Title: North American visitors to Le Mans - any requests?
Post by: Steve Pyro on May 02, 2006, 10:46:24 pm
It would appear that there will be a good US CA invasion to Le Mans this year.

It's pointless you dragging un-necessary gear over here if it can be arranged by any of us European CA'ers.

Therefore, I've raised this thread as a sort of "who can provide" / "I can provide Swap Shop.

So, Team Impala (Randy, Mike, Gregg); YFDS (Chop, Hardpoint etc); Canada Phil; Fax, Matt and Dave; JohnnySpa or anyone else I've overlooked - if you have any gear problems or concerns, post them up and maybe someone can match up and help out.

I think we can all offer general hospitality .....for the newbies/oldies  from across the pond!!!!

If you all want to congregate on the same pitch  I can offer  an 8 man tent which is going spare this year as we are all using pup tents.

We have a couple of small Gaz stoves and cooking utensiles fold up chairs, table ect - am restricted on transport though but happy to put them into a pool of kit. Maybe somebody with carry space (i.e. a van for their own kit) should be a single point contact to co- ordinate whats avalible other wise you'll end up with 16 chairs and no tents! Perhaps the Planning meeting could be a revendos point for contributions.

I have a spare tent, roll mat, and you guys are welcome to pitch up with the main Platinum Triangle Ca'ers. I also have a spare stove but I am sure it is easier if you just join up with other CA'ers for Dinners etc. Welcome at ours certainly.

Tent is a coleman 3 man would suit one with luggage possibly two, Used it at Le Mans several times and has held out the water in 1998 and 2001!

We have loads of kit that we are already taking down, let me know of anything you need and I am sure we can put something together.

Don't forget swimwear as I will have the pool that is also at your disposal should it be as hot as last year.

Man, you all are excelent!! Your offers of hospitality is awsome. 8)
I can't wait to put faces to some of the personalities on this forum.  (Some I have already met)

I do have one request. Can we have a roll call of North Americans making the trip over, and where they
are camping/staying? How many times at Le Mans and where from ?  Have you ever been to Turn Ten?

I mean no offense to the Europeans, just curious if we have met or soon to. :)  Thanks

Good idea...I've already pm'd Pieter to say we've got:

3 x self inflating roll mat
1 x sleeping bag
1 x 5 man tent - has two "rooms" and will sleep 1 in each room with space to spare, has full head height in the bedroom so no stooping!!  It's tried and tested in bad weather!

We've also got lots of crockery etc.  Do I gather from Pieter's other posts the plan is for our trans-atlantic guests to experience (!!!) the hospitality of the DfH boys?  so it will just be a case of sorting "beds"?

I can't wait and I can't believe that we're nearly in the last month countdown - it must almost be time for a chart for my desk  ;D

Our group for Le Mans consists of:

Me* - Wisconsin
Flobee1kenobi* - Ohio
Hardpoint* - Ohio
Warlock* - Ohio
xSander* - Holland (Not in North America, or so I'm told).
Jack - Wisconsin
Dirtyboy - California
Mrs. Dirtyboy - California
Dirtyboy's friend - California

Possibly one pasty Norweigan, too.  ;D

* Denotes YFDS member.

We're staying on Karting Nord, starting Thursday afternoon.  This will be everyone's first trip to Le Mans except our Norweigan friend, if he shows up.

I think our friend Sander has most of our unflyables covered, so we look to be in good shape.  Thanks for the offer - you guys are the mufuggin' bomb!  ;)

I looked into renting one for a week early last year, and from the Rotterdam area to Le Mans and back for a week it was about €600,-
Excluding petrol and road tolls that is :-[

Just the saturday/sunday of the race weekend.

I was already booked for the World Cup when I realized that I could also attend Le Mans on the trip. Thus I will be completely unprepared for camping/sleeping/eating – I’ll however be ready for drinking.

