Do I take it that the traditional Club Arnage Gathering is taking place at the usual 9pm on the Saturday night?
Presume everyone will be in attendance. I still remember the early days with tea towels on the head!
-
There was a discussion last year about swapping to the Guinness Bar.
Update/decision eagerly awaited.

The poo bar's become a bit of a dead duck to be honest. :( The original idea, and Steve will probably remember this, was so that CAers could get acquainted with each other - oh the novelty!! Before that we were all just silly names on the net.
Well, it seems that we all now know each other and we party together in the run up to saturday night too, so the poo bar meeting has lost it's initial purpose. The glory years were 03-06 IMO. Last year things were pretty flat by comparison, we wandered off into the guinness tent up the road, and the rest is history.
This year, we'll be watching The Stranglers, then some racing, before later heading back for a pint or ten of the black stuff. ;D

Reckon I'll join you for that. I'll be good to see JJB rattling the bass again (last saw them in 1982)

I think that there might be a motor race somewhere in the area.
Might have a look at that to see if it's of any intrest ;)

Completely agree Andy - it's degenerated a bit over recent years. I just wondered where to meet everyone this year as judging by the posts on here folks are all over the place. Is the Guiness bar in "Le Village" and this may be a stupid question but do they serve anything other than Guiness?
-
Personally, I enjoyed the bar we used for the Classic as I could watch the race the same time (the Courbe in the village). Bizarre idea, I realise....
-
The Guinness bar did actually run out of Guinness last year!
I don't know when exactly but our second visit was on Sunday morning about 11 and it had gone by then!
From memory they also had Harp Bitter and a cider or Harp Cider and a bitter. Can't remember which.
jd
PS If it's a goer, what time?
-
I remember looking at that motor race thingy last year after wandering away from the somewhat muted meet at the poobar
It seemed a little flat too but as the car type stuff was driving around slowly (presumably in order not to wake up the tired old Brits too soon) the only entertainment I saw was a yellow ammurican sporty car thing falling off its newly fitted wheel...
which was unusual
Then back to a very flat meeting event at the poo bar which was still being drawn out too thinly by a few stragglers
I'm in favour of a "Stranglers/GuinnessBar-Drinking-Dry" event this year, myself
>:D

Greetings M'lord,
Yes I do recall that one My first where i met you. I agree the poo bar has lost it's glory. Not much choice in the old days.
I do like the idea of a 9pm meet but agree a different location. Tremies suonds interesting to me.

Ahh those were the days Phil.
If we find out what time the Stranglers are playing what about meeting up an hour before at Le Bar du Guiness then moseying over for a return later?
I do intend watching that motor race thing tho!!!
-
At DelBoy's very good suggestion I've added a poll to this thread to see if we can reach some sort of consensus over a venue for a Saturday night meet-up or indeed if one takes place at all. I've suggested 9pm but if anyone has a preference for an earlier time let us all know.

i don't really mind where we drink as long as there is a good atmosphere
last year I didn't have the fun i expected at the Poo bar so ended up watching the race
watching a bit of Stranglers does not sound bad at all by the way so for now i will vote for that option
-
The Stranglers are a complete turn off for me. I don't mind meeting people, I don't mind the cars (understatement of the year), but I'm certainly not going to a music festival. How far away from the band is the bar?
-
I'll second that - Allthough I like their music I go to Le Mans to see the race and meet other CA-ers
The fact that there will be no Friday nite DfH bash this year - or did I miss something - will probably make the Poo bar gathering more important then as it has been in the last 2 years - as a meeting point for all of us. But I do not mind to change location - BTW where exactly are the Guiness and the Courbe bar?
As I need to put info about our gathering in the guide I suggest we close the poll end of next sunday (23rd May) so I can eventually draw a map of the new chosen location
Cheers

The Courbe is the place we met at the Classic, Werner - just by the pit exit, below the Dunlop bridge in the village. A good view of the track (if catch-fencing bound) from the banking by the bar.
Edit : Don't know where the Guiness bar is though?
-
i believe the band is just on the other side of the dunlop bridge, at least the venue was there 2 years ago

Thanks Termie, now I know - I just never knew the name "The Courbe". IMHO this is the perfect location for a CA meet, more spacious than the place we had last year at the poo bar, you can drink, talk to other CA-ers and watch the race, all at the same time - and for those who really need to visit the concert it's just a short walk over the Dunlop bridge to the stage. I'll vote for it!
-
It's got my vote as well.
-
i will try to change my vote as well :)
edit: not possible... ah well, it will be fine

Thanks Tom - I've just mad use of it.

