Before my time, but looks like the early seventies, the old pits are the clue. I think it could be Team Blakey with the Routemaster. Driven by that blond haired bloke Bob something or other who topped himself last year and Olive of of On the Buses.

I'll get you, Butlah! Bwwahhh!

You've got the vehicle correct, and as far as I know, you could be right about the team/drivers.  Otherwise way off the pace!

It's that well known kids team from the 70's "The Double Deckers" - remember the TV show? (not you Robbo ;))

The Double Deckers! You could be right Steve. Just to cut across the other thread about slightly famous folk, how about this for a co-incidence?

I used to go to infants school with a kid who grew up to become well known sports car driver Nick Whale. He drove a BMW in the early 1990's in the BTCC, but now is seriously into historics. He was at the Classic LM this year driving a Lightweight E Type.

In about 1972, I remember being very jealous of Nick cos his Dad somehow wangled it for him to go and see an episode of the Double Deckers being filmed. Didn't know it then, but he had met a bird called Patsy Kensit who played Tiger. I think Nick also once got to watch the filming of Screen Test with Michael Rodd, but I can't think of any LM connection with that!

Another alternative - Cliff Richards, The Shadows, Una Stubbs etc in an out take from 'Summer Holiday'

You maybe right with the bus, but not the team.

This double-decker bus was the property of the museum, and sold many years after to my boss who still own it.

Now the top roof has been cut, seats removed, upper level turned into a terrasse with balcony and lower level into an office.

This bus is actually for sale (around 4500 euros) and I'm actually thinking of a project around it.

Probably quicker than the Morgan.

oops !!!

I totally miss it  :-\

This is not the "roadster"version we have to sell. The roadster version is based on a '47 AEC.

This one on the picture, the bus from the museum, is a '58 or '59 Routemaster. It's still in its original 64 seats configuration.

We recently used it for LM Classic and it'll be use on the Jacobins Square tomorrow for the scrutineering of the 24H karting and will next stand all week-end long on the Alain prost circuit during the race. Nice grandstand, isn't it ?  8)

Is there a scruffy senile old bloke at the back that smells of wee?  :-X

...saying "tickets please, move on down the bus"

No, saying "please overtake us" to the cars on the RN23 cruising only 45 mph, and indicate to the FRENCH driver how to keep driving right on the lane, because he not saw anything of the left side.

However it's absolutely gorgeous parked just down the Cathedral.

There may well be a few more for sale soon as London Transport are phasing them out from within London.

Quote
In an article in the Metro, 29/4/2004, TfL stated :

"Wheelchair users and parents with buggies will be able to move around London much easier when the Capital's bus network becomes 100% accessible next year"

The article goes on to say (quoting Mike Weston, head of operations for London Buses) "Bus design has evolved over a number of years and, although there are still a few buses in service which are inaccessible and have steps, these will all be replaced before the end of 2005"

You're still no nearer getting the year!

As you can (just) see from the clock, with 4 hours and 10 mins of the race to go, things were a lot more relaxed in those days with people walking across the track!

To give you a clue, the year was very close to the one in which my personalised piccy was taken.

That's 85 or 87 then.

Forgotten about this thread - ta for the wake-up call Matt.

Very close! The personal piccy was in '87 (Jags had this same message in '86 and '87), and the main picture - the bus - was '88 when the big cats first won (in [relatively] recent times).

Must look out a few more mouldy oldies.

This is the famous Tiger Sopwith/Lazy Soames battle, if you notice the conductor, (Tiger), is just approaching the bus, whereas the driver is not yet aboard, this was due to Lazy's insistence that they were due to leave at 3.10 p.m. and not a moment before.....to be continued?
