Title: Who What When Where 2004
Post by: smokie on April 11, 2004, 12:26:13 pm
It's that time again, when I volunteer to draw up a comprehensive timetable of Club Arnage members travel plans and events. See here for last year's http://www.swr2002.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/maps/wtg2003.htm

So, if you want to let me know your:

  • group name (if you have one)
  • travel plans (crossing/time)
  • ETA
  • Campsite
  • Any distinguishing features of your group (e.g. exotic machinery)
  • Any plans for open-to-all events/parties

or anything else you can think other might be interested in, please send details to me at smokie@stones.com. Given the huge amount of SPAM I have to delete each day without reading, it would be helpful if you titled your email Club Arnage Timetable.

Please bear in mind the limited space for each entry, so don't go writing War and Peace!!!

In previous years I have mailed this out to everyone who contributes, but this year we will simply update the version in  the above thread.

The Blokes at Le-Mans

Travelling down to Pompey wednesday PM should be at Beausjour (must order tickets earlier next time..) apres midi, Jeudi! unload the gear and then send out the boys to get material for the beer mountain from the local Carrefour

Distinguishing features;
- A Ferrari something or other.

- An XJS with it's rivet counting owner Critical Bloke

- my Range Rover, because some bugger has to get the gear to the site.

- 6 blokes in attendance this year including one virgin/sanitary executive, one old, one little, one critical, one stupid and an Adrian

- Friday PM Black Tie curry for the blokes accompanied by Mr Ravi Shankar and his Bingly Bangly CD.

- Tent will probably be a large ex-army a frame, great for farting in as they all collect up at the top with no place to escape. The first bloke to rise normally does so with a wet flannel over their nose.

Pop along for a stubbie or two (those with donations are never turned away), though I would avoid Adrian Blokes red wine as he can be frugally challenged when it comes to splashing out. We aren't sexist so flange are more than welcome to join us especially if their father owns a brewery/distillery or they have a very broad minded sister.

Gonna be a good un.. again.

Stupid Bloke

Dear Mr B Granny,
Whilst I am normally delighted to meet new people and impress/disgust them, I am afraid that I must warn you here and now.
If you are indeed a tax inspector I will be hunting you down like a mangy dog. I will be shooting, and I will be shooting to kill. Make no bones about this, and I now know which ferry you will be on. Death will not be the end of it, your body will be treated in a most vile and degrading way. Your children, and your childrens children will know no hiding place. Le Mans is not a place for folk such as you.
Of course, if your joking, then that's alright! Have a nice day!

Right, plans for the Pug 806 possee as follows:

Late arrival for us this year (long story) - not arriving until Friday lunchtime/afternoon  :'( .... Should arrive on MB around 2-ish actually. Bringing two virgins with us in honour of attending my milestone on the Sunday, one of whom's plane doesn't land at CDG from Madrid until around 10am. Then tripping via Carrefour prior to MB.

Planning to show the virgins some of the Friday evening shenanigans down at Arnage (nobody wants to drive back from LM on Friday evening - we park up and the Pug doesn't move until Monday lunchtime!) then back for a hook up with the Tres Hombres and their distinguished guests (depending on how hot the curry is, I guess they could be extinguished?).

Saturday will be an attempt at watching the Group Cs then back to base for the now famous Saturday "hose pipe" oblutions (for those that have witnessed this, this is the stuff of legend - well, something like that) but not for the faint hearted.

Pre-race will be a revisit to a haunting ground of old - THE TERRACES!!!! In the name of giving the virgins the full LM experience first time out, have plumped for a grandstand free event and our once usual spot will become home. These days it is populated by the aforementioned Hombres and also the esteemed TWATS (if they have finished playing footsie with the BAM boys that is!!!) - Hey Pres, do I still qualify for my shirt???? (Fawn, fawn).

The rest of the thing is open to negotiation and the twists of fate that spontaneity can bring, but rest assured a 9pm attendance at the Champers Bar will at long last be something I can cross off my list of things done!!

Sunday evening is again an unknown quantity but with some footie lovers in our merry band (not me I hasten to add - the overpaid primadonnas lost my support years ago but in the name of St. George I will this once join the throbbing masses) we will no doubt go in search of the "beautiful game", with perhaps some open-wheeled/Spoonface viewing to boot. And of course Sunday is my big day, so I will probably endup being chained naked to the thing in the middle of Arnage roundabout.