Courbe Bar gets my vote as well, tired of either lugging bottles of champagne to the poo bar, or trying to get a mortgage to buy one there.

same here
thanks!

Stranglers?
not musically my scene, maybe more like RexonaPeeyanna for me
get me a Beatles/Clapton Wilberries concert and I'd forget the noisy cars
So
Which side of the track is the Courbe?
Is it near the new supersexy Megawelcome bar that looks down into the pits from above the exit lane?
The Guinness bar I seem to recall was downhill in the village from the Poo Bar, am I wrong, was I pididdled at the time?
I votes "notatthePooBar"
-
Inside, Bill. I expect you know it, just not its name. Go through the tunnel from the main exit and turn immediately left. There it is. There is also a hatch selling snacks and another doing full meals. Another couple of things in its favour : 1) Good loos right next door 2) the surrounding area is open to all so bringing your own booze isn't the smuggling operation it always seemed to be a the 'poo bar.
-
Courbe bar is fine with me, I'll try to make it there but 9pm is a bit early for me, so will join in later.
-
The Guiness bar was at the top of the village on the inner track at the right, however its not always the Guiness bar, large roundish with wooden floor , it wasnt in 2006. However it was really rocking last year.
Is the Courbe bar the one diagonally opposite and between 2 buildings just up from the toilets.
I'll be at the Guiness bar after the stranglers anyway (which are on the other side of the track well out of earshot.
-
The Guiness bar was fantastic last year. Most of Saturday afternoon and evening was spent in there and it was, as Redstu said, ROCKING ;D >:D
I seem to recall Steve Z making a spectacular entrance to the dancefloor in a bin, a photographer getting Zarsed and rather alot of nudity and foolish behaviour. Marvelous!
-
"onnacountofnot" wanting the poobar again I voted for the Courbe Bar
But some of youse chappses and chapsesess better be responsible for steering me there
Debs I dont THINK I ever did come into the track from there, I've always "slept" in track in the past
I suppose this is where the disguised Patriot Missiles are parked outside is it?
Any road up, nine at the Courbe t'shall be...

You Stu and a goodly number of others, including the Zarses, will be at the Guinness tent past Strangulation! Wonder if the Meninblack will put in an appearnace?
You're right, the Guinness Bar was certainly pumping last year, do you remember the pervert/rucksack shennanigans?
-
I do remember the pervert/rucksack incident but wont be disclosing any details on here >:D
I also remember Claire kicking that drunk twat in the nuts when he tried to lift her bag ;D ;D
-
I too voted for Coube but like Bill will a need a guide.

The CA Guide perchance ?
-
Hi all,
I wait for the outcome of the vote (deadline sunday midnite) and will put the new location inc. a description how to get there and a map in the 2009 CA Guide.
The guide will be ready for download on Tuesday, 2nd June late evening
Cheers

I'll leave my vote in the sytem as-is but reserve the right (God given - Bill taken) to leave any one place for purposes of upchucking, perddiddling or generally getting in with the wrong crowd and turning up in any other such place and havin' a larf!
we ARE going for the party arent we?
(It must be soon, the not go-ers have started asking us to keep the noise down. And to think I was in severe danger of being in their ranks and sympathising... Hush)
-
Right, it's the Courbe Bar for me!
-
Okay, so I will publsih the Courbe Bar in the Guide
-
Don't wanna sound too daft here, but wasn't the PooBar in 2005 what you call now the Courbe Bar?
Never really understood why the PooBar moved to the middle section after that, guess it had to do with the "Nouveau Village"?
-
Where on earth is the Courbe Bar?

This is a cunning plan to make you download the Ca guide for this year ;)
-
Listen very carefully, as I will say this only wurnse.
Come into the circuit via the main entrance. Go under the tunnel to the middle of the circuit. On exiting, turn left. It is the bright red building by the track side. From memory, it has a big sign on top saying La Courbe, but this may be my memory playing up of course.
-
Nice one Deb :)
-
Ta Deb, I will download the guide as well of course.
Having thought that I was not going to make it this year, I am VERY excited now especially as I will be able to show my son the sights!
