Hugewally shared this with everyone on the alms fohttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1364173336824248734&q=porsche 917&pl=truerum.
How cool is that?
The Mulsane Straight ! Oh my freaking god ! ::) ::) ::) ::)
Can anyone tell me approx.speed on the Mulsane Straight?
-
Randy - that is a great video! Thanks for posting it.
What a magical era that was.
The un-molested Muslanne is truly terrifying isn't it?
-
In the days before the chicane the highest speed was over 250mph, I think the 917's 512 etc where in the 220mph region.
http://www.mulsannescorner.com/maxspeed.htm
gives the recorded speeds
-
Someone just told me that video is from the "In-Car 956" DVD.
-
Isn't the Mulsanne speed record held by a Peugeot?
Steve
-
A peugeot powered WM hit 405kph (251mph) in 1988 during the race.
The Sauber Merc was close behind in 89 getting up to 400kph (248mph) during practice
The in car 956 vid is well worth getting hold of. The lap of spa will have your heart in your mouth.
-
Very Good, Years since I have seen the old circuit in car videos
-
Lots of good vids on the website.... LM and others! :D
-
Yeah could well be from 'In Car 956' as that is definitely NOT a 917, despite the video title! Pretty sure that is 1983 as the (presumably) 956 passes a Cougar at the start of the Mulsanne and then it's the Emka-Aston that it gets under braking for Ford.
Top footage and it reminds me that I need to dig out the VHS, it is definitely worth it for Spa but don't forget that lap of the Nordschliefe too!! ;D

Yes they debated that on the sight I stole the clip from.
-
Don;t recall that as the In Car 956 video - in that one, Ickx passes Bell just after the Mulsanne corner, and then Bell follows him through the rest of the circuit..

Can someone locate that video?I would like to see it. ::)
-
You can buy the DVD from Duke Videos.

Just a note to say THANKS! That's just the most incredible video, what La Sarthe is really about. No big sandy run offs, no driver aids (anyone hear the Traction Control on the No 1 Aston last year...either that or it's rear SU carb needed turning back a flat or two!)....just huge amounts of power and a very fast road.b Awesome.
-
I remember Jan Lammers once describing Mulsanne Straight as a relaxing moment in the race because all you have to do is keep it straight and put your right foot down. Might have something to do with experience.
-
The link isn't working for me (they usually do), what am I doing wrong.
-
Which link Gary? The first one is http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1364173336824248734&q=porsche 917&pl=truerum which is working fine

Just watched the 'in car 956' Video and its as Mark says, and the camera postion is different and the footage is different.
-
Thank for the link Smokie.
Well worth watching, I didn't realise it took so long to drive Mulsanne, even at those speeds.
-
briliant. ;D
Why Oh Why did they have to make changes to the circuit? ??? ???

Maybe the video and DVD are different, it's definitely off the DVD. On the DVD version there are two laps, the first which is as the clip, then on the second lap there is a commentary, and that is the lap where Ickx passes after the Mulsanne straight.
Great DVD, the Nordschleife if particularly entertaining! ;)

A lap in a Macca F1 from the mid 90s
-
Just watched it again.
I have wood !
-
Some brilliant videos on there.
Why does June seem so far away right now?
-
Just downloaded the clip and burnt it onto DVD
Can't stop playing it
-
Not wishing to appear thick, but how do you download the videos from that site? ???
-
Ah, I downloaded it to HD from
Somewhere else :-X
-
Next time I hear a driver complaining about a bumpy track, or no grip from his tires, I will remember that footage of Fangio. That 4 wheel drift towards the end, awesome ;D

Brabham vs Rindt Monaco 1970.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bmiDt_0Bi4&mode=related&search=jochen%20rindt
A tribute to Rindt .
Makes today F1 look very tame, but a fair bit safer.
-
Great stuff, but as you say, a whole lot safer now. Armco that looks like tinfoil, and those photographers certainly earned their money standing at the apex with only a kerb between them and the cars.
-
Some nice stuff there, had never seen the '69 Monaco footage before, pretty hilarious, the starter is looking for Brabham to come past to wave the flag, and misses winner Rindt altogether.
A lot of the footage from the tribute film is from the Duke videos, Nine Days in Summer and their 1970 Uncrowned Champion season review.
