Title: Lanyards and Ticket holders.
Post by: Lawnmower Man on May 07, 2007, 10:09:19 pm
Hi,

I'm not sure if this have been suggested before.

How about a Club Arnage Lanyard and Ticket holder.
I've been hunting about and we could get Printed lanyards on Polyester for under £2.
Woven ones are such nicer @about £2.20.

A couple of snags.  The minimum order for printed is 100 and for Woven is 500.

I would like to think that we could shift 100 Lanyards since 100 people took a t-shirt.

It looks like they could be done in time for  the race.  (Practice even if we go for Printed)

So how many people would want one?

For design I was thinking the Club Arnage Logo and may be the Race date or year.

Although I liked this idea a couple of years ago, I find that with MB being infield of the ticket inspections I rarely have to show my ticket so it ends up in camera bag and doesn't see the light of day.

I will however stump up for one if the numbers need it.

We'd take some - I'd rather have woven but flogging 500 might be pushing it unless we had them without the year so that we could flog them next year?

These people http://www.ribbonworks.co.uk do woven lanyards from £3.97 for batches of 50, £2.49 for 100 and £1.73 for 200. There are also satin and damask versions.

I'm not sure about the Satin bit.  :P

A had looked at their web site. It's a bit confusing the price table does give a price for 50 off but they say the minimum order is for 100.

I added a few extras on the one I priced up.  If we just went for the cheapest options the Printered version would be about £1.30 and the Woven £1.70.

I wonder if the CA logo is a bit to complex for a woven one.    Also with the Printed one you can have the printing on both sides which I think is better. Anyway I'll have a chat with them and see what they say.

The place I'm thinking of is not too far away so I could pop over and look at the quality.

I would be interested in two, printed is ok but would prefer woven, but I understand the economies might make that difficult.

Would prefer not to have the date / year on them, but it would not stop me buying if they did.

Sounds good to me.  Just a thought, JH offered to sell some of our stuff on the Radio LM stand.  What about these if we had some over?  They're the sort of thing that people find they need at the last minute.  Maybe put any profits towards the site upgrades which were talked about earlier in the year?

Well it's worth a try but they would have to be more expensive to the Public :-)

And I was reading just the other day that decadance was dead.
Will they be hypo-allergenic, and can you do me some matching pants while you're on?

H, satin pants and lanyards?

Will you be road testing them before the big event? :D

Will you be selling tickets for that to add to the charity bit?

Which reminds me, I still have to go on and pay you to ride to La Belle Patrie...

Toodle pip.

Satin pants

Bike ride

mind

However I'd have a Club Arnage lanyard/ticket holder and so might some of the other messy MGers as we were dubbed :)

I will also take ticket holders as well

I've had some quotes back and some samples are on there way.  So I hope I'll have the samples for the Reading Planning meeting on Friday.

The most promising at the moment  looks like a Double sided Woven Lanyard from the place Rick suggested.
I think they would look good double sided.  They would have ticket holders too.  Since puting the date on would limit the shelf life of the lanyard it may be better to go for say the  Logo and "www.clubarnage.com"

To get the price reasonable  I'd need to get at least 200.  That's going to set me back £500.   So far people have indicated they would take 48 plus I will Make the members of my group buy one so that's going to take it over the half way mark to 100.

Now there are a couple of questions I think we need to answer.

Termietermite mentioned selling via RLM but do we want that?
My thought here. They should only be available to those with a connection to Club Arnage.
If we do go for selling to Joe Public then I think we need to get agreement from Grand Fromage.
In fact I think I need to do that anyway.  After all it's his Copyright/Trademark etc.

Now I don't think anyone wants me to be out of pocket on this.  So are any of you willing to help underwrite any losses?

One thing we could do is pay say £3.50 then I'd break even at about 140. That may be doable and it still a fair bit cheaper than the cheap ones you see on the stalls around the circuit.  Then any profit £200 if we sell out could be used to help fund the site upgrade as Termietermite suggested earlier.

Given the rather late idea I think I have to finalise this and place the order Monday.

The other big problem is the distribution.   I think at this late stage it would have to be done at the Campsites or Circuit so we may need some distributors in the other camp sites.

I'd happily pay say £3.50 each for us if that helps to make it do-able.

I'd go for "no year" so that they don't expire come June, I also agree with keeping them within ourselves rather than flogging them through RLM.  I'd be happy to wander round say the DfH party bullying persuading folks to buy them.   Presumably any ultimate profit will either provide a float to allow us to buy more next year or go to Doris' charity?

It was just an "off the top of my head" thought at the time as I could see you shelling out quite a bit and ending up with a deficit.   But £3.50 to members only sounds better to me.  I still think it would be a good fundraiser for the site though, on the off-chance you have anything left over- no offence to Doris's charity of course, I'm sure a few squids will come your way too, D!

Exclusivity rules OK

I'd take two IF they are Yearless, and bear the CA logo.

