With the countdown underway hopefully the weather forecasts may be somewhat indicative. 2 I have found are AccuWeather (http://wwwa.accuweather.com/world-forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&locCode=EUR|FR|FR018|LE%20MANS&metric=1) and Weather.com (http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/FRXX0048?x=0&post=post&code=code&y=0). AccuWeather currently saying warm & sunny for Sat 16th which is promising, weather.com I can only get the 10 day forecast up.
Anyone know of any other sites?
-
Not too sure how accurate these long range forecasts are, the damn BBC can rarely even get it right for the following few hours :P
Anyway, Metcheck (http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/europe_forecast_14days.asp?locationID=1758) have it as being 23 degrees for the raceday at noon.
-
OK here is the deal.
Last year the long range forcast for the Race weekend ranged from Hot and Sunny to Thunderstorms.
To day Acuweather give the high as as 26C for Sat 16th I'm willing to take bets that the high will not be 26C the temperature to be that given by Le Mans Airfield in their METAR.

Even they weren't too accurate last year, Tom. They said rain would stop (on the wednesday) at x o'clock - actually stopped at x+3 (forgotten the actual times!!)

x=4
I think, because I started putting tent up at about 6.30 and rain stopped just after I finished. Then we went to the bar with wet muddy trousers that had been previously persil white. Note the use of I in first sentence and we in the second. Thats my brother for you.

Having just come back from France, I know that its been cold and has p!ssed down all week.
Its got to change, but Weather.com says its p!ssing down all of next week (but warmer)
My money is on "El Skorchio" - 30+
Better pack another fridge

I'll have some of that Lorry. Let's hope you're right

Exactly. The forcast was wrong.

OK so I know you're (mostly) English and therefore obsessed with the weather but let's face it.....
...weather will happen. Take shorts and t-shirts as well as waterproofs and you're pretty much covered. If it gets cold and you don't have warm clothing go and buy some!
I might have lived here a long time and I may even have a burgundy passport but I will never get the weather thing...... ;D ;D ;D
Dx
PS: I think the glass my mate has just handed me has liquid parafin in it so I may well be dead before LM....
-
I hope it doesn't piss it down, I left my water proof jacket in the back of ATC Gregs' truck after the boat trip whilst in Florida !
Unless Greg is coming to Le Mans, in which case he can bring it with him and return it to me .
-
Well Doris I've lived here all my life and i don't get the weather obsession either.
Of course we would all like to know if it's going to rain. It could influence our choice of transport. For example if the forcast was for Rain one might choose to go for the opton of going by Car rather than a Motorbike. Now if it turns out to be dry one has paid more to take a Car rather than a Bike. So your out of pocket. How are you going to recoup the money?
Sue the Weather Man?
When I looked at AccuWeather at 20:45 CEST yesterday It gave Saturday 17th weather as:-
Warm with plenty of sunshine. Winds from the NE at 8 km/h. High 26
Now lets just look at that.
They say Warm how hot is that? Now the high of 26 is IMNVHO 'kin hot.
Now 12 hours later thats all out the window. it's now going to be:-
Sun and some clouds. Winds from the N at 8 km/h. High 22
When was the last lime you had weather that was Sun? (Sunny yes but not Sun)
Some Clouds? How many is that? It only takes one full blown Towering Coulmnus Nimbus to washout the whole campsite.
The High of 22 thats about right for me.
But since yesterday thaty said "Warm with plenty of sunshine. " and now they don't, does that mean it's not going to be warm and there won't be plenty of sunshine.
If you really want to know what the weatther in Le mans will be just look in Monday 18th newspaper.

Is that Pam the weather's sister (or brother??) ;) ;)
If you really want to know what the weatther in Le mans will be just look in Monday 16th newspaper.
If you wait till then, Tom, the race will be long over - that's in July!!

Corrected. ;-)
Just to go way off topic. Did you know there is only one Saturday the 16th this year.

I am not too bothered by accuracy to the degree, but more by the difference between a tendency to be dry/sunny or to be cloudy/wet. So at the moment (according to AccuWeather) I am much happier planning to be near Le Mans 15,16,17 than 11,12,13.
Just to go way off topic.
No problem - its my thread!Did you know there is only one Saturday the 16th this year.
How anal is that! Then again, there are just 12 16ths in a year so some days have to come up short! Having said that, methinks the metrication police would prefer that to be 0.75 which makes it completely meaningless :police:

I'd like to think it's not anal at all. I just happen to know that June starts on a different day from all of the other months in the year. It's just one of those fasinating facts.

Well if you want a real giggle, Metcheck have Heavy Snow forecast for Wednesday 13th after midnight ???

