The bloke (thanks for the lend of your bike if your reading) camping next door to me (not you Mark) was saying that the Tetre Rouge bar was getting knocked down to make way for a new tramline. Can anyone confirm this rumour because if its true, its sacrilege. Do they not have such things as listed buildings in France. Any comment on the truth of the rumour Gilles?
-
I heard that one too...
-
Please... no !!! :o
-
Dont know what i'll do without some of that reassuringly expensive Stella on Wednesday night.
PM
-
And where will we watch the footy next year? Even PM may be interested as looks like Wales are a dead cert to qualify.
Oh btw PM, looking at your crankshaft logo, I hope this is not indicative of the engineering tolerances used in your machine shop. It's as pissed as a parrot!
-
Its true boys we had a chat with the owner who has been paid off by the local government. His mum and dad live in the house next door and they are all upping sticks and moving to Rouen...so its the end of the stella pub dudes.. :( :( :( :( :(
-
Its just another nibble in to the greatest race ever.

shhiiit, well, at least I managed to grab a pint there this year, and have memories of drinking outside when you could still see the track...
-
It will be sad,sad day when they pull the Stella Bar down, this was only my second year , but it felt like a home from home. :( :'( >:( :( :'( >:(
But where is this tramline going ? Mulsanne village prehaps? Gilles or KPY do you have any more details? I surpose that if it goes in this direction the french version of the grey suited anti-fun nazis will shut it down on the weekend of the race 'for reasons of safety'.
-
Barry, how's it hangin mate, will miss the uneven floor in the out side area, made you feel sober when pissed, great shame it has to go. Gilles could you not get some local's together and form a demo on our behalf, burn some British, beef on the car park and set fire to some pallet boards, in France that always works, does it not.
Brian.

A bit of info, but not much:
"Le Mans chooses the tram: The "Communaute Urbaine du Mans" voted 40 to nil for tramways on rails. (The opposition declined to vote). The project is for one route of 13,5km between "Universite Nord"and "Antares" with a branch to Sablons". The cost = approximately 1,3 milliards French Francs. The system is expected to open in 2003 or 2004."

...voted 40 to nil for tramways on rails.
I recon it would have been different if they asked us.
-
Prehaps we ought to get the British invoved here. If our politicians/experts in large rail engineering projects help ( channel rail link, cross rail etc) then the stella bar should be safe for at least another 10 years or even longer. ;D ;D ;D
-
No need to involve us Brits in this. They're doing a grand job on their own. Notice the projected opening dates 2003/2004 and they've not dug a hole yet! Even when they do get round to starting work, there's at least a 2-3 year lead time for trams, so, at a guess you're probably looking closer to 2007 (providing trams don't fall out of favour in the mean time!)
-
What's the betting that the tream line runs right down the centre of the Mulsanne....... >:(
-
Ok then, tram rather than tream - spill chocker not functioning this early at work....
-
Bentley tramlines at 220mph (none of this silly kph stuff)! Intresting.................... ::)
-
Gilles, is there any further news on this??
Will the Stella Bar still be there in November?? Is there still a chance that it might be there for the race next June if work is not yet started??
-
Probably the bar would still be there in November...
... the work should not start until next june, but knowing the ACO and depending of the date of leaving of the owners, I bet you a champoo bottle that they will destroy the building maybe just a month before the race in June.
-
So, is there a chance that we still could have a last call during PQ ?
-
absolutely no Idea...
... it gonna be an another ACO mystery ! ???
-
Probably demolish it a month before the race, then leave the area vacant during the race just to annoy us.
Should leave it till the race week ant we could have a send off party, then demolish sunday night with a grand firework display.
What do you reckon?
-
Just for info. The tram system still has no viable date for opening yet, so how long the bar remains is anyones guess.
However, knowing other systems, once the go-ahead is given, the civils work (track etc) tends to progress quite quickly.
The system, as proposed, appears to terminate somewhere in the region of the first Mulsanne chicane (Antares). Although why anyone would want to build a tram route to there is beyond me!
Sorry, I'm not a spotter, it's what I do for a living (light rail, that is). If I plan a route, it goes round the pubs but through all tax offices.

Antares is out major place for concerts and basket plays, so we need a decent transport system to access to it 51 weeks a year !!!
-
Ahhh, thanks Gilles. That would explain it then!
Nowt like a little local knowledge, is there?.
Regards
GeeBee
-
Would thid give us a new viewing area on the straight then?
-
Yeth id would.
Imagine, we could park half a dozen trams parallel to the Mulsanne, rip out some seats, install some pumps, coolers, barrels etc, bung in some bunks, get some girlies, have a strip show, get slaughtered ........................I think I better go and have a lie down, nurse.
Now, just to get involved in the project...............(disappears off to plot and plan)
-
As the train will have priority on cars, and as the line could cross the Mulsanne straight I just imagine drivers waiting at red light while the train pass.
During the Race Antares is rented by Marques Park (any details on this company ??) to organise a top-level hospitality. The view from the first floor to the Mulsanne straight is quite good, from tertre Rouge bar to the first chicane !!!!
-
Wotcher Gilles,
Take a look at the pic I posted in "I can't believe what people sell" thread. I'm sure it was the Marques Parques thing that I wandered into. The Antares centre was pretty impressive, in particular the concert/sporting arena. Do you get any big names playing there? Andy's mate Chris should put it on his list.
Seriously, how on earth could tram tracks be laid across the road? Ok for your normal traffic, but come race week there'd be cars up the trees!
H
-
Where would the tracks run? Would it beer alongside the road or set back in nearby fields?
Are there any plans for this Gilles.
-
I was joking about train going acroos the Mulsanne straight. The Station could be near to the Decathlon car park.
Antares is a place for great concerts but I can't remember any of last international artists. Out cars and texan girl I have no really other interest in life :P
-
Hi Gilles et al, I bet the stupid Tram does not run on race week so we can not go into town and getted p i s s e d up ::) on it that is as we/I will continue to go to town by what ever means possible. Maybe we need to charter a BUS for our local commute?
Canada Phil
-
don't expect the tram before 2006 / 2007 but it could still run during th race week even maybe until antares even during the race.
I hope you don't expect to use the same vehicle to commute as in June after the Flambadou. O, it's quite fast to go to Vieux Mans to Maison Blanche and it's available after 2 am, but it also needs a pair or rear suspensions ;) !!!
-
Gilles,
Please buy a Renault Espace for next year because the w**k team are used to travelling in style.
PM
-
Style? Espace? Must be a typo...
-
w**k ? which probably have a =n another meaning to the one I think first ??
I already have an Espace but this year it was in Paris all week long !
Smokie you're true with style but just try to put all the w**k team (5 "great" members) in a simple VW Golf and you gonna find Espace as luxury !!!
-
PM, with a crank, thats so out of balance like the one on your logo, you all must enjoy a certain amount of vibration. Gilles get them all in a Fiat 500, this will help with a bit of CA, bonding.
CU later.
Brian.

Wishywashyman has been travelling by Espace for years but has never travelled in style. Mind you, the Shed is a unique (or is that antique?) version of this particular vehicle. Sort of Gallic Commer really but without the potential for rusty body panels ;)
-
Ah!!!!"......Pretzel.the other thing you forgot to mention is that the Renault Espace also has a galvanized chassis...........soooooo.....no rust...hence why at 14 years of age it is still in one piece!!!!..........sort of ;D 8) :)..............but will your Scooby still be around in ten years??????