Monday departure from MB around lunchtime (not me driving I hope!!!).

There - see you all there at some point! Not long now!!

 ;D

We shall be taking a close look at your forms this year as you have made us feel so welcome!

Do you always radiate such warmth and friendly feelings towards your fellow man!

You may think you know which ferry we are on, but how do you know that I'm telling the truth?

Come and have a beer and see what friendly caring folk we tax inspectors really are!!!!!!

I have to do my returns just the same as you and if you believe we are really Tax Inspectors then you'll believe anything!!!

It's all in the name of fun and raising money for charity.

2 x Spitfire 1500s, an Alfa GTV 3.0, and a beefed-up Ecsort

Back to basics this year, after things getting a bit out of hand in the past (took 3-piece suites, standard lamps and carpet 2 years running, all of which got burnt on the Sunday night; bare-foot firewalking seemed like a good idea a couple of years ago; setting fire to the fridge less so!). Beer, cars, fun. What else is needed? Plan to watch Sunday night footy either in Alencon or Rouen (Formula-1 hotels booked in both towns depending on how long to get the cars out of the campsite).

[ bare-foot firewalking seemed like a good idea a couple of years ago;

I have to ask. Did you manage the firewalking and was it ok. I fancy trying it after hearing a top charity fundraiser type person saying this is the new money spinner and its a mind over matter thing. Beats my bbq fluid fire eating (This year Mark I promise) which the kids love but the wife hates (suprise suprise).

Title: Re:Who What When Where 2004

Did you manage the firewalking and was it ok.

Yes, two of us did it. Once you get over the fear factor it is very easy. A bunch of us had been sat around the fire chatting all night, and by dawn it had burnt down to a mass of glowing embers - no flames but pretty damn hot (not surprising considering the number of trees we'd felled found lying on the ground and burnt!).  Perhaps it was the lack of sleep, but I decided it was do-able. Raked the coals out as flat as poss. Ponced around a bit with last minute nerves then walked straight over. Easy. No blisters / pain. HUUUGGEE feeling of euthoria!

Once was enough for me, but another lad (an impetuous enthusiatic type) did it several times, with only one small blister to show for it.

Tips if you fancy it:
Rake the coals out flat - you don't want your feet sinking 6" into them
A bit of grass dew/water on your feet definitely helps
Walk moderately fast (does anyone need telling this!?)
Don't stop / change your mind half way across
Try to avoid chucking beer bottles into the fire the night before!!! (forgot that we'd done this, but incredibly neither of us got any cuts)

Go for it & good luck!

Hey all,

2nd Le Mans, (1st in 99).

My Danish wife and I will be flying in from Chicago to Paris, and arriving in BSJ camping area just before noon on Friday.

We will be in a rented bright red Ferrari Modena, and a little tent. I SAVED FOR A LONG TIME TO RENT THAT LITTLE CAR!

Any one willing to hold a nice camp spot for us in BSJ?

Any other Americans or Danes (or anyone else for that matter) feel free to drop by for a beer while the beer lasts!

Three weeks today for us too.

A couple of amendments to our arrangements:

1. We are on the 23:45 Portsmouth-Caen on the Wednesday night, not 22:30 as I wrongly put before.

2. 2 members of the Shed crew (Chicken and Rubber Duck) now not going so only the 4 of us.

- The parade at fridag evening (in the centre of Le Mans city)
- The Mulsanne and Arnage corners
- The bars at Arnage
*- The pitwalk at friday
*- The unofficial burnout at friday on the "main"-road just outside Bleu (anyone knows the time this useally starts?)
- Almost everything else, besides from the toilets!

*- You probatly will miss these, but keep them in mind for next year

No name
No exotic machinery – just the finest Jacques could make in Le Harve (Renault)

First time

Going with my eldest son who is 10 (brother in law whimped out) so only me driving,

Going Friday Am via tunnel, due to seasick child on last sea cat crossing we made and general convenience, not camping this year.

Son’s great idea was to get two sleeping bags and a grandstand seat and just stay there for 24 hrs.  Has any one ever done this?  It didn’t appeal.

