Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Lord Pig-Pen on October 16, 2008, 09:52:02 pm Just checked LD Lines. They are quoting £155, which is £58 more than I paid last year.

Barstewards!!! Might try Transmanche Newhaven to Dieppe again. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Andy on October 19, 2008, 04:25:08 pm PP, I think the dates are anounced at the end of month or early November, the price may hike up when they know.
Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: landman on October 19, 2008, 04:27:48 pm From the prices given on Britanny Ferries I reckon they already know.
Cannot seem to get a price out of Transmanche/LD Lines yet. Landman Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: tn*c on October 19, 2008, 05:36:04 pm I found them cheaper for the week of the 13th-14th, then the 20th-21st or the 6th-7th . Looks like we will stay and extra night as coming back on Tuesday after saves another £100!
Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Lord Pig-Pen on October 19, 2008, 08:22:24 pm We have been thinking about going over earlier and having a few days exploring before getting to camp on Monday morning. We came back Tuesday afternoon this year and will do the same again next year, maybe even wednesday.
We will book as soon as dates are released. PP Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Barry on October 23, 2008, 06:46:37 pm For anybody who doesn't like the sardine tin conditions on speed ferries, Sea France are offering fares at £24 each way that week at the moment.
Dover/Calais 0800 out tuesday, 1515 back monday = £48 ;D And thats with a roof load. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Steve Pyro on October 23, 2008, 06:52:32 pm Just booked my ferry - Speedferries - 10th @ 08:00 and 15th @ 18:45 = £84 now (paid £56 last year ::) )
Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Martini...LB on October 23, 2008, 10:58:46 pm Bloody cheap, I will be looking at £150 - £190+ for 1 and car from Guernsey to St Malo, under two hours crossing time.
Mind you for the same travel time and same company, Condor, I would pay between £260 and £380+ to UK and the lower price is very rare. How do they work that out then? >Martini... Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Barry on October 23, 2008, 11:09:31 pm With the lower tax rates in the Channel Islands they obviously think that you can afford the higher prices Martin. ;);D ;D

Surely you should be sailing from Jersey Martin?? Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Martini...LB on October 24, 2008, 02:20:44 pm Ease up you guys, not easy for us millionaires (as all Guernsey residents are) big problems over here at the moment as we do not have any banker protection for money invested. A lot of people had money in Landisbanki over here and lost the lot, well not quite, they have been offered a starter of 30%. Even the major banks do not protect our money, bit strange don't you think. Mine is all under the bed, mind you I have to use a ladder to get on it. ;D
Barry I was pointing out the difference in cost for basically the same trip, also you can get very cheap passenger day returns now and again, people pop over and buy a few thousand fags on their return from the duty free (on the boat) and actually make money after selling them! Milk is going up to 98p a litre, mind you that is Golden Guernsey milk. There is an ad on the tv at the moment for whisky which is cheaper than over here and we are duty free(?) >Martini... ££ Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: smokie on October 24, 2008, 03:02:04 pm So, just to digress, why should I bail out people who invested in the Icelandic banks? They weren't about to share any of their additional interest with me at any time were they?
Sorry, thread hijack not intended - rant over. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Lazy B'stard on October 24, 2008, 04:59:39 pm Been looking into prices this morning- good ol Brittany Turpin living up to its reputation I see :o

Seemed like too good a price to turn down. Oh come on Nick, make it low key, travel and camp with someone else (us for example) and it won't cost you anything near 400 quid. We wouldn't even mind if you blew the campsite up on Sunday night ::) Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Lorry on October 25, 2008, 11:55:16 pm If I take a week away, and spend £4 - 500, then the present Mrs Liv will have my guts for garters. Just tell her that its not a question of whether you go, its a question of whether you come back, but I'd assess the risks first, as she might change the locksAnd £50 for a ferry, that take me back - to about 1980 Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Bob U on October 30, 2008, 01:49:49 pm The pricing structure of P&O is a stange one indeed. These are the quotes they have given me this morning. All are for the same ferry and return fares.
My car (Landy Disco) with 4 occupants .... £74 My car + a trailer less than the height and length of the car .... £174. Van. same height but less than the length of car and trailer combined .... £274. There dosen't seem to be any logic to any of the prices compared to the different combinations. The only difference is that the van would have only two occupants. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Robbo SPS on November 05, 2008, 01:27:35 am Just spent £1650 on LD Lines...............
Thats £1000 cheaper than P&O from 3 years ago. Or £600 cheaper than 2 years ago on Brittany Fisheries from Poole. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Truck on November 05, 2008, 01:51:44 am Just spent £1650 on LD Lines............... I'm £400 lighter. By getting in a couple of hours earlier than you, I probably cost you £50.Thats £1000 cheaper than P&O from 3 years ago. Or £600 cheaper than 2 years ago on Brittany Fisheries from Poole. For the Caravan, Dover Calais isn't much cheaper Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Jules G on November 05, 2008, 11:02:23 am Booked Speedferries, out on the 10th back on the 15th.

