Title: The Beast Is Dead Post by: jpchenet on August 06, 2006, 03:14:07 am Hi All, long time no post. New contract has me working my wotsits off!! Still, hopefully it will pay for the March trip to visit our Turn 10 friends (nearly an expensive mention of the "S" word there!!)
Anyway, to sadder news!! As a few of you who have visited me at JPC Estates, particularly those who have attended the Hatch Warren Beer Festival over the last couple of years, will know I don't live in a particularly troublesome part of the world. However there appear to be a certan element that enjoy vandalising other people's property. It wasn't convenient to park it round at Gazza's any more, so to this end, "The Beast", our beloved Team JPC decored Transit Van, was temprarily parked at the local community centre car park (where the beer festival takes place), where it suffered a broken window at the weekend. Having covered it with a tarp' on Sunday, I got a call on Wednesday to say that the tarp' had been removed and another side window, plus the main windscren had been smashed. Don't you just love kids!!! :( Then to top it all, a phone call from the Fire Brigade on Thursday morning to tell me it was now a burnt out wreck and a write off as the little darlings had torched it. Now I know it wasn't he best looking van in the world ( i.e. hand pained in Hammerite etc) but althoug it was 20 years old it only had agenuine 30,000 miles on the clock and having changed the alternator and belt after the break down on the way to the ferry this year she was running like a dream!! The Beast will be sorely missed, but hopefully we will find an alternative form of transport to get us to Le Mans in 2007!! Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: DelBoy on August 06, 2006, 10:41:12 am RIP The Beast. :'( :'( :'( Pity you can't say the same about the lowlife that do this sort of thing. Anyway, Mark, I'm sure The Beast MkII will arise from the ashes. Sounds like you are coming to Donington now - last I heard you were iffy. When do you arrive and where are you staying?? Del Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Snoring Rhino on August 06, 2006, 11:06:06 am Little gits, bring back National Service and public flogging, just no respect.
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: jpchenet on August 06, 2006, 11:29:50 am Looks like Donnington is a goer, but with work the way it is I still can't 100% commit. In fcat it probably won't be until the last day that I can finally say yes, but it is looking OK.
Haven't done anything about booking tickets or camping yet but I'm sure I can slot in somewhere. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Steve Pyro on August 06, 2006, 06:44:28 pm Sad to hear about the local clientele at the "community" centre Mark.
Now there's no excuse not to buy a Commer :o Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: hgb on August 06, 2006, 09:30:10 pm Sorry to hear this, Mark. What are those people up to ? I'll never get this.
Despite your working effort I very much hope we'll share a beer with you at Donington. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Bob U on August 07, 2006, 09:40:49 am The sad thing about this instance is, as it happened at the community centre the little bastards knew it belonged to you and you have most likely spoken to them on a number of occasions. It's the fact that they will proberbly be sniggering behind your back that would be the hardest to take for me.
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Stu on August 07, 2006, 10:01:40 am Sad news indeed Mark. Wish people like that would set alight to themselves.
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: smokie on August 07, 2006, 10:05:42 am Wish people like that would set alight to themselves. God, some people!! Always trying to get more work for themselves... ;D Mark - sad news indeed - presumably it was insured?? Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Ferrari Spider on August 07, 2006, 10:09:40 am Wish people like that would set alight to themselves. God, some people!! Always trying to get more work for themselves... ;D Mark - sad news indeed - presumably it was insured?? hopefully the CCTV was working as well. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Robspot on August 07, 2006, 11:08:03 am I say we buy a cheap transit with blacked out windows and hide several large members of CA in the back complete with viewing holes and night vision goggles. We then strategically place several support cars in the surrounding roads and when the little bastards attempt some form of vandalism we burst out of the van and
Just an idea ;) Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Stu on August 07, 2006, 11:32:14 am God, some people!! Always trying to get more work for themselves... ;D Got to keep the wolf from the door Smokie. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Andy Zarse on August 07, 2006, 11:39:08 am >:( :( "Sub-human scum", as Alan Partridge put it after the kids had written "cock piss partridge" on the side of his Rover 800 (and which he changed to cook pass babtridge).
