Title: 100th Aniversay
Post by: Leftie on June 03, 2007, 09:23:09 pm
The LM weekend (16/17th June) is also the 100th Aniversay of our famous banked circuit at Brooklands.

It is a facinating place with BABS and the Napier Rialton in the museum.
Mercedes Benz World has opened there now.  This act saved Brooklands from being swamped by 2 jags prescott's housing expansion.

I think one of our photographer buddies is going to Brooklands for that rather than LM so hopefully there will be lots of pics afterwards

I went to Brooklands a couple of years ago to see the Napier Railton running and driving circuits around the museum complex.

Lovely to see the old girl is still road worthy (shame about the majority of the circuit though).

I don't know what they run it on, but it made my eyes water.

Lovely sound

And the Brooklands test hill is fun too

And the Brooklands test hill is fun too

I walked/crawled up it a few weeks back and nearly called the paramedics. That is steep. I used to Sprint/Hillclimb and nothing was that steep, I've walked up most 'mountains' in UK and even got 2/3 up the Eiger. But that is steep. Short & sharp.

How the hell you can drive a narrow wheeled car up beets me.  The oldies will remember the twin wheeled motors (4 rears) - nearly as wide as the tarmac.

I live part-time just 3 miles from it.