 ;)

Hi Big Ron,

Your son will become bored witless within a couple of hours if you don't move from the grandstand. I can see his theory, but in practice it is misguided. Better to base yourselves at your carpark and go back there for a couple of hours shuteye lying on the grass late at night. You can go to sleep with Radio LM playing so when you wake up you'll know what the crack is. You'll be able to wander around the spectator areas too without lugging around your sleeping bags etc. There's so many other distraction at the track too and any youngster will want to have a look at them. Anyway, the race itself will be rubbish this year I reckon, unless you're an Audi fan.

thanks for the advice, had thourght about the car option and that was favourite as the only reason we're hoteling it is because i'm the only driver and needed some reasonable sleep for the drive back to gb and one night stop overs withina reasonable distance of LM were not available.

but the take a tent and just walk in is appealing, they just take walk ins then no one bothers?

Thanks.

Going Friday Am via tunnel, due to seasick child on last sea cat crossing we made and general convenience, not camping this year.

You could always pitch a tent at Parking Blue, its accepted practice and good atomphere(but no bogs or showers - plan ahead)! Keep on the move, if you do the start line at the start, walk up to Tetre Rouge for when it gets dark - awsome- back for some kip, in the morning take the car down to Inianapolis and Arnarge and then back to the finish line for the finish. Thats the great bit about LM you can see lots of different perspectives over the 24 hours without it being to exhusting! ( its the beer that knackers you!)
Have  a good one ;D

We are the Brethren
[/size]

Leave Folkestone for Calais via euro tunnel at around 10.30

Arrival Karting Nord from mid afternoon wednesday.
Our largest year so far. Possible 60 plus attendance.
Not many bikes this year but I'm sure Billyboy will entertain everyone with his dirt burnouts.
A few nice motors though and a few gay ones too. A pair of Aero 8's, DB7, Cobra, Sunbeam Alpine, Jags, Scooby plus various other assorted nonsense. Plenty of rental cars to ruin again. ( hooray). plus Simon and the Lambo boys usually pitch up sometime on Friday.
No Doom or Hinch this year. Hinch has a good excuse as he is now based in China. Doom doesn't.

Usual antics.
Thursday just floating around. More bods arriving from New York via Paris.

Friday. Indianapolis followed by the jaunt to the town square for mucho beer and hopefully getting as sunburnt as we did last year. Also hopefully there will be no mooning Granny this time (Ack). Stumble through the soap suds that always seem to find there way into the fountain in the place de Republic.
return to the campsite for the Evenings event of the now legendary Brethren Bash including Trayboy's and Elvis's floor shows fireworks and flaming bikes plenty of good music and some right shite too.( Hopefully Trayboy will keep his clothes on this year). All and sundry invited, just bring a slab and try the Chilli Challenge if you're man enough you Silky Boys.
We have many new boys to initiate, bring yours too.

Saturday. Champagne bar at 12 til 3 to kick off the day. Back to the champagne bar with whoever I can muster.

Sunday . Rouen for a decent shower, meal, loads more beer and of course the England France match at O'Kallaghans in the Place de Charles De Gaulle.

Monday. Our time for remembrance and a visit to a few memorials and a long relaxing drive home and a top lunch on route to Calais.

If you spot us , come over and introduce yourselves.

Have a great race.

Sir Rusty of Old London Town
Two busty milkmaids in our crew this year, neither of whom have experienced either Le Mans OR The Brethren before!
Should I warn them or shall we wait to see their reaction?

I think the latter........

I would like to announce that we have 1 extra person in our crew for this year.

Over dinner last night my DAD agreed he is going to make his first visit.
I took him to the classic in 2002 and had a great time but he said that the 24 in June is just too busy. That brings our party up to 8 people (nearly three times more than last year and twice the largest number).

See the first page of the thread for our full intinary.

Hi Quirin

You'll definitely need grease. Lots of it. Also, oil, lard, fat and ox tallow aid the cooking process. Additionally, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans, fried bread, fried potato, fried black pudding (a thick sausage made of boiled up pigs blood with big lumps of fat in it) will all help fill you up.

Don't forget your sick bag.

Andy Z

PS You still in Table?