As this grows it seems more and more like SEBRING ;D. Thank you all for the offer of camping gear, tent, bed rolls etc. Now really is the hard part--really trying to narrow things down. I know it always works itself out.

I thought maybe that large tent (8 man) could house us TT (Turn 10) blokes all in one, that way if we've made total asses of ourselves the authorities only have to come to one place. :o

Amsterdam? Now I'm envious. It sounds like you guy are in for really big fun. Something tells me the anticipation levels are going to hit warp drive very soon. A problem everyone should have to deal with at least once.

Speaking of sleeping on terra firma, I had the idea years ago to try a bare bones, no frills Lemans trip. Something along the lines of fying into Paris with nothing more than a cooler and hitch hiking from the airport to the track and back. That thought came to me 10 years ago and still has some intrigue. What's the chance of someone hitch hiking to and from the track without showing up on some militants web site with a gag and blindfold? If it's not possible, what the lightest way to do Lemans in a reasonable fashion?

Back to dirt, I highly recommend the ditches ar Road Atlanta for quality sleep. Nothing like it that I've found. A firm foundatoin and very few fire ants or pedestrians to deal with.

Hey guys, sounds like your been spoilt by nice comfy dirt, the dirt on MB is pretty hard, a thin layer of soil and then rocks (seems that way when your trying to get tent pegs in!) so I reckon that you need to get some cushioning between you and the hard stuff.  I have a spare camp bed (also usefully elevated if it rains and the tent leaks!) that I can bring over (about all I can in the MG) you are welcome to it if needs (can also provide a sleeping bag if needed).

Hi Atc

The tent is yours for the weekend.Just send me a PM to confirm  and I will bring it over.

the tent has 4 X double sleeping compartments with a central lounge area 9' x 22' long so if you want to get extra bodies in ,there is space for an  6 - 8 extra bodies if required.

For those of you who want to make space for our guests the tent is 24' X 24' overall.

This year the"Shed" has been retired for the trip and I will be bringing "Dennis Ducato" so if anybody wants gear transported that they do not have space for I will possibly have extra capacity to bring it down.

Bicycle Repair Man was a scit by Monty Python in the early years.
No offense intended,I do some mowing and landscaping on the weekends for
extra cash.

At the Sebring fall event in October.I would bring my weed wacker. The track would not mow for such a small event. At first everyone thought I was an idiot, then once I was done and we were not walking through knee high grass. They all wanted to use it. ;D

Budweiser is not beer, it does not even come in close proximity to beer!

Tsk Tsk

I'd take Buddies over some of the dumpy shite I see folks building into beer-amids every year.  Kanterbrau!  Export 33!  Utter naff.  I'll take Budschmeizer every time (if we're out of the "black stuff" that is).

Hey Randy!

Sadly Matt is landlocked this year, but I'll be there.  I'm heading to Europe for work this coming week and back in Indy next Friday - then head out with the Mrs and crumb snatchers the following Tuesday into Paris.  Thunder down to my folks house about an hour south of the circuit that Wednesday and then I'll head to the track on Friday and meet up with the rest of our crew in Houx.  Bit of trans-atlantic back and forth, but all in the front so a bit more tolerable.  Will be staying in France after the race for another week - still trying to work out if we need to stay a little longer for a spot more work too.   It'll all work out.

I'll be with about 14 folks from the UK - all missing Matt and Fax - but certainly intent on necking their Guinness and Champers allocations.

When do you get in?  Where will you be camping?  Does your cell work in France?  If so, PM or email me and we can exchange numbers to ensure a meet-up.

Looking forward to seeing you over there - and of course at the Petit in the Fall.

Hope you realize you're getting into something that is just as addictive as the US circuit - but a little more "out of the way" and $$$$$$$.

Cheers!

Sorry about this guys, but i really think the moderator should step in here, helping with ESSENTIAL camping items is fine BUT PILLOWS for god sake.  CA will be the laughing stock.  Can you take this discussion off-line or onto one of those Nancy Yankee forum's like Sebring Fan.
