Title: Turn 10- the Movie
Post by: suthvid on March 11, 2006, 05:25:31 am: Many of you have seen bits and pieces of my Turn 10 video project in the past, and I've just created a new page on my site where I've posted the latest version. I'll update it as the project continues, but this is it till sometime after this year's race. There's lots more to come...

Looking forward to seeing you. I know you don't have hi-speed (although the movie will download eventually...) I'l try and bring a few DVDs.I was giving my client a hard time today about moving their event up to the 18th (although no mention of my REAL motive!), I may be forced to begging them not to do it again next year. Its really killing me not to ba able to get there Thursday or Friday. Oh well, an evening at Sebring is better than most days elsewhere, right?

I have release forms I can email for you to sign, unless of course you don't want to be seen hanging around the likes of all those turn 10 folks, like you all told your families you'd be attending a medical conference in Atlanta as it was required by your employer so naturally you couldn't visit the in-laws that weekend...

Smokie, I think you will have a small speaking role in a later version of the video, and I interviewed another CA person (? - I need to check my notes) at PLM. I found the Club Arnage connection to be one more example of the "wide area network" that happens with racing in general and Turn 10 specifically. Pretty damn cool.

For those of you that haven't heard how this all got started.... essentially I wandered into the Turn 10 camp at Randy's invitation intending to shoot some wonderful race cars and hang out for the day, but what I found was a great story, that as a filmmaker and race fan I feel compelled to tell. I am a passionate road racing fan, and as you can probably tell from what you've seen already, this is not a "60 Minute" expose' on the dirty under belly of american sports car racing. I'm sure the finished version will be somethiing that we can all be proud of and I really appreciate all the encouragement and support you all have given.

In the box I'm sending Jupiter John, I'll include a bunch of release forms. I also need to get those drivers too, so Lee if you know how to contact them I have to at least give that a try. Do any Turn 10 folk have a video iPod? I could make a pod movie and we could show the drivers what we were using it for, or maybe hand them a DVD. Race weekend may be kind of busy for those guys, although they usually sign autographs. hmmm.... naw, that wouldn't be right!

Obviuosly the most critical drivers are those for Team Impala. I think they're giving free rides in the car again this year, maybe we can strap a lipstick cam on the front wing element and get a flying lap around Sebring.

I am leaving on Monday night but so late it will be virtually Tuesday. I would offer to race you but my road is longer than yours ::)
It is a bloody endurance race just to get there ;D

Chris, not yet. What you'll see on my site is just a work in progress, there's still more to come, and even edits to what I'm showing now. Topics: great access to cars & drivers/Shane Lewis/history/favorite cars, and more. Louie is going to shoot some video for me this week, and I'm always on the lookout for more stills. Lee has been great about providing some of his awesome shots, and there will be more of that too. But if any of you have stills that you took (and own) I'd be interested. Are you coming to Sebring?

I might need some Arnage campsite (Sebring) shots as well, just depends on what I use from various interviews. Shots of you with a driver would be useful, as I'm definitely going to talk about the access that we all enjoy with the ALMS, and Chris, you spoke about getting invited into the Aston trailer...

Steve, you have some very nice shots there, and I'll go through them and make some notes next time I get a chance to work on the video, which will be in a couple of weeks.

Anybody have any old old shots? Like of Andretti or Elford or that era? They would not have to be at Sebring, again, the main thing is finding shots that have clear ownership as to avoid rights issues, or paying an arm and a leg for. Lee has provided some great shots his dad took in the late 50's but I could use anything the 60's on up. I've found some great shots on line of the triumph teams at Sebring, but finding and getting permission would be next to impossible.. Do you UK guys have anything in your dad's album?

Cheers, that works, very nice photos especially the Spyker jacket. The boots look new? hopefully they have been broken in, otherwise i can see you being an early causality. I can still hear the instructor "lance that boil" and "only another four miles and you'll be off Pen-y-Fan", in march, rain, and very little viz, oh yes soaked to the skin and warm!!!

And yes, the boots are new and pain is expected. :(

Assuming you've watched it to the end, the Quicktime file will have downloaded to your Temporary Internet Files folder (if using MS Windows).
In Windows this is a hidden folder. You just need to unhide folders, find the folder, dig out the file and copy it to a normal folder. The file name is 3.6.1 CINE.mov (http://3.6.1 CINE.mov)

That's the earliest version of this project, and there's some fun stuff in there. I had to abandon that version long term because of the music. Its PERFECT, but if I ever put it on a DVD somebody would come and take my house away...
