere else with Rusty for more drink. Some of us won't remember it at all, I'm refering here to JPC.

Would anyone be willing to repeat the exercise? When, where, and who?

When and where???

The easter event was in Covent Garden if I remember correctly, as nobody fancied the Argyle.  Most cental London pubs are poor, and packed on a Friday night. (and the Mitre is probably too small).

The Citie of Yorke opposite Chancery Lane always seemed quiet, but as its Sam Smiths, the lagers poor.  The Old Bank of England (Fullers) may be worth a try.

What about Friday 16th for the date.

Anyone know the Princess Louise in High Holborn, round the corner from Holborn Underground

Friday 16th sounds good to me.

The Princess Louise looks promising.

I can do the 16th provided we meet up in the late afternoon. I have to be in Bisley near Woking for about 8.30/9.00pm. Anyone know which is the best train to get near Bisley?

Sunningdale is on the slow line to Reading and about 50 mins out of Waterloo, but I don't remember Taxi rank.  Woking must be quicker

Going shooting?

Andy, Brookwood is the nearest station. It's on the line from Waterloo and Woking heading towards Basingstoke or Alton.

It's the 45 minute return journey that usually causes the problems. :)

sarcasm gets so easily lost in translation. i go virtually right past that pub on my way to uni each day!

not that it really matters, and not that anybody would really care, but i actually think the cittie of yorke pub is pretty decent. the beers in there are a lot better than the usual carling/carlsberg/fosters piss poor lager type beers.

anyways, hopefully i'll see some of you at the princess louise

You've said the dreaded L word  :o

(and you started off so well mentioning 'beer').

yeah ok, so if we're being technical i'm more known for my lager drinking, and as such not beer drinking. so i dont know if the 'beers' in there are any good, but the 'lagers' are better than average!

What time are people planning on arriving for this 'planning session'?  I have secured the afternoon of work so can be there mid afternoon onwards, but don't want to start a marathon as a sprint and end up doing a Paula Ratcliffe.

Well done - reserve a large table, as I won't make it till 5:30

Whoops - I've an odd half days holiday due, and what better use can I find for it.  I can do some Christmas shopping first too. (Wife gets DVDs, everyone else gets tools or booze - simple but it works)

I guess I would be there about 16.00 hours. I'll be coming straight from Gatwick where I am due to land from Ireland at 14.30.

I popped into the Princess Lou, as I just happened to be walking past at 7pm.  Typical london boozer, and I think its the same beer as the Cittee.

Be nice to get the tables at the front.  Should be there before 4 with any luck.

I was wondering why 16th rang a bell...it's because I will be away with the Mrs that night (and 17th).

As it happens we are staying in London (well, Wembley) but I don't think her idea of a romantic evening will be swapping stories about the crappers in Maison Blanche and other LM delights...

So I'll have to wait for the Spring Planning session, which I understand is being held somewhere in Florida in march...  ??? ???

I'd be worried if her idea of a romantic evening was spending it in Wembley Smokie!!!!!!!

God moves in mysterious ways...

The trip was a birthday prezzie from the girls for us to stay two nights, including tickets to Status Quo at Wembley on the Saturday. Breakfast News today reports that due to Rick Parfitt having suspect throat infection the concert is cancelled.

Whether that releases me is another matter...

Sounds like you have a lot more chance now Smokie, far more than me anyway.

Go for it, anyway she might be bustin a gut to meet the CAers in a Lunnon pub, ask...

She's obviously reasoning that a night with a book is much more exciting than anything else you could get up to!!!

Smokie,

When you say 'too late' what exactly does this mean?

Is 5am the following morning 'too late' or 'early the next morning'?

The vagaries of the English language.  What a great thing it is!   ;D

Great night guys! If it wasn't for the presence of Gaz and Rob I would be seriously worried about JP's getting home ability. I think Tropicoma is a myth, he was hammered on about four pints of lager!

Great to meet Doris (you really mustn't come on your own next time!!!!), Lorry and Bob U and I had a really great chat with Rusty who is one top guy. I can safely say that Maison Blanche is going to be dangerous next year - full Kevlar body suits all round!

Happy Christmas everyone and see you soon.

Yep good night.  Sorry I left a little early, but I had been out to Lunch, and been there since 4 (when it was only half full).

And well done with the T shirt Doris - I was getting worried that no one was there.  I'd been staring at every idiot that walked in, trying to work out if there was any sign of LM Madness.

Have a good Christmas and see you all in 6 months, if not before.

Damn that Apple Juice!!!

Man oh man did I have a sore head on Saturday.  Actually that might have more to do with cracking it on the pavement than anything else but I'm really not too sure.    ::)

Note to self - eat before going drinking next time....

Great night out and really good to see you all.  Have a great Christmas and New Year!!!
