My neighbour knocked on the door this evening and politely asked if I could help move his engine as he is going to rebuilt it.
Well, he has 2 Espaces, a petrol lawnmower and a small off-road go-cart.
So, no probs, I readily agreed.
I didn't expect this........................

That puts Rex's air raid siren to shame.

Ok, I will ask the obvious question
"What the f00k is he going to do with that?"
Landman

How about a Power Shower he can use in LM, with a hose all the way home :o

And I will ask the next obvious question. What is it from?

I won't give the game away just yet because there are some knowledgable peeps on here.
Suffice to say that the starter motor is bigger than my 2lts 6 cyclinder.

I'll guess at at Pratt & Whitney Wasp radial off of a B17
LM

The girl in the photo look scarred - not half as scarred as when Daddy fires the thing to life at 02:30 hrs on Sunday morning and the house falls down.

Looking at the twin collector rings (which ain't half gonna take some bashing out so they work) maybe a Brisstle Centaurus off a Sea Fury
Is my uneducated guess

Spelling a bit orf, but hit the nail on the head there mate.
Not a Sea Fury but a Blackburn Beverly 'Boxcar', RAF Transport Command. The engine also appeared in Constelations so there are loads of spares in Arizona and Nevada (I'm given to understand).
18 cyclinder Radial, a smidgin under 54ltrs. 2850hp.

OK Jerry
What is Paul going to do with it? Power a new line of dry cleaning establishments?

It's the new Spin Dryer Rick.
[Edit] Emsworth breads a few eccentrics now and then!!!.[/Edit]

the exhaust collector rings are going to be a bugger to source, they were difficult to get in the late seventies when I use to work on two Sea Furies at that time.
Side valve trickerie, all very Blitish. I've got some section drawings still somewhere from the war showing how it all worked.
Peter,
If you could lay your hands on them, I'm sure Paul would like to look at them.

Would he not be better off buying a running unit?
I remember when some one bought (long story) brought a jet engine they payed a couple a grand for it and it was a running unit.
But I can't wait till he starts it up for the first time, and even better, You can't moan about the noice as you helped him to move it in
Like the way he used the rolled system to move it in, very Egyptian roller system/ Used that when I had to move an old phone box. Simple but effective.
Tell him good luck

Neil,
He can't fit it in his garage and work on it, can't do it in the garden because of 'pikies' Oooops, non PC travelling vagrants with HIABS. So it will be going into his workshop down the road. No residents there >:D ;D ;D ;D

They were a wonderful engine, the Centaurus, but honestly I think he will have a devil >:D of a job with the collector rings....
How many of you can tell I'm jealous that he has one to play with then? :'(
The big problem is the air racing lads will have scoured the desert looking for Centaurus bits, I think they were the most powerful piston engine ever put in a single seater fighter weren't they (F.S?) and racing Sea Furies are amongst the best there have been.

EMSWORTH.....
Blomin eck.
Where's his workshop. I'd be interested in a nose.. Crime prevention advise and all that... or just community work stuff.....
Thats really going to piss the neighbours off when it gets going.

That puts Rex's air raid siren to shame.
Gauntlet laid... Next year we need a plane engine on a stand, or a jet powered Cavalier!

Fling a turbo on it. The compression's low enough for the valves not to trouble the pistons.
There is a way to turn a scrap turbo into an even more scrap turbo by turning it into a jet engine of sorts. IIRC much propane required (But my Sodium Chlorate experiments at the beginning of the weekend indicates my amateur status, both as a chemist and an engineer.)
That's one hell of a rebuild project. I'll bet he spends a LOT of time on ebay. And avoiding his wife.
