...are becoming more common in France: see http://www.radarsfixes.com/ . French coppers sometimes have a patrol car monitoring the camera, so a UK numberplate doesn't always make you immune. As a rule, more than 50kmh over the limit means instant ban and big cash fines (eg 750 Euros). They like to target Brits heading to Le Mans - the roundabouts at Broglie, about 2 hours north of the circuit, are a favourite spot.

I seem to recall another thread on this but not sure of the outcome: are radar detectors (i.e. Snooper) legal in France?

As an amusing addition to this....
KeithK has stayed out in Le Mans after testing, he texted me to say that he just got stopped for speeding, doing 46 in a 40kph zone..........on a cycle path on his bicycle!!!!
So be careful out there!!
