I suppose you could say his brain's been tortured for some time now, just took a few years for the body to catch up and put him out of his misery.

A sad end to a troubled mind.  A surprise that he didn't go out in a blinding flash 30 years ago like so many of his contemporaries in the 60's / 70's - Moon, Hendrix, Joplin etc.