Gentlemen. Anoraks on please

Ladies and Gentlemen- have we all forgotten the teachings of Sir Bob of Dylan?
'don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows'
relax- it'll be fine!
(At least some of the time?)

HI I hate to ruin everyons day but take a look at Accumeather.com http://wwwa.accuweather.com/world-forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&locCode=EUR|FR|FR018|LE%20MANS&metric=1

Touche. At least there is plenty of time to cycle through the blizzard and back to sunny before I get there!
-
Oh goody ..... :-\
-
Oh great, more rain.
I'm still driving around on a bin liner since Monday's drowning.
-
Gentlemen. Anoraks on please
Is this an instruction to us all because of weather forecasts or just to those joining the 'starts on a different day' element to this thread?
;)
-
Sod this (click) (http://tinyurl.com/2tvvg5), it will never rain as hard as it did at Sebring '07 :-\
And we survived that ;D

http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/FRXX0048 not looking so bad here but i'm starting to panic!!! Rowena bought the tents this year and I just hope they're waterproof... Can't be as bad as my purchases last year of monodome disposable tents ??? ;D
-
Like, if it pees down and is freezing, you aren't going to come? I think not.... ;)
-
Err no, but I guess they might be looking for a place to sleep then. ;D
-
I am further down in the south west, but every day since Sunday the forecast has been rain and thunder storms but its been clear blue skies all the way (so far :-\ ).
I did see devastating flash floods on telly somewhere further east tho...

The old desktop weather is finally making a prediction for race weekend. It's generally about 100% wrong, so let's take bets on:
Monday 11th 22 Thunder storms
Tuesday 12th 25 Scattered showers
Wednesday 13th 23 Partly cloudy
Thursday 14th 23 Showers
Friday 15th 22 Showers
Saturday 16th 23 Parly cloudy
Sunday 17th 24 Showers

Looks similar to the forecast from the weather channel ...

Hmm - not so sure - about the week, but the race weekend looks like precipitation could well be a bit of a them......
I always find this site useful http://euro.wx.propilots.net/ (http://euro.wx.propilots.net/) Click on the drop down box at the top left and find "Precipitation Rate Forecast 00-144 hr", and then click on the time frame you want to look at across the top. Normally depressingly accurate. As is the "Cloudcover Forecast 00-72hr" view :(

I predict that all areas will be wet from about 10am til very late evening-early morning on all days, wind will rise in all directions from late afternoon onwards only abating briefly at around mid morning.
Worst affected areas likely to be MB and HA.
Poor visibility on Friday evening clearing saturday with Sunday likely to be very smoggy.
However trackside conditions likely to be perfect for racing whatever the weather.
-
at least it isn`t gonna be like 2001..now that was wet !!
-

And thats why hasn't been so wet since! After that race I went out and bought a tent I can stand up in, and sit and cook inside! Since then no sustained torrential rain!

HOT HOT HOT

Oh, I love weather forecasts. The weather channel is telling me it's raining so I'm trying to figure out what that big warm yellow thing in the sky is.

One thing will be a certainty with the weather ...... there will be plenty of it ::)
-
The Commer has given me it's forecast:
On saturday it should rain in drops about the size of a wrestler but fortunately most of the rain not quite reaching the ground. It will be quite warm, about the temperature of a cow. On sunday there will be a very stupid area of low pressure and this will bring some stiff breezes, feeling a bit like the first rush of euphoria induced by a large dose of heroin. This will bring some heavy thunder, about as loud as a woman. So the summary is, cool, showers, wet, cool, showers, wet, cool, showers, wet, cool, showers, wet......

No we won't:-(!
Whilst on the subject of rain- 2 of my group live in Barnsley and if thats not bad enough, hearing on Radio Le Mans that it was under water was quite disturbing for them. They got away without too much damage. It was quite a sight on our return- big floods, skips full of ruined possesions and literally tens of pounds worth of damage! :-D:-D
-
Dont worry - peeing down again now and no sign of a let up. :(
-
This bloody weather sucks.
Got a call yesterday from one of the lads in our group who spent most of this years race wondering if he still had a home to go back to after hearing of the flooding in South Yorkshire on Radio LM. We got back to find his neighbours filling skips with water damaged furnature and the like. His house had been quite badly hit. Unfortunately he has had another bad flood again this week just as life was getting back to normal. Spare a thought for the poor sod- he's gutted.
-
Yes Si, the bit of inconvenient rain at Le Mans palls into insignificance compared to that suffered over the middle of the country this week.
Hope your mate has adequate insurance - it still doesn't compensate for the heartache and anguish though.
