Kev i know your up on your vauxhalls so heres my question.
I've bought a mk4 astra 2.2 sri and I've heard something about the airbox being restricted and being able to de-restrict it,any ideas on how its done???

EASY!
take the air box out of the engine bay and open it up. You will see a pipe in the bottom of each half of the airbox. Rip it out and job done ;) clean the panel filter or get a piper x, Courtney ( they are made by piper x ), k & n panel filter - Job done!
next up is the Vectra C intake mod ;)
see here -

click this link and let me know if it works - should sort out the Vectra C intake pipe :)

Cheers Kev ;D
Vectra intake pipe, pipersross filter, irmscher grill ordered and GSI front bumper in the shed waiting on little brother fitting it. Possibly going to get it re-mapped soon aswell as it feels a bit flat below 3500/4000 revs.

bumpers easy to fit, they do feel flat but hit 4k they pick up. do you know of the 2.2 timing chain issues?
-
No,tell me more.
-
i dont know to much but the 2.2 engines suffered from the chains giving way on them. late ones had no issues as there was a recall on them i believe
2.2 - Oil spray on timing chain - check that this has been done on recall. Early models suffered failure of the timing chain due to the spray nozzle being too small.
-
In my experience with chains, if it sounds like a skeleton having a w**k in a filing cabinet, the chain needs looking at.

Mine is an 2004 model so hopefully it has been seen to but i will phone vauxhall and see if they can tell me.

Mike. If the car has been the subjest of an official recall, the VIN will be recorded with Vauxhall as having the work completed.

Called the original vauxhall dealer that sold the car new today and the car was checked before it was sold and everythig was fine. But they told me something that didnt show up when i did a history check with the RAC before i bought it. 6 months ago they had the car in for a new rear bumper and boot lid after someone ran into it at a junction :-\ They thought it wouldnt show up as it was repaired cash in hand and not through the insurance but there was nothing to worry about as the damage was very light.
Another question for Kev now,im trying to free up a few extra horses under the bonet but dont want it to sound like a corvette going down the pit lane at LM. Will a sports cat sound ok??? Its got the twin Irmscher back box on it already and i dont really want to change it. Its booked in for a re-map but the mechanic has told me to do all the other mods first so he can set it up to suit them.

well least you know bout the boot now!
as for the power side of things if you want power and noise you could get a remus race tube but be warned there not quite and may get on your nerves! sports cat will help or just get a decat and swap it over for your mot like me  you will notice a change in response and it will help mpg i found as the engines not working as hard.
you looking to spend money on the car or do it as cheap as possible - if the 1st one get a full cat back exhaust :)
also i do recommend these -

Cheers Kev.
Im trying not to spend a fortune on the car like i normally do ::)
Im just after the extra power that the basics will give me,air filter, exhaust, engine management etc but i want it to stay reasonably quiet and comefey to drive and most of all stay reliable.
