anyone thinking of braving the weather?
God lord - are you mad?!! LOL
I will just be doing a day trip - will cramp my style a bit with the beer, but have other plans for the rest of Easter weekend.

Absoluteley barkng Fran, but the camping is inside the circuit thats the attraction. As far as I can see its the only race this year worth watching where camping is inside the circuit. Please correct me somebody if I am wrong.

Team Muz will be there, probably from Saturday to Monday.
There is NO track activity on the Sunday at all so a good chance to explore the circuit properly either on foot or scooters, hopefully all the stewards will be eating Easter eggs ;)
We'll be trialling our new assault vehicle although Mrs Muz has thus far chickened out of any of our camping expeditions. But she has to attend this event to practice on Jr's scooter, just to make sure she doesn't make herself look a complete idiot in France this year ::) I predict a day trip in prospect for one of our party ???
Camping at Oulton Park is (I think) always infield, and normally around the Lodge corner area (the last corner, turn left as soon as you're over the Bailey bridge). The only other event worth camping for there is the Gold Cup meeting on August BH weekend.
You should be able to identify us without any difficulty......
......and by Monday, the fridge will only be full of cold beer, all the bacon will have gone (http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i188/Muzorewa/Smilies/snack.gif)
Stop by for a refresher ;)
-
Bongotastic Muz ;)
If you book on the tinternet adurlt price is £16 compared to £20 on the gate, kids under 12 are free. ;D
-
We have - all the kids who won't pass as under 12 can hide under a duvet at the gate ::)

This is one of our race meetings, I'll be in Race Admin, KK will be round and about somewhere as the need dictates.

LPP,
Plenty of room "Up North", remember to wrap up well ;D
Hopefully try and round up some of us soft southerners for a mission over the cattle grid and into the unknown after LM. How much further than Salisbury is it?? ;)
-
Hello, i dont know, I dont post for months and two at once!
Piglet pointed out that there are a few of you meeting up at Oulton. I will be there too, supporting Team GCR (run by sometime poster Norbert) and with the young Tom Dunstan in the seat of thier Ginetta G50. Drop by and say hi. You can not miss it it is very green as you can see.
Muz great looking bit of kit there, you should be a lot dryer at Spa this year, and if Oulton keeps up its history with me, dryer there too!
Bobblehat

see you all monday then :)
-
Where shall we meet up? :-\
-
Umm - there is a place called "Kentagon Bar & Restaurant" appears on the map just outside Paddock Hill Bend - how about there around - umm - 11:45? (That will be after Bobblehat's race and just ahead of lunch break - GTs re-start at 13:10)
(If this turns out to be members only hospitality or sommat daft like that there is a "knife & fork/shopping basket" shown just nearby on the circuit map) (There is also a Halewood Bar a bit further on from Paddock Wood Bend for 2nd choice)
Dont know if anyone else has a better plan or insider knowledge - open to suggestions?
F
-
Fran - that's Brands Hatch - There's a cafe at Oulton, the Super Seven cafe or something like that, maybe Chequers - just by the main paddock entrance. Or if people are watching from Cascades, the Fogarty Moss building (the old Jackie Stewart building) is a good place you can't miss - but you'd only be able to meet outside there, that's for the corporate hospitality peeps ;)
-
Fran - that's Brands Hatch
:-[ - I did wonder why they would have a place called "Kentagon"!!
Did I get the right timetable tho?
F
-
Yep - Timetable spot on ;)
It's the Chequers complex - the Super Seven bit is their breakfast - a choice of seven delights that you shouldn't really indulge in (http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i188/Muzorewa/Smilies/snack.gif)
-
PDF File Linky for the race timetable is:

Super seven it is then at 11:45
Any one taking a BBQ :-\
See you then peeps

To huddle round and warm our hands??
OK - 11.45 at Chequers for a Super7 brekkie/brunch it is then! :D

Kev, why don't you need to be ill to phone jules. 8)
Comer has now been added ;)
ill be parked over at Knickerbrook as usual :)
-
Best photos to be had from either
1. Britten's chicane - a long walk over the footbridge but well worth it, or you can drive into the Knickerbrook entrance but still a fair walk. You can drive in there and then still get back into the main entrance if you wish.
or:
2. Outfield at Lodge corner, with the Lodge in the background. For this you'll need to get across the track at Lodge corner between races, and then you're stranded until the end of that session.
or:
3. Outfield at Knickerbrook chicane - there's a proper vantage point there...
or:
4. Infield from the bottom of Deer Leap, a nice shot of them coming around Lodge corner....

you may have to help me out with my new camera mate as im still getting to grips with it ;)

Kev, if you are ill as per the first NW meet, please do not post your symptoms on CA, yuk
Nice photos Muz :)
-
Oulton has some good spots for fence-free photos, as above, and also some good spots to actually follow the race, such as Cascades and Knickerbrook. Sadly, the best photo spot IMO which is the Britten's chicane is hopeless for following the race as it isn't even covered by the tannoy system :(
Has anyone tried photography from outfield at Old Hall corner? Another long trek but that might be worth pursuing. ;)

