Title: Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 05, 2003, 02:39:01 pm Just spoken to Brittany ferries about Tuesday strikes.
They are not in a position to say what will be running untill Tuesday morning. Last Tuesday the Pompey/Caen 2230 was the only one to get away, and if the strike goes ahead it is probable that all the daytime sailings will be scrapped, overnighters might run. They have teams contacting people who have booked by phone if ferries cancelled, and will know more at 9am Tuesday. I thought everything was going to smoothly this year!!!!! ;D >:( ;D >:( ;D >:( Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: smokie on June 05, 2003, 08:55:42 pm Glad I'm going on SUNDAY then ;D ;D ;D ;D

PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: smokie on June 07, 2003, 10:31:54 pm I don't know the answer, but if the night ones are already full how could they get both on?
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 07, 2003, 10:38:19 pm Yeah thats what I mean.Do the morning ones get forst chance of the night one and then the night ones put off till the next day.Not sure how they could work it out.spose its not too bad if none of the ferries are full but at this time of year you can hardly get a pushbike on any of them.
PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: smokie on June 07, 2003, 10:46:05 pm Maybe they've got spares...
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 08, 2003, 02:18:34 pm The girl at Brit ferries said that if nothing went Tues, they would get everybody over on Wednesday, I pointed out that all the ferries were fairly fully booked, she said they would manage somehow.
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Jeffa on June 08, 2003, 11:09:50 pm Dont they normally hold the wagons back and get as many cars on as they can?
Or is this just wishfull thinking. Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 08, 2003, 11:12:56 pm Not sure as they make a lot of money from haulage,
I'm on a bike , if they want to ditch a lifeboat and hang it from the davits thay's OK by me. Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: rcutler on June 08, 2003, 11:13:06 pm They better let the cars and vans on as I have spent nearly 500GBP getting my motorhome on this route and day especially to save us driving time and stress for the rest of the journey!
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 08, 2003, 11:14:32 pm Same here RC.ferry ticket was £530 for our motorhome,wed night 10.30 Ports-Caen
PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Gilles on June 08, 2003, 11:18:07 pm Was the Shuttle too much expensive that you always use ferries and not the tunnel?
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Simon (WRC GT4) on June 08, 2003, 11:21:47 pm I was quoted £605 to take a motorhome from Portmouth to LeHarve.
But only £268 from Portsmouth to Cherbourg...... ??? ??? ??? Both are wednesday night crossings You can guess which one i'm on :D Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 08, 2003, 11:22:20 pm Only used the shuttle twice and got badly delayed both times, not the magic it's advertised as, in my experience.
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 08, 2003, 11:23:39 pm Gilles,
Tunnel is too far for us.plus the Motorhome runs on LPG so not allowed in tunnel PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 08, 2003, 11:27:03 pm Powermite , I know its late, but I thought you were booked for Tues night , not Wednesday?
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Mark 2006 Lemons Gang on June 08, 2003, 11:28:17 pm All IMHO...
I suspect those booked on the overnight crossing get first refusal :) I also don't think they can refuse haulage as a lot of it would be perishable and they do make a lot of money that way and wouldn't want to p1$$ them off. I also think when the BF girl said that "they'd fit them on some how" she was giving it the standard spiel unaware just how full the others would be and hence talking out of some other hole. Hopefully everything will be running fine and we'll all get across. See you there PM & CP. Mark - I hope if it's raining ( v.likely :( ) at Pompei like last year the nice BF folk wave me straight on :) Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 08, 2003, 11:32:37 pm Sorry,Tuesday night it is!!!
PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 08, 2003, 11:33:34 pm See you in the bar then :) :) :)
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Mark 2006 Lemons Gang on June 08, 2003, 11:45:04 pm WRC GT4
Nice pic ;D I think the prices also change a lot depending on the operator. BF is more expensive than P&O (for some reason...) ??? Mark Two Thousand And Three Lemons Gang Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Andy on June 09, 2003, 12:43:10 am Im in a 50/50 on the seacat weds.
I agree with Barry, as i am on a bike, they can make room in a motorhome or caravan to get me there. bloody ferry co's have us over a barrel already. £120 - £180 for a motorbike. 3rd price of motorhome PM!! I'm revved up now!! Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Andyc33 on June 09, 2003, 02:27:05 pm From P & O website:
Due to strike action by the Cherbourg Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday 10th June, the 0715 Portsmouth to Cherbourg and the 1200 Cherbourg to Portsmouth fastcraft sailings have been cancelled. For further information please telephone 08705 20 20 20. The scheduled 1630 hours arrival from Bilbao(10/6)is now due at 1715 hours. All other sailings are running to schedule. Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Rhino on June 09, 2003, 03:21:20 pm Thats got to be worrying for some
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: The Planman on June 09, 2003, 03:55:45 pm If it helps - the port of St Malo seems unaffected by this stirke action - Doesn't a Brittany Ferries overnighter leave from Portsmouth to St Malo?
We leave Wednesday, all-be-it from Jersey to St Malo, and I've just checked with our ferry company and they are sailing happy as Larry today and tomorrow! :D This info incase a plan C needs to be looked into ;) Best of luck any way!! Planman Team Crapaud Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Barry on June 09, 2003, 05:51:59 pm Thanks for that info Planman, could prove to be usefull, now where's my map book.
Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 09, 2003, 06:42:09 pm Spoken to Brittany ferries and they said that at the moment all ferries were still running tomorrow.I asked ,if the day ferry was cancelled, what would happen to the night passengers. They told me that whichever ferry you are booked on will be the one you go on.If your ferry is cancelled, then they will offer a refund or try to find you another crossing, but those booked on the next ferry after the cancelled one will take preference.
Hope this helps PM Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: Mark 2006 Lemons Gang on June 09, 2003, 07:14:13 pm Thanks PM
That helps..... as long as they don't Can tomorrow nights one ... See you there, I guess you'll be with Can Phil ? Mark Two Thousand And Three Lemons Gang Title: Re:Tuesday ferries Post by: powermite on June 09, 2003, 08:59:44 pm Dont think tomorrow night will be cancelled as it arrives in France on wednesday, after the strike finishes