I'm not casting asparagus on your girlfriend Kev, but has she the faintest idea what she's letting herself in for? Maybe you should get her tpo read my article on toilets in the 08 CA Guide to give her a clue as to what is in store for her. Anyway, we've had the girls-yes-or-no discussion on here many times. All I can say is I've done it once, in 1989, and I'll never ever do it again. It's fine to meet up with girls down there like the fabulous Melans but Team Zarse is and always will be a chick-free club. What she really means is vodka on a drip - plus somewhere to plug in her hairdryer, some privacy, no mud/dust as applicable, a fluffy matress, a sweet-smelling private bog/shower, no noise during the night, a classy restaurant etc etc - and she'll be fine. The best advice is to nip it in the bud before it becomes an issue. The first time it gets mentioned and the nswer is a flat NO. Or better still - bear this in mind for the next girlfriend - is to tell her about LM when you first date, explain how it is a BOYS weekend only and how much it means to you. Set her straight at the start and you won't go wrong. Now you're going to have to grow a pair and tell her it's out of the question; she'll respect you for it ultiately. Sh*t, shower, shave and breakfast before you get off the boat and only 120 miles on garlic side before we hit La Sarthe. Once all the funs over you have 10 hours R&R on the boat back to roast beef land...honest chaps its the way to go!! :)
P.S. In my humble opinion ;) Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Kev_mk3 on November 07, 2008, 12:32:35 am well the gf wants to come - i nearly had a heart attack when she asked to come so god knows what ill book Oh God, no... taking women with your group to LM is generally a disaster. Hit the nail on the head, but I prefer a cr*p, croissant, coffee and CalvadosIts the same time for me via Dover or Portsmouth, so the option of a few hours in the bar means there are no options. Plus Dover is expensive for caravans, so there's not much of a saving, or so I kid myself Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Nordic on November 07, 2008, 10:21:34 am well the gf wants to come - i nearly had a heart attack when she asked to come so god knows what ill book Oh God, no... taking women with your group to LM is generally a disaster. I have to disagree with Andy Z. there is nothing better than seeing some bouncy fair maiden trotting of to the loo, bog role in hand. I am pretty sure the women concerned feel alot better knowing that she is the focus of so much man attention too. So bring her along Kev, believe me you wont regret it. Title: Re: Ferry booked for 2009 pilgrimage Post by: Jules G on November 07, 2008, 06:47:15 pm Back on track.......... A community announcement
I was going to amend my Speedferries booking this afternoon and the booking system is unavailable. The following has been posted by their CEO....... Latest Travel News 7 November 2008 09:00 Arrest of SpeedOne by the Port Authorities in Boulogne Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 17:00 UK time, the Port authorities of Boulogne arrested SpeedFerries’ SpeedOne during its turnaround. The arrest was made on the basis of SpeedFerries Limited’s debts to the port in relation to port dues and taxes. The arrest was totally unexpected, as the authorities had given written confirmation that no legal steps would be taken prior to a meeting planned for 10:00 today. At this meeting SpeedFerries in consultation with its bankers and financial advisors, were to present a proposal for a resolution of the issues relating to outstanding dues and taxes, as well as disputes with the Port regarding: A) Substantial counterclaims towards the Port which have been entirely ignored by the French authorities, and B) Serious competition and discriminatory issues in relation to the Port’s dealings with a French ferry operator preparing to start-up a Dover-Boulogne service. The authorities informed the SpeedFerries staff on site that the arrest was carried out despite the written agreement, as “this would strengthen the negotiating position of the Port against SpeedFerries”. As the actions of the Boulogne Port authorities are now proven to be unpredictable and inconsistent with their given guarantees, SpeedFerries finds itself in a position where it is unable to inform its customers, employees or business partners, of a firm date for the resumption of services. The company deeply regrets this situation and asks everyone affected to accept our sincere apologies. Further statements will be issued when more information of substance becomes available. Quote SpeedFerries has long believed it has faced unfair competition from other operators on the highly competitive short straits market between England and France and said it had planned to raise at yesterday’s meeting “serious competition and discriminatory issues” about the port’s behaviour towards LD Lines, a French operator planning to start a rival Dover-Boulogne service.
