Title: Any Computer wizzes out there? Post by: Big_M on March 01, 2007, 05:58:20 pm I need a screensaver for my PC - nothing too flash - but I want a countdown for the days, hours and minutes until the start of the race.
Can anyone do this - or point me in the direction of a "make your own screensaver" web site Title: Re: Any Computer wizzes out there? Post by: jpchenet on March 01, 2007, 06:22:38 pm Have a look at The Lawnmower Man's avatar!

I have seen it and that sorta gave me the idea - but I want one on my PC that will remind me of the event every time it goes into Screensaver mode. 8) Title: Re: Any Computer wizzes out there? It only sort of works. It doesn't take into account the fact that the clocks go forward later this month. You have to give it the time the race starts in your timzone. So in the UK you have to say 14:00 since the UK is an hour behind France. It's currently 23:30 here and the countdown is saying 106 day 14 Hours 30 mins. My avatar which is correct is showing 106 days 13 hours and 30 mins. The race starts at 15:00 local in france 14:00 Local in the UK and 13:00 GMT. So at midnight tonight my Avatar will say 105 days 13 Hours which is correct. After Sunday March 25 01:00 GMT the countdown clock will work correctly. I guess this far out no one is that bothered about the odd hour. But I wouldn't like anyone to think my Avatar was wrong. THe countdown timer on the ACO site is also wrong. Well it's wrong if you are not in the same timezone as France. So the DFH guys see the correct time I think. However, The guy over the other side of the pond have a time that is way out. t. It's not your avatar that has the clock, but your signature :-\ :-\ Incidentally, a wikipedia states "Avatars on Internet forums serve the purpose of representing users and their actions, personalizing their contributions to the forum, and may represent different parts of their persona or social status in the forum" Your avatar shows a very small man with an equally small lawnmower, about to 'mow' the nether regions of a young lady (or a regular size man/lawnmower and a VERY LARGE lady) - is this some nascent part of your persona??  Del Title: Re: Any Computer wizzes out there? Post by: Lawnmower Man on March 03, 2007, 12:14:00 am So does this mean that you can't help me with my problem then? :'( Well I'm not sure. The problem is I'm not a windros engineer. So I don;t really know how it deal with timezones. The race will start on 16 June 2007 at 13:00 GMT. He in the UK we currently have our clocks set at GMT. So if you set the countdown clock to count down to 16 June 2007 at 13:00 (Note you can't set the time zone) It will display the correct amount of time to go. It will agree with my avatar. It will continue to show the countdown until Sunday March 25 00:59:59 GMT then the second later the time will be 02:00:00 and the countdown will then jump an hour. Or at least that is what I expect it will do. So now you have to reset it to say the race will start on 16 June 2007 at 14:00 BST. The countdown will then be correct again. regards, t. However, Mine is always correct. It's the others that are wrong. That's not MO it's fact. ;D ;D ;D ;D t. Title: Re: Any Computer wizzes out there?
