Title: Drinks
Post by: Scirocco on June 07, 2019, 11:52:14 am
Hello everyone,

The last few years the regulations of bringing alcoholic drinks to the track have been getting real strickt, but tipically French I can not find the current regulations anywhere.

I understand the whole glass thing and safety, no problem I will bring cans to campsite and track.

But last few years security was surching through every backpak and cooler to find alcohol. I usually enter at carting. The first few years of my Le mans visits, people brought KLIKo's full of ice and beer.

Does anybody know what the regulations are and where to enter without getting robbed of my beer?

As ever, this is all part of the great French game and even they do not know what the rules are..
Embrace it and rise to the challenge, it adds to the overall experience.

No glass. Some security said no to cans others didn't.

Seen a text from the ACO that they permit one litre of beer, no glass, per person to be brought into the circuit.
Photo of the text including a French version is on Pistonheads forum, must be about page 2 or 3 thread title Beer.
I've got a photo of the French version on my phone to argue with the wooden tops at the gate.

What use is 1litre of beer? Bloody French.

Personally I take in one litre of fortified water* and cans of Coke to dilute it.

* may contain vodka

We found ale tends to look like coca cola, so easy to smuggle in.

Also found that they were super strict on booze in the hours running up to the start of the race but by the evening couldn't care less!

This approach did end up with us downing a significant amount of bottled booze a couple of years ago before staggering through the gate at about 1300 on the Saturday  ::)

A little late now, but, be creative. Bottles of ginger ale, in green bottles, finished prior, are great for putting booze in and re-closing, on bottom of cooler, some throw away camouflage on top (a few cans of beer will do) and on you go.... ;)

Big sign on the gate at Arnage (effctively both campsite and viewing area) for no glass bottles. Stopped today and some contraband in boot discovered. After a bit of banter proceeded with our stash intact.

Inside the campground there is a recycling bin for gless bottles. So if it isn't s clear as mud yet you need another drink!

ps, hardly a year for beer, bring your hot toddy.

Similarly, 1.5l. Vittel will be G&T!

Simple. Get your mate to go through the gate with an empty rucksack and walk along the fence to the point where you are standing with the beer / wine to lob over the fence and into his rucksack.
Then you go through the gate empty handed and smug.
Easy.

Pity I'm not there.....

The reality was: they didn't seem too bothered
A very quick. cursory glance in my backpack and that was that... backpack has 4 pockets, they looked in 1!
Still, I did have 2 large metallic water bottles with G&T in my bag

The various security dudes on the gate from Houx to the Bugatti were nonchalance personified.

Twenty cans of lager in a cool bag lobbed straight over the wall at the lower entrance. No bother at all.
