Title: Legality of using B2 GPS detector in France

Quick question. I know that radar/laser detectors are illegal to even have in the car in France, but what about GPS based systems? The unit I use is an Origin B2.

Are they legal to use if you disconnect and remove the 'active' laser detection part? Just asking, as the GPS speedo is useful to have! A little more accurate than the standard dials.

You are probably ok with the GPS system, but if push came to shove, my French wouldn't be good enough to convince the nice man from the CRS on the finer points of the French legal system.

Only true for a fixed camera. Radar traps are another matter.

Cheers for the replies! I rang Origin, and they confirmed that the French police would 'frown' upon the B2 :(, so it stays at home!!

Post by: Baloo on June 07, 2006, 05:00:53 pm: I have always been led to believe that they take a very, very dim view of any sort of radar/speed detection device.. big fine and they destroy it there and then, even if it was turned off.. good idea to leave it at home I reckon.
