While visiting our Dutch friends last weekend,...........The subject was raised on a trek to the southern hemisphere in 2009 to watch the 12 hour endurance race at Bathurst
So who's going then?
-
I'm seriously thinking of going. Not sure it takes them 12 hours to do 1000 miles though.
-
I watched the latest edition of Bathurst on Motors, I believe it took them 10½ hours.
Yep, seriously thinking about it. All to do with the pennies though, and it seems you need quite a few of them to get you there :-\

Hmm...A weekend of racing followed by a week chilling out at my Dad's house on the Victoria coast. Very tempting!

From what I understood we shouldn't mangle with "the Fools on the Hill" :-\

And how 'bout some of us joining in the chilling out? ;)
-
I've driven round it twice, and very exciting it is (all at 50 KPH, the speed limit, honest)

You're all more than welcome. ;D
I'll tell Dad to expect guests. I'm sure he won't mind. :-\

Going to the Antipodes in February '08 for daughter's wedding but unfortunately that will be it for a couple of years or so. Will just have to settle for Le Mans again. C'est la vie.....

No, can't do, will be my last year of my Ph.D. project, so do not have the time nor the money. Planning a six week vacation in New Zealand in 2010, so australia is out of the question.

What a bunch of tosse*s
Quite a lap the guy in the Elise had though

Yes I have to agree with you Oldtimer, any thoughts I had of going to Australia's greatest motor race have been filed permanently in the bin. Looks like it is attended by complete w+nkers if those clips are anything to go by.

Hang one a minute! Don't tar everyone with the same brush.
Imagine you met someone for the first time and all they'd heard or seen of Le Mans were stories or pictures of some of the antics at Houx Annex roundabout on a Friday night in recent years. How would you feel if as soon as you said you went to Le Mans they instantly judged you based on those images?

Exactly what I pointed out on our forum, Doris!
freaky deeky Dutch topic (click) (http://forum.drinkingforholland.com/viewtopic.php?t=1008) ;)

Okay so babelfish isn't an exact science but it's spooky......we were nearly word for word on that! 8)

I totally agree, although I'm not that allergic to childish fun at race tracks as some others may be. For me, it's part of the experience to see what the event is all about in a totally different part of the world. I'll try to keep some sort of safe distance though, if that's possible.
-
I think on every racetrack you will find people that are a bit rough around the edges, but as long as they do not bother other people, why give a damn. Looks like to much of a good time for me, so I would keep my distance, but then again, I'm not going so, I should be save at home ;D
-
Maybe I should copy my Sebring-plan Oz-style: fly to Perth, rent a car, drive to Bathurst and drop the car at Sydney on the way out ;D
-
tar everyone with the same brush.
mmmm, yes please, sounds nice...

Yes fair comment Doris they would think I was a wa+ker - and based on what goes on at HA roundabout I would not blame them at all.
