Come on Wishy. You know there is only ONE beer to drink whilst at La Sarthe.

http://www.le-brewery.com/englishindex.html Yum.

Have to agree with Mr Brown. Shall we say about 1pm on the Friday before the race at the Tertre Rouge bar as usual?

So you're not picking up any wristbands to get a draft beer at our party Steve?

Maybe Steve isn't sponsoring a barrel but is bringing a case of 24 x Leffe instead LT?? ;D

Don't tell me our 1,750 litres of Kadetten Pils is not enough! >:(
;D

Too True Paddy!!
Steve.............better make that 48 bottles of Leffe!! ;)
After all, we don't want those Houx Annexe Ruffians coming over to Maison Blanche and drinking all our beer!
Heaven forbid that they might not even have a campsite at all next year and want to join us for the whole week!?
-
There are 2 beers, not one ........I believe the other one is sometimes called "Wife Beater"

Most are acceptable, but a few years ago on our site a Brit group seemed not to be be terribly 'compus mentis' (?). There was a vast quantity of AMSTERDAM NAVIGATOR being quaffed at all times throughout the weekend which seemed to keep them in in a semblance of 'sonambulism'. They had picked up what appeared to be three months supply and were intent on supping it in three days.
Having assisted them in attempting to shift the 'beer mountain' I can safely say that it might not be 'top of the pops' for me!
Packs a punch though!

Dutch Heineken always interested me...having joined DFH for an afternoon, I asked "what beer is this?" - The reply? Heineken...
Now in England, until very recentely, Heineken was about 3.4% I think, not strong, and therefore a bit like drinking urine. At the time i wasn't worried about the taste, just the volume to get to as much of an inebriated state as I had the night before.
I was feeling bemused by the looks of "he might be drinking that a bit quick" - which explained themselves, when it came to light that this was Dutch heineken, and therefore considerably stronger than I thought...
Needless to say I spent the majority of the night on my back, passed out...however I did manage to save myself the embarrasment of being sick all over the steve mcqueen poster, in a Roy stylee!
A couple of weeks and I will have to try this "new" beer from DfH!
-
Excuse you!!!!! I did not, nor will I ever blow chunks over Steve McQueen! Just for the record, it was Stranger aka Marcel ten Caat, who now is no longer with us, for obvious reasons ;D
Last year we had the same beer we will have this year, we had no complaints about it, so it must be at least drinkable!
-
Last year we brought the same 'new' beer as we have this year. In 2005 we had Heineken. :)
In 2005 it wasn't Roy being sick over the Steve McQueen poster, but Marcel!
Just to get some facts straight. ;)
(I see Roy was just a few seconds faster then I was)

On the subject of beer. Can anyone remember the name of one of the beers that was being drunk at Sebring? It was a lager type beer with a slight floral taste and if I remember right it had a girls name. I would like to source it in the UK if possible but can't remember the name.

Sam Adams and Yeungling are the two beers that we were drinking. There were lots of "Lite" beers, maybe that's what you mean by girls beers? ;D
-
Yeungling. That's the one. Lovely stuff. Cheers Mark

How many girls do you know called Yeungling? Sounds like you've been spending too much time in Bangkok. Are you SURE she was a girl?

I'd reccomend trying the 500ml bottled German beer from Lidl. I think its £4.99 for 6 here but would probably be nearer to £3 in France, the canned stuff not bad either. Can't remember either of the names though!
-
At last year's Edinburgh Festival I drunk some extraordinarily cheap canned beer from Aldi or Lidl in Germany. 8% IIRC, about 2 bob a can or less. While it did the trick of the "quick high before hitting the town" I haven't vomited quite so much in years as I did in the early hours.

Finkbrau!
(Never had the stuff, but I work for them... NO, I can't get discounts!)
-
That Girly beer at Sebring gives a serious hangover though ........mind you Matt H was a very good host at the "Fish on Fire" after forcing us to drink all evening ;D
From what I can remember Yuengling was pretty potent stuff as Nopaic will admit. After Only 2 pints he managed to fall over the fence outside the bar!!!!
-
From what I remember(?) the best beers in 'S' were Amber Bock and Sam Adams, I think, I do not think it is the same thing(??) also there was a 'bit' of vodka drunk, ok only 2 litres, but then I did not get drunk. I do not think so anyway.
Heineken used to be imported into Guernsey, it was 'P' not really a lover of lager, perhaps that is why I did not taste the Freaky Deaky stuff.
See you soon... at LM
I am currently planning my road trip to Spa for the 24, really looking forward to the drive from St Malo, remember I do live on a 25sq mile Island.
Don't forget Piglet you are/were going to start a thread for Spa (please)
By the way Belgian beer, if you do not know, can be pretty special...
>Martini...
-
Rather partial to 3 Monts, nice light beer at 8.5% :o

Ahh yes good point - I'll start something now and we can bump it back up after the small event we'll all be at soon....
Mmmmm Belgian beer ;D
-
Yeungling. That's the one. Lovely stuff. Cheers Mark
It stacks neatly, too. ;D
I'd guess that you'll have a hard time finding it over there. You can't even get it in most parts of the States.

Did that come supplied with its own brown bag? I Some of that stronger stuff is a bit stomach churning, and some of them are suitable only for "specialists". Is Carlsberg special brew still available?
The weaker (5%) lidl beers are decent but the canned one will cool quicker.

Working at Le Mans and therefore not being at the DfH-compound for most of the weekend doesn't mean I'm gone :) Was there multiple times!! :o
(Late reply...yes I know, busy busy busy)

I'm a bit late to this thread, but any Belgian 'Monastry Beer', some are at 11%. But you to drink it in the glass designed for it.

On the subject of good beer- anyone taking the Cherbourg crossing and travelling via Domfront should make a slight detour to a small village 7k NE of Domfront called Champsecret. There is a little pub called The Secret Knight, its just like pubs used to be, open fire, real locally produced artisan beers, mad old french Morgan owner propping up the bar etc. And I challenge anyone on here, male or female, not to fall in love with the girl behind the bar! She made me almost miss the ferry. Gorgeous.

What else can you say about this beer,
