Title: Keep the home lights burning. The Home Guard Thread.
Post by: Lazy B'stard on June 13, 2014, 09:02:53 pm
Sad to be the one starting this thread again this year. Might as well make the most of it. TV ready, lap top and iPad charged, beer in the fridge and a corner of the living room cleared in case the old drunken urination syndrome kicks in.

Join in folks. Hope you have a good one wherever you may be. And let's also raise a glass to those missing in action.

Last minute call not to go, and not really a choice I would want to make again.

So will watch it unfold on telly, been kept upto date with texts from the tram, bar, parade, bar and restaurant, so far tonite which is not helping my mood.

Well here I am too

In deference to old LM I'm mixing my drinking

cheapo nasty lager (why spoil the habits ...) and Stella Cidre which I am practising with for next year

yes next year they will have to blockade the place to keep me away

Eurosport is still tedious bad telly though isnt it

Bloody huge screenshots of the moon

Made me even jealouser

So whoever is keeping the log, please log me in

Next time      Group C

yeehah

;)

Same here, texts and calls have been coming in. I was even told to skip the flight back to Manchester from Hamburg this evening and catch a flight to Paris instead. They were too Pi$$ed to drive and collect me thou ::)

I feel that I am amongst friends!

Sat here, with continual text updates, Facebook status reports, phone calls and my imagination doing overtime!!!
My mother in laws 70th birthday party tomorrow will be, I fear, a poor replacement for the Tetre Rouge bar, the Guinness tent and the Champagne Bar.

Well there we go guys. 2014 will pass, without us all. None the worse for it, I'm sure.
We just have to make sure that we get back there with a renewed enthusiasm, in 2015.

The glass (or field) is half full chaps, as one of life's eternal optimists I believe we are in a stronger position...

When they are back home sorting out their aching heads, diminished bank accounts and burnt out clutches and tyres, we, or some of us anyway, will have all that to look forward to at the Classic...

Hooraah for the Classic.

Ok looking at the qualifying I think it could be an epic year, one which we have missed, but we have the advantage of Radio LM and Eurosport so ultimately we should see more of what is going on.

Thinking about it though if I am honest should have gone to both events...

I think my glass has just got a bit emptier...  ;D

Watching the group C support its missing any silk cut jags, the lancia didn't make the grid nor did the bell 962, close race though..

Why don't the TWR jags run anymore in the historic GRP c?

I've never been a fan of the group C support race. Great cars, but Le Mans to me is multi class racing, and the lack of GT cars makes for a dull race. The track simply is not busy enough.

Sadly Audi I think ::). I think they will let Toyota and Porsche head off into the distance and implode and pick up the pieces during the night.

Fingers crossed for an Aston podium

Ha, I have some drunk texts in the night from the Guinness tent which had been occupied by the NISMO girls  :P Awaiting the photos >:D

I believe DFH had a good night last night after the win against Spain.

Also on the home fires burning side... Managed to get to Le Mans the last two years but not during race time. Figured that if I took enough photos of the girls outside the circuit then I can brainwash them into thinking that they are fans from early ages....

Glad to see some familiar faces(!) here - Perdu's gonna have no excuse next year.. Cant let that little GaryFrogeye get too many up on us can we?

As to the race - 12 out of the last 15 means it could be boring but heres hoping that Porsche pull it out of the bag...

I have come home from the allotment for a lunch break (its scorchio out there...) and listen to the start.

Funny to be sat on a comfy sofa listening to the Radio LM voices.... feels a bit weird.

French bread, garlic sausage and cheeeeeese on the menu.

I am off to a wine tasting tonight, so will save my units till then I reckon!!!

Got to say my laptop doesnt like working the pictures and Radio LM at the same time.... overloading the old girl.

I must say some of the commentators on the live stream are flippin hopeless!  Dont seem to have actually done a lap of the track... where is turn 7 and 8?

See the Flying Cock is the first retirement. ::)

Enjoy your vino tonight.

I don't know about home fires burning, but my arse is in a terrible state after too many of the local chillies last night.
Like the rest of the absentees I'm missing the place, and can almost smell the petrol and BBQ mix. Oh God, next year, it's got to be next year.

Wotcher guys n gals, - yep, got to get back next year.
I'm tempted by the classic (again) this year, I'm going to have to do a bit of homework and see if I can get down. In a sort of James Brown way.
All this talk of Brethren parties, burnt sausages and torrential rain is making me come over all emotional.

Give me a shout if you make the classic this year. I've just been into the loft to pick a suitable bicycle for getting around on. Spare seat in the truck too if you get stuck.

Now on second coffee of the morning.

Track outside my window is dry, so will be off to the allotment soon!

Always nice to hear Hugh Chamberlain on RLM. Love to see him back with a team one day.

Can Porsche hold on? Is it time for another beer? Nice not to be thinking of the dash back to the ferry!

Plus an ad break every five minutes. However, have listened (and watched) the RLM commentary since the warm up on sat morning. Much better.

Just wondering who decided to put Webber in the Porsche when there is a race to win? Hartley would have been my choice. Driven brilliantly again.

As opposed to absolute wibble

They're more interested in themselves than the race

Constantly talking over the team radios  I've gotten too used to reasonable commentary on the Beeb

Never thought I'd ever say that

Shame about the 20 porker but a decent run for the return to la Sarthe

Oh well must be time for a cuppa

We it's better than nothing :) problem lies in the fact that the French management do not really care about the UK audience. I got the impression that there was a delay with the UK commentary hence the talk over. Best thing to do is to record it and fast forwarding through the adverts:)

Anyway you will be at the race next year so you will not have to worry about Eurosport!

Well - another year over. Have unplugged the laptop from the telly and about to cancel my eurosport player subscription.

Highlights for me were the LMP2 win for Jota, Brendon Hartley leading for while in the Porsche and last evening, being brought a small pot of Rillette for starter by a friend at their house for dinner. The beer was ice cold - if it had been slightly warmer could have perhaps imagined being in a field in France, (or maybe not).

It was the girl and the Irish fella that really peed me off, though they were changed out for the last couple of hours which was avast improement, very infantile and that I presume is without drink, not like us lot, well me anyway.

With regard to putting Webber in instead of Harrtley, I am sure that is purely for the PR angle just in case he did something useful. I think that Porsche should be prtty pleased with their outing also nice to see the Audi garage clapping the 14 car when it went out for the last couple of laps, and I do not think that was a PR stunt.
