Title: A goody for the Silk Cat model builder
Post by: Boorish Grobian on December 10, 2016, 11:06:53 pm
One for the model builders out there, who also happen to be fans of the Walkinshaw XJR's.  Model Factory Hiro is releasing a limited edition 1/12 ultra high detail kit of the 1988-89 Jaguar XJR-9 LM.  Anyone familiar with MFH kits knows they are the gold standard by which other model manufacturers are judged.  MFH is maniacal about detail, and they utilize multiple materials for the build process,  The kits are as much works of art as the finished models.  Price isn't for the faint of heart though, they usually sell for around $600-700 dollars, but the models are stunning, and the kits become valuable collectors items once the edition is sold out.

Now that will be nice!

Some years ago, I made and detailed the Tamiya 1:24 scale Jaguar and the Mercedes, and with an amalgam of 956/962 kits and mods made the Shell sponsored 962....so if they're doing this in 1:12 and could do the Shell 962, that would be just peachy....

Agreed MGM, in the hands of a confident modeller, the XJR-9 LM will be stunning.  I'm with you, the 1988 factory cars from Jaguar, and Porsche are among the most beautiful to ever grace the 24 Heures du Mans.  I've purchased three models from MFH, that I admit are my retirement projects. The 1/12 1978 Lotus 79, and the 1/20-1/24 1970 Ferrari 512S LM Coda Lunga, and Sir JYS 1967 BRM P83 H-16 from the 1967 Belgian GP (2nd place, and for my money his greatest drive). Good thing I have a wife who is a understanding racing enthusiast!

Good luck with those! I've yet to go through boxes to remind myself of all the kits in there for when I have some time, but there's certainly a Ferrari 512S and Porsche 917, a GT40 and 908, and a 30s Bentley in them.  And Sopwith's J class Endeavour part finished too....

I bought MFH 1/12 Lancia 037 kit as its my favourite rally car of all time. That was £400 and I hope to start the build this year all being well. I would love the Delta S4  to go with it but that kit costs around £600 so will have to give that one a miss. It is coming out as a 1/24 plastic kit though in 2017 along with an Audi S1 Evo from Beemax Models. So will buy both of those instead.

The Lancia Group B cars were certainly evocative machines, brings back memories of a golden era of rallying.  Of the three MFH models I have, I'll probably tackle the Ferrari 512 first.  It looks like the easiest of the three, with fairly straightforward painting & decals.  I always thought the 1970 Coda Lunga's were among the nicest looking cars to ever race at the Sarthe.  The 1/12 Lotus 79 looks like a massive project, but I had to have it.
