I wonder why it's for sale on e-bay?

Points I noticed :-
Quote
The Owner, an honorable man from the United Kingdom has the best intentions in trying to preserve the vessel for the people of his country

but above that :-
Quote
This auction however is only open to bidders with U.S. Citizenship, and subject to all Local, State, and Federal Regulations

So that rules me out ?

My god....  Is there anything people wont advertise on Ebay?!

Steve maybe one of our cousins from over the pond will bid on your behalf?  ;D

Hmmm, might have trouble finding room for that in the campsite come Friday morning! Unless I turned it into a mobile fish & chip emporium  ;D

I can see an almost Bond-enemy type scenario here. Buy the ship and turn into a mobile base for future world domination. Either that or that flat deck would make for the ultimate platform for a H-U-G-E Le Mans Scalextric!!

And it would be a great place to disappear on to avoid the alimony/maintenance payments.

You can see I've started thinking this through a bit too much already!!

And the andale counter is going up very fast, each time I refreshed the page to look at another photo, several more "views" had been added. Obviously a lot of future potential Goldfingers out there!!

The subject has been running for a while .....

International investors are working closely with the Friends of HMS Vengeance for last minute rescue of the carrier in the light of the awareness raised by the recent Mail on Suinday and Daily Telegraph pleas, as well as the unrelated Ebay internet auction. The Ebay bidding process was launched by an independent and unknown Ebay seller when the bidding hit the highest Ebay figure ever – watched by 250,000 viewers!.

http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/vengeance/

Also - 11-12 January 2004: Unknown Ebay seller in Rio/USA advertises aircraft carrier for sale a second time at $7 million. Advert removed by Ebay 12 January.

Seems that the "owner" on ebay may not be in a position to sell it legally.........

The ship has a good history - it would be a shame if it went to the scrappies - save it and fill the decks with Corsairs, Se Furies and Fireflies again.   Incidentally the Firefly lost in the fatal crash last year by the RN Historic Flight was originally a "Vengeance" aircraft.

A seagoing Go-Kart track. Imagine all the kiddies and adults going on a race cruise. Hay bales all across the flight deck. Karts being worked on on the hangar deck
I have one small problem about the size of the vessel. it's 690 feet on the waterline and only 630 feet overall. That's not really 'ship-shape'.

It was on bbc2 last week, someone was interested in buying it, towing it over and fitting it out as an immigrant hotel.
At £60 per person per week he said they could fit thousands of people on board.
