Absolutely top pics the best one has got to be Eric and his Hummer. Shame about BMW and the X3 in the dakar as well with the amount BM invested in doing it this year just to be asked to leave (rightly so) after the fifth stage.

My sort of racing - unsurprisingly following it with interest on Eurosport and on line!  Some stunning pictures there.  Although the economic climate isn't helping (which is why we couldn't do it this March, although the event is now postponed to October), aiming to have a crack at the Classic Paris-Dakar with a mate next year http://www.heroeslegend.com/page-1-1-en.html (http://www.heroeslegend.com/page-1-1-en.html)

Shame indeed, but you are allowed to miss 4 consecutive waypoints on a leg before automatic disqualification - he went round the dunes scetion on Stage 6 because his engine was overheating and when you miss 9 on the trot the result is pretty much a foregone conclusion.....and so it proved to be.

Oh bugger, El Matador has crashed, news of the Dakar Web Site.

"Confirmation that Carlos Sainz has abandoned the race!

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz and his French co-pilot Michel Perin have just arrived by helicopter at the bivouac in Fiambala, thus confirming the withdrawal of Volkswagen Race Touareg No. 301, leader of the general standings until the start of the 12th stage this morning."

At least one BMW X3 (privately own) is still going even if he did manage to roll it (good lad ; your not trying hard enough unless you have a little spill)  ;D ;D ;D

Saw the footage a few minutes ago, there was a 4m ravine which (as they say, I'm no expert) wasn't noted correctly in the roadbook. Completly wrecked car, and Sainz trying to dig it out and continue.  ::)
