For the last couple of days I have been having a problem on this forum. Signing on and jumping between topics is taking an age, five minutes to log on tonight. This has happened a few times and when I try again later on it has cleared itself. It dosn't happen anywhere else, only on this site, so maybe it's somthing to do with the recent upgrade. Any ideas

Yes We have discussed this in the Upgrade thread. The system is inneed of more memory I thikn Djet was saying.
It's been bad for the last 15-20 minutes.

The upload speed varies constantly here. Today, the whole day has been fine, untill half an hour ago. Sometimes it takes up to over a minute to upload a page, and then suddenly it's fast again.
Presume there are more servers set up for this forum, and one of them is playing up every now and then :-\

Having the same problem Bob, ended up giving up and signing on later.

Just got on again about 20 mins ago but wvwrything is very slow compared with all other sites.
Worse than going back to Dial-up.

Yes Bob I am the same. I can sign ok, then next time it can take an age. Also going between topics can be the same.

I am having the same problems, sometimes I get so fed up waiting for a page to load that I just sign off.

Frustrating it is, but patience chaps, I am sure the mods etc are doing their best.

Since the last (required) upgrades, our server is running very very very low on memory, and considering how much it swaps to disk, I'd say the disk is close to transparent now.
I had to decrease the amount of spawned webserver processes, - which means some connections are dropped at times. This is obviously not good.
More memory has been underway for quite some time, but it has been a real struggle to locate the *right* memory. I tried some I had in my drawer some months ago, - to which the server just beeped "moron!" in morse-code to me. :-)
Later I tried a 1G module, with the same result.
Yesterday I tried a separately purchased module, ... which it didn't like either. Found a single module with the same amount of RAM as the two we've been running on until now, and THIS worked ... albeit NOT if I tried to combine them, which would otherwise have doubled the memory.
Tomorrow I have a plan to try out two other modules, - but even if I'll keep my fingers crossed, my experience tells me to not promise anything, except you can expect some minor downtime tomorrow morning.
However, when we finally succeed in enlarging the servers memory, I am quite confident everyone will get a much better response, - we've never had CPU related slowness, only memory/swapping.

Good luck with that DJet, and thanks a lot for all the efforts! 8)

Sounds like it needs to be installed in matching pairs, and you may have also been mismatching speeds??
What is the make and model of the server? I have a supplier who can provide guaranteed matched memory at good prices.
I've also upgraded some servers at work recently so I may even have some laying around that might be right?
