Stumbled across this today..............
Looks like a copy of the Festival of Speed for us Northerners
The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power,
Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire
Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th August 2008
www.pageantofpower.com
Tickets look a steep as though they are trying to cash in on the FOS popularity, with camping as an extra ::)
-
thats not cheap - IF i go ill go for the day as its only up the road ( well 20 mins away )
-
Looks OK, I might just have a trip over to that with Lady Steve. (It says something about shopping!)
-
:) :) Distance from my house " up north England " to Cholmondeley Castle - 216 miles ;D ;D ;D
It does look it might be well worth a visit though

It's 'up midlands' from here.
-
Think I may be able to drag tother half over the hill from Gods own county YORKSHIRE for this one :D :D
-
Up North?
Over west and up a bit from yere in Brumshire
Might have made a goodish venue for a Norf Shroppy meeting but they say they are a bit funny oop Cheshire, cheesey like!
And steep? I dunno, its costing me £25 to visit Silverstone for the Classic next month and there wont be many yellycopters to look at.
If I'm lucky there might be a flash in the sky from another P51 like last year, fine but no ceegar!
I might be on for this, more later after discussion with my financial director.
-
I am definiately up for this - boats being the big draw for me in this instance but the rest looks interesting too.
Its not far from Manc, but I might even camp overnight if there are a few others attending to make up a party!!
Just to clarify - is this one of those instances where its pronounced "chumley" or is it really "chol-mond-ley"? Wouldnt want to appear foolish!! ???
F
-
Fran
Mr Chumley answers your question in the first para!
"A unique event in an historic setting. The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power is a weekend-long celebration of the very best in historic sports and racing cars, historic motorcycles, classic boats and powerboats and helicopters. It all takes place in the grounds of glorious Cholmondeley Castle (pronounced Chumley) situated on the A49, in the rolling pastures of south Cheshire, mid-way between Whitchurch and Chester."
Seems a good event to me
p'raps!
-
Mr Chumley answers your question in the first para!
As an honorary "bloke" of course I didnt read the details, I just looked at the pictures!! :-\
F
-
Sorright Fran!!!
I never read it right first off neither!
If its to be FOS stuff does that mean you'll be in seams and sussies then? I might not be able to keep me 'ands orf...
>:D
Or I might just faint from the heat...
-

I used to live a few miles from there.

Still not having read the detail, I havent found out if its a "dress up" event.... could just go for it anyway! Some good solid foundation wear (in that strange "fleshtone" colour) suit you alright Bill?
F
-
I used to live a few miles from there.
Del
Maybe you should come up and kick over the old traces Del!
-
Hmmm...I've obviously still got PC problems. The first time I looked at this thread, it ended with Fran's 'Chumley' question. Next time I looked, there were 2 or 3 responses before mine!! Sorry for the repeat answer.
@Fran - I'll probably be half way there - in Salop - that weekend
Del

I'll probably be half way there - in Salop - that weekend
Ohh - has the Salop meet been fixed for that date then? I thought was still to be decided between the two dates?
Or are you in Salop on other business!
F
-
@Fran
The Salop meet date is stilll up for debate, but much depends upon when Delboy is there, as this was in part his idea in the first place! I'll post a poll on that thread in due course. :)
-
I'll post a poll on that thread in due course. :)
Okey dokes!
-
Debs is correct - I'd forgotten the Salop meet was yet to be fixed.
Maybe I can do both weekends - I'll check with Mrs D if she wants a week away in the 'van. Possibly the first w/e in Salop, then a few days 'kicking over the old traces', then the FOS.

Except that the alternative dates for the Salop meet were the FOS weekend or the one after Del. The first weekend in August is Spa weekend so is a total no-no for me.

shopping wise you can drop your wife off in Chester city centre where she can have hours of fun shopping while you head East (i think) out of Chester to the show! will only be 20mins drive from Town. You could take her to Cheshire oaks tho which is a couple of junctions down the M53 away from Chester or if its open a HUGE new shopping complex in Wrexham - thats in wales so i wouldn't bother tho

It came third from memory. ??? Ueno Clinic won that year, I remember I was wearing a black binbag as it crossed the line.

Is there any plan for meeting up for a swift half on Sunday (or Saturday night in the campsite for those who are staying overnight)?
F
-
I'm there all day Sat and Sun but not staying overnight. So any time is OK for me.
-
Love the way that 2004 and 2005 comes before 2003!
-
I'm there all day Sat and Sun but not staying overnight. So any time is OK for me.
Lets try for 1 p.m. (there is a lunch break for the cars/bikes) at the Pageant Bar which is near the bridge (according to the site plan).
F
-
Sounds OK, 1pm Sunday at the bar. If not I'll be with the quattro mob by the circuit.
-
Would that I could but join ye merry japesters oop north
but
Sattiday I have orders to "garden"!
Or else
and on Sunday I will be down in deepest white stilletto country helping Garyfrogeye and Toby turn several bucketloads of bits into a rather respectable Frogeye racer
But at some time in the day I will raise a glass to absent friends*
*or a can, I'm proud but not daft... ;)
-
Did look for you Fran in between watching the Huey helicopter but didn't spot you. Ben was looking as well, but his attention span is a bit short !!
-
I was watching the chopper at 1 too, but had a scout round the bar afterwards and found no-one!
I came past the Audi club pitch early'ish but everyone was zipped into the gazebo and I didnt see your car there anyway Gordon. When I came past again after the boat race finished everyone was upped and gone!
Was a great day, endless chances to get run over by exotic machinery in the paddock area!!
Some lovely cars, bikes and boats. I had front row seat the for the boat crash at the end - luckily no-one hurt but some pretty extensive damage to both boats - one appeared to be sinking quite fast!
One of the highlights was the cup cake stand.. yummmy! :P
Sorry not to have spotted any of the CA'ers, but I would certainly go again next year.
Anyone know what happened to the Le Mans Bentey - saw it go out, but it never came back again, not even on the back of a truck!
F
P.S. I have simply got to look into SatNav - I got lost on the way there (accident closed road) and on the way home again (poor sign reading on my part).
-
Mine was the black one at the front of the tent alongside the red and white quatros. As we'd all been there for two days we left after the track action finished, but what a fab couple of days.
I got Derek Bell to sign a picture of himself from 1968, he was gobsmacked to say the least and we ended up having a good chat !!
Best car for me was the Napier Bently, what an awesome sight on full song especially away from the start !!
Sorry to have missed you , I think we must have passed going back and to looking at the Huey!!
-
Mine was the black one at the front of the tent
Ohh - I thought yours was a kinda dark burgundy colour... you must have been there after all - there were 2 black ones when I came by first time.
Derek Bell seemed to have a pretty big grin on his face every time I saw him! Do you know who "Lorina McLaughlin" is? She was driving the ex-Schumacher Benetton. I have googled and found references to her racing F1 historics, but did she drive when she was younger?
There were certainly some weird and wonderful machines there.
F
-
No I'd not come across her before, so not sure what her history is.
This was mine by the gazebo....

Sorry to have missed you all, good event and some cracking motors. I was not there for too long as family stuff got in the way, the choppers reminded me of this.....http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz3Cc7wlfkI&feature=related
Any one going to the Gold cup at OP over the bank holiday weekend?