Commiserations to Mark and the JPC boys from all at Team Zarse, including the Commer who incidentally is really very angry about all this and has laid a curse upon the perpetrators who's days on this earth are surely now numbered. As Steve said, you need to get a Commer next Mark, you know it makes sense. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: jpchenet on August 07, 2006, 04:15:15 pm Wish people like that would set alight to themselves. God, some people!! Always trying to get more work for themselves... ;D Mark - sad news indeed - presumably it was insured?? Fortunately yes, but where are we going to find another 20 year old van with only 30,000 (genuine) miles on the clock. I bet I'm in for a "discussion" with Direct Line about their perceived value compared to mine!! Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: jpchenet on August 07, 2006, 04:16:41 pm Wish people like that would set alight to themselves. God, some people!! Always trying to get more work for themselves... ;D Mark - sad news indeed - presumably it was insured?? hopefully the CCTV was working as well. The CCTV footage is being reviewed by the local constabulary this afternoon, but it was at the end fo the car park so probably too far away to get anything apart from a blur. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: amazing 1 on August 07, 2006, 06:22:13 pm Sorry to hear about the Beast.I hope they can at least figure who it was.Maybe then you could at least make life more miserable for thier parents.
I am quite certain that some other form of transport will come your way. Things have a way of working themselves out. Remember the Pope Mobile is for sale. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: RS2 Babe on August 07, 2006, 07:51:25 pm :-* :-* :-*
Hi Mark I'm sorry about the van :'( - you should have got it to the safety of Jersey or France sooner! Lisa :-* Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: il Cavallino on August 10, 2006, 02:14:52 pm Hey Mark,
As I said on the DfH-forum, really sucks what they did. :o I saw you are worried about the insurance's valuation of the beast. So I thought, let's have a look on the net. Maybe you should ask the people on http://fordtransit.org/forum/ to back your story when upping the price. They can probably hook you up with a new transit 1 too. If that's possible you might be able to convince the insurance company to do a rebuy. So they pay for replacement. My insurance does that. At least for the lens I broke at the LMS Spa race. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Stranger on August 10, 2006, 02:54:14 pm Insurance companies, especially the departments that do car-damages, look at lists with value of cars per day or even worse, check autotrading websites. So if you get a few hundred pounds back (as they are on the net for prices between 300-600 pounds for cars in decent condition) you are probably "lucky".
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Stranger on August 10, 2006, 03:28:37 pm Link to Transit on ebay, restoration project...but you want to change it completely anyways right? Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: mgmark on August 10, 2006, 03:37:49 pm Mark - bad news indeed - a sad loss to the motoring world - with the thrashing that they generally got as working vehicles a 30k one is hard to find. Hope that the CCTV foootage wasn't too grainy and that you can exact some form of revenge - just remember that dish is best served cold when they are least expecting it!
MG Mark Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Bobblehat on August 10, 2006, 05:41:36 pm Bad luck Mark. What a sensless act, I hope they catch the scum. Makes me.......... >:(
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: jupiterjohn on August 10, 2006, 07:00:20 pm I loved that van. Used to have one very similar to it. Sorry about your loss Mark. :'( :'( :'(
Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Lawnmower Man on August 12, 2006, 10:05:25 pm Sorry to read this thread Mark.
Why on earth do they do that sort of thing. I know I like to destroy the odd thing or two but atleast it's my stuff I destroy. t. Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Lorry on August 13, 2006, 02:39:58 pm Sorry to here the bad news, what a bunch of b@st@rds.
I remember seeing it last year en route on the M3, and thinking that after all the preparation etc we're finally getting there/this must be the right week etc Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Perdu on August 13, 2006, 03:24:35 pm Mark, sorry about the van, even though I never met it!
If you find out who dunnit I will happily come along to engage myself in separating their arms from shoulders so they never do it again. >:( Hope you can find a suitable replacement. bill Title: Re: The Beast Is Dead Post by: Paddy_NL on August 13, 2006, 11:57:07 pm Looks like Donnington is a goer, but with work the way it is I still can't 100% commit. In fcat it probably won't be until the last day that I can finally say yes, but it is looking OK. That would be great. Just come back from Italy, and I bought two nice items for you at the PX ;)Quote Haven't done anything about booking tickets or camping yet but I'm sure I can slot in somewhere. We're having two cnx at the moment, so plenty of space with us... |
