Eeks,
Is there a water shortage over there as well? :o
Or is it that they are not partial to zee Eenglish H20 .....so we'll  have to fill them over there (with Evian!)? ::)
...
Next they'll insist on bunk beds to save place...now there's a thought ;D
Looking forward to seeing La Manche tomorrow 8)

Just spoken to Smokie on site and it is indeed true. he was fillingb hsi when told not to. Apparently Police Helicopters are flying over France (not just Le mans or the circuit) taking photos of anyone flouting the law!

I guess a cold shower off the standpipe will be in order instead!

seems bizarre, apart from the 35sq metre limit per ticket don't remember anything about pools.

Team JPC should be okay as Mark has a receipt for 40 MB tickets, which will be 40 x 35 = 1400sq mtrs.

Paddy is in a similar situation.

Looks like the ACO crack down.  I wonder if the ACO will attempt to mark out the 7 x 5 pitches again this year on MB, oh dear.

So it's a proper French ban then not just the ACO being c**ts. I suspect it's a little harder to flout French law with the weight of the police behind it.

What a bunch of arse. Might as well watch it at home where there's cold beer, ample water for swimming pools and a comfortable bed and save myself a few hundred quid next year.

I'm in a bad mood now, I hope France get dicked by Switzerland tomorrow  >:(

I think we need a bit of lateral thinking applied to this problem.

Ok, so the flying water police are using helicopters to spot offenders from the air. I suggest somebody fills up their pool under the cover of a small marquee, where it can't be seen by either the ACO or the police. An indoor swimming pool if you like.

Now I know somebody's got a marquee measuring 9mx9m, and he'll be on MB later today if he gets his alternator fixed...

Then you could roll up some of the sides etc. so you would not be seen still from the air but would have some air.

And what happens when some envious bastard grasses you up (not me incidentally - I too would like to use JPC's pool)

What's the reason for the ban ? Did they say why the pools are banned ?

At what ? or am I missing somthing?
Ok got it, well if it's official, then it it's official and we need to respect it (although still pi**ed off), I guess its logical to expect that they have had the same dry winter and have the same low reserves that we have. Shame.  :'(

From the site:

Water restrictions apply
In order to preserve the water reserves and apply the water restrictions currently in force, the use of temporary swimming pools will be forbidden during the week of the ’24 Heures du Mans’ on all of the sites and camping areas dedicated to the event. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Can any of you more 'legal' types explain what :-

means.
I know some of us might be slightly dense but where do you feel that the line might be drawn. :-\
We frugal tax chappies have a GT go faster paddling pool (none of the sly comments please!) which could IN NO WAY  be described as a SWIMMING pool!

Do you think it's worth a try??? :-[, if only for the feet!

At least the beer will be cold......or have they got another 'cunning' plan?

Cheers All.....mine's a pint!

I'm not at all leagal.  :-)

I would take the view.    It will only cost €1000 to find out if your pool/water container violates the Law.

I think this is an official site.  But the pdf is in French and I don't read french.

http://www.ecologie.gouv.fr/article.php3?id_article=4217

I think Le mans is Dept 72 which does not appear to be on the List.

G(&)T's all round is it?
We'll show'em, anyway...... :D

you could beat those dastardly frenchies by erecting a gazebo over your pool then those pesky bears in the air could not see it. And if you wanna beat those ground dwelling pool spotters get yerself a gazebo with walls and feed the hosepipe under the flap to fill it up.

i thank you

We have had one of the dryest winters on record.  French farmers are struggling with their crops as a result. Some of you may not have much time for the natives of this country but if you respect hose-pipe bans at home then please do the same for us.  I know it's a bore but there is a real reason for this.

Who fancies going into Mr Bricolage for the materials to construct a permanent one ;D

Fully understood. There are worse things in life than not having a pool in Le Mans.

We are taking the paddling pool from last year, which ios smal;l;er than a bath and once filled, isnt changed.

I can see the problem and we dont pay for the water in france..

Although i keep saying. Middle Eastern countries dont have these issues, its just water companied being shisters instead of putting in new technology. Its out there.

Small 3x3m gazebo added now as shade / cover....

Spot on Phil, think we just need to find other ways of keeping cool, also bringing an old metal framed Gazebo, quite sturdy so if it does rain hard will provide addtional shelter.

So,.......all plans have to be altered....
How much inner beer would equate to the cooling effect of a 'pool??
Any suggestions?
 :-[ ;D
By the way I have just returned from 'extricating' son from Uni for the summer (circa 400miles). Weather..... T storms so standard of other drivers XXXXXXbad!
Just managed to survive the experience.
Will have another few miles to do before the ferry so NO chance of a cooling beer now,    but just anticipating Le Mans first!!!

Anticipating seeing you all there!...and lifting a few.

I think you have all missed a trick here why not just fill the pools with lager???

Title: Re: swimming pools
Post by: SmithA on June 13, 2006, 04:36:02 pm
Now that is what i call lateral thinking, you could then add ice for a cooling effect

hmmm you would then have to drink the beer before it gets to watered down

Lets be honest it's probably safer than drinking the water. Anyway I dont care cause there no hosepipe ban in my backyard so i'll have a pool with water

We are not to worried as our residence has showers and baths a plenty but i can imagine the dissappointment of the people camping

I have to admit the last couple of years the pools have been a god send and I suspect rescued a few people from the effects of heat exhaustion and sun stroke but hey ho if theres no water then thats that i suppose

 >:( Just surfed in here to see if the ban applies to swimmingpools only, or little paddling pools as well.... and it seems that even a tiny paddling pool is going to be a problem  :(

I understand they don't want people wasting thousends of liters of water for just a few days cooling down in large temporary swimmingpools. But if you're allowed to take a bath indoors, why not take a bath outdoors?  ???

Maybe I can use my paddling pool as a basis for the shower we have at DfH, then people can take lots of showers, and offcourse we will be way to lazy to throw the water away afterwards ;D

Hi ho Petra, hopefully the water police won't be turning down the pressure in the shower blocks - otherwise we'll all go back home stinking.  Hang on ........... no change there then!

If I read this correctly, the ban is only imposed on the grounds dedicated to the 24 hours of Le Mans, because otherwise they will not be able to stay within certain limits during the week of the 24 hours race. This is something I can understand, but then ofcourse a paddling pool should be no problem. Let's just hope it's going to work out so that small paddling pools intended for use by children are going to be allowed.
