Take your crazy friends, and leave the Wife at home ::) >:D
-
Point taken but thats part of the deal the wife enjoys the racing as much and thats part of the deal
so any advice regarding getting there
-
Well I wouldn't recommend swimming ;D
-
and in all seriousness - I've not attended Sebring as yet - the people you need to speak to are probably Paddy, Doris, Mark (JP Chenet), Andy Zarse and I'm sure there's a few others as well.....
I'm told its a hell of an experience, I just haven't quite managed to ever find the funds.....
-
Hi thanks for that if any of the above could help i would be very gratefull
after missing the last two le mans the first two since 88 the passion is once again aroused
how good did that aston martin sound eh

If you've got the budget - rent an RV and stay on the track ,thats were all the fun is, or there's a lot of hotels/motels in Sebring - Sheraton chateau elan is right on turn 7! (you can watch the race on turn 7 without having to pay track admission!!) but i'm sure they book up quick. for $10 i'll tell you where the audi team stay ;)
ok here it is for free......Inn on the lakes hotel.
-
great big thanks for that info
you sure the audi team will get there next year
-
I managed to make it over in 2006 .. mainly thanks to the generosity of several fine members on here as I couldn't have made it without a few freebies ;O)
You won't regret it, it's an incredible experience .. although I'm still mentally scarred and undergoing therapy for some of the things I saw in Green Park on the Friday night ;)

Amazing Randy from Turn 10 here.
Bring youre wife,no problems there.
Rent the rv,its your coolest/driest option.
Park in Turn 10 and party with us.
We do have references.

I went to Sebring in 2008, and I'm hoping to find travel companions to get back there over in 2010.
We took a flight to Tampa, drove to Sebring and stayed in a motel 10 minutes from the track. Payed way too much for what it was, but as we only booked two weeks in advance, it was the best we could find over there (friend of mine drove the race, and only got confirmed that late, that's why we booked so late).
Sebring is a great track, always a nice race, a great atmosphere and great to take pictures (even without credentials). Since 2007 I also went there for the ALMS testdays (in combination with the Daytona 24hrs).

We do have references.
Yes you do Randy, and they're terrible ones ;)
-
I am going next year for definate. Sounds like jolly good fun!!

Dunno if you'd survive this one, mate! ;)
We're very carefully planning to combine it with a few days in Austin TX, but it all depends on the finances :-\

leave the Wife at home ::) >:D
Not if you want to live.
-
Not going next year because my company has changed our holidays to run April - March, will probably do Petit later in the year with friends from Canada... :-)

Totally agree Termie, my boyfriend went to the TT and left me behind so i went to LM and had a far better time, then dumped him ;D

gaz, as far as my racing calender is concerned, it's a must. My plans for 2010 are pretty much nailed already with the exception of waiting for the flights to be at their cheapest.
The racing is better in my mind as it's a lot shorter track than Le Mans, so you are seeing cars all the time and within half an hour of the start there are a total mix of the different classes all around the track so lots more overtaking.
Viewing is superb, with many areas having catch fencing no higher than your waist while you are only 15 feet from the track.
The paddock is open to everyone, all the time, and IIRC everyone can go on the starting straight up to one hour before the start of the race. On Friday lunchtime, ALL the drivers (including some very special ones from Turn 10) take part in an autograph session in the paddock.
Ice is readily available at the track but is cheaper at the supermarkets or liquor stores. Or the self service ice machine we found by the petrol station last year was evn cheaper!
Having been in a tent and in an RV, I'd definatley say the RV is the way to go. Rick Cutler hired one for a very reasonable deal last year. I believe it was from Cruise America in Orlando. Couple of tips, they won't let you hire the camper the same day you land in Orlando, and don't go for their bedding hire option, it's cheaper to buy a duvet/sleeping bag and throw it away.
As for where to camp, there are purchasable spots on the home straight and through corner 1 with fantastic views off the roof, but they are circa $400 I think. A standard RV pass for Green Park is something like $80. If you go for that option, I'd head towards Turn 10, where you won't find a better body of men to share your racing experience with.
How long is it until March??
As for the Aston, I pleaded with Dave Richards to take it to Sebring and all he said was "we'll see", but he did promise he'd be back at Le Mans with them next year! :D

wow, you sound just like Dave Richards... >:D

hmmm, looking so forward to Sebring again :)
when is UK mothersday 2010? :-X
-
I don't know, but this coming weekend I will be at home for Father's Day for the first time in 9 years!! ;)
-
That's great to hear that you will be home with the little ones (I guess they are pretty well grown up now though), JP. I know you will have a great time with them. I may be able to make the 2010 season opener at Sebring. Just haven't cleared it with the misses yet. Think I'll wait till the last minute and ask her if she wants to take a spring trip to Florida. Think that will work????

I'm sure if you and Larry come to Florida and bring your partners you'd have a great time, but you'd better start saving now!!
I'm sure there would be a whole lot of shopping going on by your other halves while you and Larry are at the track.
Bambi Sausages, Mmmmmmmm!!! :)

What's the typical Sebring travel period, i.e. when do people usually fly out and back?
-
As a rule of thumb, most people go out before, and come home asfter the race.
Hope that helps ;)

1 week is normal, but you can do it in a shorter period.
Does anybody know the dates for Easter next year? Last year I combined family holiday with Sebring (went to Sebring 1st week, family holiday after)
-
Last two times I went, I flew out on the sat. before the race and back on the monday after. Plenty of time to paint the townes of Florida and prepare for the race. Arrival at the track to get in line on tuesday night is a must in my opinion.
-
I normally fly out the Saturday before the race and fly home on the Sunday (day after) the race. Flight lands back in the UK at 7am and (stupidly) head straight to the office.
-
First time in '07 I had the same flightplan as knetter, this year I stayed a week longer for some baking in the sun in Jupiter, and returnflight on the saturday. Planning is to do the same in '10.
