I'm just back from 4 days at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Photo opportunities were somewhat curtailed by my daughter, who thinks that surreptitious arse photography is well out of order...  ::) ::) ... political correctness gone mad if you ask me!!  ;D

Del -I would say that the average age at the festival was more 30++ than younger I would say. Plenty of scope for photos of older saggier arses. But I don't have wide angle on my camera...

Rick - if that's the same festival that I was at then I missed a lot! But I don't think it was...

Mind you, there were three family rooms opposite mine which contained a hen party from Glasgow - and they went out one night looking not unlike your pics. Well, they were dressed similarly but weren't all model shape...

There's me thinking that with a title like Minge at the Fringe it'a gotta be spam.

Smokie, I'm off to the Fringe tuesday night for 5 days. Any comedy shows that you would recommend (if you saw any)?

The only part of the world where you ask for a piece, and get given a slice of bread!!  (Apols to any of our Caledonian members).

Going again next year, are you, without daughter to keep you in check??

Big Names we saw were Bill Bailey (good but large impersonal venue), Rich Hall (average to good), Paul Merton & Chums Impro (excellent - remember Whose Line Is It Anyway?)). Also saw a BBC radio being recorded which was OK (at the Pleasance), Best of the Fest (pretty good), Lucy someone (good is a cute kind of way), AAA Stand Up (not too bad) and some other multi artist shows - varying quality. We pre-booked over £200 worth of tickets in three abnd a bit days, (4 shows one day!) and bought a couple more when we were there.

Also had a quick word with Dara O'Briain outside the Assembly - his show didn't start till this week - I'd love to have seen him.

Daugther enjoyed an a capello (sp?) group of 12 blokes - can't remember their name but they "advertised" on the RBS stands in the High St every so often - mornings. I went to the Hull University Big Band - only OK.

Some great street stuff going on in High St, watch for the little kid doing juggling etc - amazing how much front some kids have, performing in front of a large crowd. He had all the patter too.

Beer is a bit pricey, we stayed at the Travelodge at £110 a night but it was just round the corner from High St and incldued parking.


I may well go back again, maybe not next year though (and without daughter, who is already planning next year with pals). I last went 10 years ago and said it was something I'd like to do again. I didn't regret it, there is real atmosphere.

We've prebooked for Bill Bailey, London Underground, Lucy Porter (the cute one!), Russell Brand (the wife wants to see him), Rhod Gilbert, Craig Hill (?) and some weird Argentinian dance thing called Tango Fire.

Hope to pick up some tips for possible Perrier award nominees as well while we're there.

We were in Edinburgh for new year a couple of years ago and we absolutely love it.

I think that Perrirer have given up sponsoring,  But never mind, you will have a blast.

The travelodge has parking for which I was expecting to pay £10 pn but no charge :)

I also got a free breakfast for two on checkout day (£13) cos they never fixed the lack of cold water in the sink.

I am jealous....enjoy!!

Sure beats the hell out of Paul Daniels

Oh I don't know, I'd love to beat the hell out of Paul Daniels.

I tried google looking for a picture of Paul Daniels getting a kicking and came up with this.

 

With Jim back into the pitlane, Paul Daniels was given his opportunity to complete his daylight laps. “The idea was to get each driver into the race this evening,” explained Daniels. “David and Jim are more experienced than I am, and they've both driven here before, so they went out first to try and set a representative qualifying time, then I could have a couple of extra laps for the experience.”

Although his first few laps were a little wide of the mark, he soon seemed to settle into a rhythm, and by the end of his stint he'd set a succession of laps that threatened to break the psychological 4:30 barrier. “I expect pole to be around the 4:04 mark, perhaps even a little quicker, so I need to be setting a best of 4:28 , or better. I was getting close to that, and could have done with a couple more laps.”

According to his telemetry, there was one occasion when he looked certain to have achieved that target. “There seems to be an awful lot of traffic,” he observed. “I was even held up by a prototype coming through the Porsche Curves, and that effectively destroyed what might have been my best lap.” That may well be the quote to pass on to Paul's eight-month-old daughter Christine when she's a little older; that Daddy was held up by a prototype when he raced a Porsche for PK Sport

In the bowels of CA somewhere, maybe before your time on here, BigH wrote a hilarious skit about the Coronation Street sponsored Porsche 917 of Tatlock/Sharples/Fairclough and how Albert Tatlock's pole position qualifying lap in the wet is still spoken about in reverential tones. And someone else like Dame Vera Lynn crashing her lightweight E Type Jag at Tertre Rouge. Anyway, it was probably one of the funniest things I've ever read in my life.

I can't see the video on my laptop (probably a codecs problem) but I bet it's the same female magician I saw once in a bar at a Round Table sporting weekend - Leeds I think, could have been Brum. She started a regular magic act but stripped off between each trick and the last few tricks (which although they involved audience participation were strictly magic tricks!) were done completely in the nude.

No it's not that one but that sounds interesting too
