Right,i've left it late enough.
Where are we all getting our euros this year???
-
Europe... ;D
-
Europe... ;D
Will I find that on my local high street? ::)
-
Not for as long as Gordon Brown is in charge :)
-
I went into Thomas Crook today, cos i only wanted a couple of hundred Euros they quoted me a rate of 1.06, so i walked out! The rate is on the way up slightly, so i'll see what happens at my bank, the post office and M&S.
-
The Mrs got some at at a Bureau de Change last week, and got €1.05 and a £3 commission.
Todays paper says €1.09, so its rising, but look out for the extra charge
-
The Post Office appears the best option. (by experience)

I wish I got commission for these people, the times I've recommended them.

Currently offering 1.1255, no commission. You'd be hard pushed to better that. Only problem may be minimum order is £300.
I've used them before and am using them again (next month) for dollars.

But it also seems to take them 10 days to deliver! - We'll be in France by then!
I'm with Leftie, the PO online rates are pretty good (Just checked - 1.1096), no commission, and no delivery charge for £500+ AND they deliver NEXT WORKING DAY. ;D
-
I often use Travelex online - no commission, guaranteed rates, and you pick up at a Travelex desk of your choice (at many ferry ports, Eurotunnel terminal etc - there's even one at Ashford Truck Stop, which was a laugh last year - ours was the only car in the place and turned a few heads). Currently offering €1.1082 to the £. Don't think there's a minimum order either (well, unless it's £50 or something). www.travelex.co.uk.

Never had that problem - you tell them what day you want it delivered and that's the day your money arrives.

Also if it is of any help to anyone, Which Magazine did an article on currency exchange this month.
The article can be viewed online if it helps Clicki Ici (http://www.which.co.uk/advice/how-to-cut-the-cost-of-your-holiday/exchanging-currency/index.jsp)
They changed up both Euros and Dollars, plus general advice on using cards etc.

I know we're funny foreigners, but we both get our pensions paid in Sterling. We have a Nationwide account - and if we use a cash machine over here to draw euros on it, we get the BANK rate applicable on that day and time. Not the tourist rate, not some funny number, but the rate quoted on the Foreign Exchange sites - and no charges, natch. Anyone with a Nationwide account might consider this as their cheapest option.
When we lived in Kent, Termie found the Post Office was the best way to get a dollop of euros at a good rate. That may or may not be true today. She generally had to give a day or two's notice - but the PO was very obliging.

Nice, proves my point too (no delivery cost!) :)

Mr Termite wrote about Nationwide and the Post Office.
All of it true, all of it top advice.................and it's what I do! ;D
-
Took the Nationwide route, it works!!!
Drew €100 out in France on Saturday as a test.
Exchanges closed at €1.1392 to the £ on Friday afternoon.
Exchanges closed at €1.1602 to the £ on Monday afternoon.
Actual rate I got €1.1540.
No other charges.

Probably going to be last minute dash to PO then as usual ::)
-
I'll hold on as late as possible then visit the PO as usual.
-
The dollar has nosedived a bit today after a few days relentlessly climbing. I think it's dollar weakness rather than pound strength, so Euro may be holding up.
-
I was clearing out some old paperwork last night and came across something that had the exchange rate from 2007 on it....... 1.40 :'(
-
I was in Tesco last night m there rate board showed a comparison vs others , not suprisingly they were top , I think sainsburys also came close but the post office was 1 or 2 euros adrift.
-
I hope you mean EuroCents!

I find this works excellently and really do recommend it.

Looks like a last minute dash to the post office after work for me tomorow ::)
-
The Euro cash machine at HSBC is giving out at 1.0965. No commision or charges.

yes , minor error! , However I've since checked Tesco vs the PO and the PO were better! seems to be about 1.11 .

Reuters says "The pound hit a two-week low against the euro after the resignation of more senior ministers"
For sure, the $ has slipped by quite a few cents for forward purchasing.
So the beer will cost a bit more - won't spoil the fun will it!!
-
Why don't you all just get them from the local ATM machine? Changing money is so 2001, or just change to the euro completely, it will not harm your bank accounts if you would do so! Hurting your bank account is what your politicians are good in!!! ;D

1.0607 at the post office. 215 euros for £202.70 >:( >:( >:(

I use the same Ian.
Just to warn you hough, they wrote rcentl to say that as Visa charge them for each transaction they are gong to start to pass that charge onto customers, which IIRC was 0.75%. By my reckoning that is still better deal than exchanging.
It also means you have added security as you can just take out as little as you feel comfortable carrying!

The PO used to quiet good, only knocking off 2 or 3 cents from the bank rate.
Now it's 6 or 7. Greedy. No commission my ar*e.
After using them for about 15 years I have voted with my wallet and gone eslewhere.

If I remember correctly, they said that they were not going to charge it if you were drawing money in certain countries. All EEC countries being the important one for us.

I'll double check when get home. Mrs Chenet is pretty efficient at filing that type of thing!

I believe the PO use two different exchange rates, one for over the counter sales and one for online sales, the online rate has been pretty competitive whenever I've checked, and if you order over £500 you get free next day delivery to home or nominated Post Office.
I ordered mine from PO online on 2nd June at 1.1231 €/£, and received it next day - no hassle, well happy :)
Notice today's online rate has dropped back to 1.0934, so happier still I did it when I did ;D
