Title: Radio Le Mans Debate Post by: IanS on February 24, 2006, 02:32:27 pm Does any one know what happened to the Friday afternoon Radio Le Mans live debate? I think it ceased a couple of years back. It was a great way of meeting teams and gave a great insight into team preparation. Hugh Chamberlain would not be seen anywhere else, not to mention resting weary feet whilst having a few beers. Come on Hindy sort it out.

I do remember Guy Smith doing a chat for a while. Title: Re: Radio Le Mans Debate Post by: Paddy_NL on February 24, 2006, 03:57:21 pm You'll be only a few days from home, and then missing Radio 4 already? :-\

IMNSHO, Radio Le Mans has gone downhill in the last three or four years. It seems to me they are catering for the Internet Radio Crowd and those Mobile Text people. In it's hayday it used to visit the camp sites talk to fans around the place. It's style was more in keeping with the general way of life at Le Mans. What shame they are not sponsored by Jiffy Condoms any more. t. Title: Re: Radio Le Mans Debate Post by: Rhino on February 28, 2006, 11:52:41 pm Found the best time to listen was in the early hours of sunday, the two where on were like the old days, more interested in giving out info on the race. Wait til the morning and that prat John Hindhaugh spoils it all by returning. Is the station for our benefit or for him and his cronies to tell non amusing tales about who they have been sucking up to, tossers.

Quote If I remember correctly we have had the RLM team out at the Golden Triangle for at least the last 2 years. Can`t tell who from RLM was there but I know they have good contact with Tracy and Mark of the PC Pirates who previously worked with RLM. I know they still do the tour of the campgrounds but I can`t really say if there is more or less contact with the fans than in previous years. But whether better or worse LeMans would not be for me what it is if it were not for RLM. The race is not my only reason that I make the journey to LaSarthe ;D but it is nice to be able to flick on the radio and get an update as to what is happening a few meters from us as we are "lounging" in Smokies swimming pool. I think one problem that RLM has that may limit their coverage is lack of sponsers, maybe they just don`t have enough of them or one who is willing to put up lot`s of cash. Don't get me wrong. RLM makes a BIG difference. It used to be really difficult to keep track of the race. Now you an just turn on the Radio and find out. If you listen these days it there is a lot of "We just had this question via Email" OK may be they did go to to MB. But, It was sort of a big thing to do the Campsite tours on Friday after the Debate. It kinda made RLM one of the other groups that go to LM. To me it's all part of the progress that is detatching the enthusiast. Time was you could walk around the paddock on the Wed, Thurs and Fri. There wasn't all the Debris fencing. You could have drink in the Cafe at Hunaudiers and see the cars at full chat. RLM is the one thing thats been an improvement. I just see it is now starting to detach from the enthusiasts at the circuit. Going to only MB does not fit the bill IMHO. I mean who would condone this forum closing it's doors on those that don't camp in MB? t. Title: Re: Radio Le Mans Debate Post by: gibberish on March 01, 2006, 05:53:17 pm I have limited experience of RLM, but we did listen a fair bit last year. Saturday morning there was commentry on the legends race, and there was much chat about Sir Stirling Moss waiting in the pits lane in his old blu overalls with goggles dashingly flung backwards around his neck, and then he was in and racing.
Well there we were sitting in the tent, and one of the commentators says that moss has just spun. So in jumps this really posh sounding chap (I should know his name, but dont) with the fantastic line: "S Moss,,, has spun!!!? How ghaaaastly.............." We all nearly fell of our seats. Pissed myself for quite a bit after that. RLM might not be what it once was, but it's the only real way of keeping up with what is going on. Just an opinion............. |