I agree the proceeds to go to where ever you like. Doris, I'm sure you can find another way to make ME pay again this year 8) !

So next, do we have time for you to organise CA shorts for us blokes and maybe thongs for the girls ladies?

 ;)

OK OK only joking, sort of...

But yes please two at £3.50

I think this thread makes clear that Grand Fromage should start thinking about CA merchandise, at least for next year. It's clear that we like our CA logo and many of us are willing to spend some money on CA-branded items, see t-shirts, this thread about ticket holders and I'm sure CA hats would find some buyers too.

For this year (or the next year) I would suggest:

-pre order / pre-payment until a set date
-get these things made, but only the pre-paid amount
-distribution at the track via RLM shop, pick-up showing some ID ( I think anything else is too complicated)

Price calculation: Manufactoring costs + RLM handling fee + CA website maintenance fee (or so)

I'm not sure whether it's not already too late for this now, may be we should bear it in mind for 2008

I've seen no reaction so far from any of our group, but I deffo want one, and we can easily persuade some others of the 30ish joining this year. ;D

Werner, You make good points as usual.

I think most of stuff we have done so far with "CA Branding" has be top quality.  The Polos from JPC two or three years ago.
The T-Shirts as always.  The CA Guide of course.    I've never seen andy in anything but this green "Original"  CA Polo so that must  be quality too.  I'll only go ahead with the Lanyard purchase if I like the quality.

Personaly I think "dated" stuff has to be pre paid but Caps, Lanyards and  Polos etc may be not.

To answer the questions regarding payment for the Lanyards.

Once I place the order I'll start a "Lanyards Orders" thread with address details etc if people can send me cheques that will help the cash flow.

Do the prices include the plastic ticket holder?

I've looked into these in the past and struggled to find them with a plastic sleeve large enough for a Le Mans style ticket?

If they do, I'll have 14!

Well so far it really looks like a goer as they say.

I spoke to Grand Fromage earlier today,  he's really cool about us doing this.

It's only three days since I posed the idea and I now effectively have orders for 120 so I only need another 23 to break even.

The man at the supplier assures me the Samples will be here tomorrow.    So assuming that the samples pass inspection  at the Reading Planning meet tomorrow it's going to happen.

Regarding the JPC question about the ticket holders I've asked for 80 x 130 that will hold the tickets once all the bits are torn off so one can fold the ticket at the perforation to fit it in.  I would prefer that sort of size I currently have a "Just Tickets" holder and find that is really too big at 115 x 215 if you think it should be the larger size I'll try to get that.  The holder will not be Branded.

Hmm, difficult. I like to collect all the bits and bobs they forget to harvest at the gate in and out at Houx so the larger size would do for me, but the other size will do (I can always use the clear folder off the AUDI freebie from the year before last!)

Everyone at the meeting last night seemed to like my choice.   It's the silky material deluxe lanyard woven both sides.
I think it's fair to say everyone felt it should have the year that way we have a better chance of doing it again next year.
With the orders I have to date the costs of 200 are covered.   Unless I get a significant number above 200 I'm not going to go for the 300.  I'll need orders for 250 before I go for 300.   Selling 250 of the 300 would give the same profit/contribution to the "server" fund.

Once I get the art work back I'll post it here for you to see,   The background colour will be the darkish blue from the Logo and should look something like http://lemans.tmdg.co.uk/lanyard.html  but the text will be white.

Assuming everyone pay before the Credit card hist my letterbox 'll be fine.

Hi.

The art work is available to view.   Unfortunately its a PDF so I can't get it to display in the post.  You will have to View it by following this link (http://lemans.tmdg.co.uk/clubarnage.pdf)

It doesn't show on linux or mac platforms. :(

I should also point out that the background will be plain and not have the Chquered Flag   We may also find that the Circles and Squares on the logo will be white not pale blue.

Well the time has come to commit to what we/I am going to do on the Lanyard order.

The poll says to me that the vast majority are ambivalent about the year at worst. Two people have said they have not ordered because the Lanyard has the year on it.  To me there is some kudos in having stuff from years ago.  See  this web archive from Dave's original site in 1999
http://web.archive.org/web/19990502171717/www.club-arnage.com/takewith.htm
where he says your t-shirt should be at least 5 years old.  If we don't have the year then next year we won't get repeat sales from those that like to collect the whole set.

Firm orders at the moment are 171.

At £3.50 if I sell 189 it would cover the cost of buying 300.
I'm pretty sure I could  sell more than 200.   However,  If I stick to just 200  That will make ~£200 profit for the Server fund.

If we didn't have the financial issues I'd actually order 300.

If I go for the extra 100 then I need to sell 247 to make £200 profit.  But if we could sell 300 we would make almost £400 for the server fund.  In some ways it's very tempting.  BUT may be it's being greedy.  I'm not sure I want to risk the £200.

OK we'll have some disappointed customers.  But they will be first in the queue next year. :)

So unless someone comes up with an order for 50+ in the next few hours.   I'm going to stick to the 200.

t.