Don't let Fran see that one - death of a previously fine pair of Saleens ???
From Crash.net:
Sunday, 18th August 2002
Erdos and McKellar beat the rain at Oulton Park.
Tommy Erdos and Ian McKellar survived a dramatic round nine of the BRDC British GT Championship at Oulton Park this afternoon (Sunday 18 August) to win a race that was interrupted by a massive thunderstorm.
The race was halted and only re-started an hour and a half later after the debris from a six-car accident was cleared. In the second part, run over 30 minutes, it was the Saleen of Erdos/McKellar that held off the challenge of Rob Barff/Michael Caine (TVR Speed 12).
The race was only six laps old when the rain hit, leaving the section of track from Hill Top into Knickerbrook awash with water as car after car lost control.
The Saleens of Tom Herridge/Nathan Kinch and Mike Newton/Chris Maries were eliminated along with the Chrysler Viper of Steven Watson/Randolph Watkins, the GTO leading TVR Tuscan of Martin Short/Simon Pullan and the Ferrari 360 of Tim Mullen/Alan Simonsen.
''We came over the brow and the rain just dumped down. The cars lifted off the track on the water and I was sideways for 300 yards,'' said Mullen of the frightening accident. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.
Finally, 14 cars took the re-start on a wet track and it was the Lister Storm of Mike Jordan that hit trouble with a spin at Druids that cost two laps before Jordan could rejoin.
In the closing stages, the TVR got ever closer to the lead Saleen, but the margin of victory was still close to 10 seconds. ''That was a tough race for everyone,'' said Erdos. ''It was horrendous in the rain,'' he added.
Into a fine third in GT came the Steven Brady/Neil Cunningham Ultima, which caught and passed the Chrysler Viper of Peter Cook late in the race.
In the GTO category, several leading cars were eliminated in the multi-car accident when the rain arrived, and it was the Porsche 911GT3RS of Piers Masarati and Robin Liddell that swept to victory after a fierce battle with the similar car of Steve O’Rourke/Tim Sugden.
''To be honest, I had no idea where we were, but I realised that Tim was struggling with his wet tyres,'' said an elated Liddell. ''That was a really unbelievable race,'' added Masarati.
John Hartshorne and Piers Johnson turned in a fine drive to claim third in GTO in their TVR Tuscan R, while David and Godfrey Jones worked their Porsche ahead of the David Leslie/Tommy Rustad Ferrari late in the race to take fourth in GTO.

It was very cold today(and yesterday) but round 1 of the GT Championship was worth waiting for. The handicapper seems to have got the mix right,- 1 sec between the front 3 430's with a 997 1 sec further back in 4th. Pity the race was cut in time because of the accidents. Those coming on Monday bring warm clothing.
-
Weather forecast much improved for tomorrow - will still be wearing my thermals tho! ;D

Heavy snow here!

News from OP, Saturdays first round of the GT championship was eventful, luckily the drivers OK but the Ginetta NOT :o

Brilliant work by the marshalls there. One minute there's a car cartwheeling towards them, and they were running away, then Whumph. up it goes, and they run towards it and get on with sorting it out.
-
Thankfully no incidents today, very very cold and the odd flake of snow/hail as well. Great GT race with the Tech 9 lambo winning by less than a second.
Trying to defrost at the moment, will sort out the photos tonight.
Nice to see Kev and his dad, parked only 3 cars away, which was quite a coincidence.
I'm also the proud owner of a Tom Dunston badge ;D
-
Nice to see you again Jules ( sorry i didnt see you fran :'( )
it was a dam cold day and i was disappointed that the last VW cup race was red flagged as it started to hail heavy :( the Caddy van was providing some brilliant drifting and keeping the driver awake
just up loading my pics now :)

We missed the rendezvous by being on the wrong side of the track for the G50 race, and then had to get the vehicles round to the hairpin for the start of the GT race. But Fran spotted us during the G50 race ;)

Steady there Fran, why don't you just ask them nicely
On another subject, how the hell do I insert the photos then ???
-
On another subject, how the hell do I insert the photos then ???
Open a Photobucket account (it's free). Resize your shots to 800 pixels wide max, 640 wide seems to fit this site better. Upload your resized pics. Under each pic in your Photobucket account will be three or four links, copy & paste the bottom link for each pic into your CA post. It's easy once you get the hang of it - have two browser pages open at the same time, one with your Photobucket pics on it and one with your CA post, then you can easily flip from one to the other. ;)
-
Cheers Muz ;)
-
I think I have warmed up now, that was a cold Sunday!!! :o
Thank you to all those that dropped by the Team GCR, wear your badge with pride Jules!
Great shots there Muz, cracking shot of Tom in the G50 (was that you or Muz Jr?) sorry that I did not get the chance to see you. But great to see Rick, Piglet, and Kieth K again.
Tom had a couple of good races, 11th to 5th in the first race and was battling (from 11th on grid) for 5th (I think, got a bit excited :o) in the 2nd race, but a tap at Hisslops put him down to 9th. I think the commentaters enjoyed the "Tom Show"........
(If anybody is intrested to recive email newsletters about Tom and GCR race weekends, please PM me your email address)
Cadwell Park next (Ginetta Festival) and then Knockhill, bring yer wellies
-
....cracking shot of Tom in the G50 (was that you or Muz Jr?)....
That one was mine, Jr was busy keeping Muzette out of the lake during that race, but I'll see if he got any good ones ;)
When are the Cadwell & Knockhill races? - I fancy the Cadwell meeting as long as it doesn't clash with anything else we've already committed to ;D
-
Here you go Muz.

5-6 April. Cadwell Park (Ginetta Festival)
12-13 April. Knockhill (BGT/F3)

Hey Fran i too am shocked!
But if you find GCR and Tom some sponsers, I am sure there would be a passenger ride in the green G50 - I will even throw in a free air guitar lesson.
Actualy if any fellow CA's can find some sponsers, the same offer applies.

Fran :o im shocked at your choice of words dear lady :'(
Sorry Kev - I should have said "I wonder who you have to sh*g to do a lap in the GT40"!!! There may have been a misunderstanding of the words "get a ride"...
:P
As long as its female I don’t mind ::)
