I notice that Bastille Day falls the day after the LM Classic weekend. Are we to expect deserted roads and drunken french persons when we arrive back at Boulogne that evening?

Hi Steve
From my experience it would be worth stopping another night somewhere and joining in.

I guess Bastille Day is a bank Holiday, does that mean the shops and petrol stations may be closed enroute to the ports?

Shops yes - closed with one or two exceptions, but don't rely on them. Petrol stations in service areas - no. And a lot more 24 hour ones are accepting UK cards now - increasing every week.

Best get our wine, beer and gifts for wives/girlfriends on Friday.
I hope the route home is not littered with out of fuel classic cars reminding one of the Nazi retreat from Russia.
Will the hotel will still be able to rustle up a breakfast on Monday morning, or will Le Patron be wearing a large rosstte and sash combo and marching the local aristo to the village square?

Shouldn't think breakfast will be a problem. Most bakers are open in the morning.
