Post by: Abs on August 31, 2004, 02:27:43 pm
Is anyone going to the revival at the weekend?

I might be there on the Friday not 100% sure as yet.

I cant go, due to work, but my sister has VIP tickets.

Sorry Robbo, it ain't that kind of event. She should dress up like one of the Mitford sisters, or maybe wear a uniform. Yeah, a uniform would be good, say a nurse or police woman.

They did! And I believe you have a left hooker pm, presumably this means a red suspender with an ice-pick standing by, sympathy for the proletariat and favours for the miners welfare.
Also, I believe the early motoring years were rife with "Duckhams Wrestling" incidents. This, for me, should be the way forward on Sunday, when those painted on seams are starting to run. A quart of the green stuff goes a long way.
I once got invited to a "Mazola Party", and innocently went along (up until then, lard had been the only chip-oil I'd dabbled with). Well, christ-on-a-motorscooter, if only you could have seen what I saw that night, I've never eaten a haddock since.
And I'm double booked, as well as double-entendered, this Sunday, and well p*ssed off, last year was a corker.

For them as is interested, I was delighted to hear that the great Win Percy will be making a return to racing in a specially adapted Jaguar MkVII saloon. Win is a great guy and a great racer, and a former stalwart of the 80's XJR sportscar team. Win was paralysed last year in an operation gone wrong following a gardening accident of all things.

I, for one, will be cheering him on. Go Winston!

I'll be there this year - i went a few years ago and it was stunning.

I'll probably hook out my Club Arnage T Shirt, however I fear it will never recover from Saturday night at the Shampoo Bar.........

Otherwise I will be wearing Reading FC Football colours, cos I've got nothing to dress up in.........

I belive that a few members of Bobblehat racing will be there. In a vintage bus I belive. But unfortunatly there is a clause in the the small print that states that "No Gnomes" Sorry no Norbert. At least the all the furry mascots will be safe ;)

I saw a few people ready for the fun today, on their way to Goodwood.

Unfortunatly for one bloke in a red Porsche 90 i believe, he had bad luck with reliability and needed the boys in blue to push him started again .

Another cracking day out, we were in a TR6 which made a change, followed a 1930's Bentley on the way home all the way to the A3 towards London took some photo's and then it left us behind  ;D ;D ;D

 :o

What a great day out the goodwood revival was AGAIN this year.

My personal favourites?

The Ferrari 250 GTO, the Lotus 25, and Frod GT40's (obviously)

How these people have the balls to drive these things i dont know,  but there was one point that I saw two ferraris - one 250, one 330, decide to have a go at each other in a BTCC style - banging doors, bending wings, caving rear ends in.  Now the Ferrari 250 GTO is my FAVOURITE road car of all time.  If anyone saw someone REALLY cringe when the came together, that was me........  a couple of million quid a piece, and they're STILL clanging doors with em!! Madness

Brad

P.S I have sunburn :-(

Agreed Brad, great day out.

Highlights,

Blagging our way into the pre 66 car park in a 71 E.type without a ticket or pre 66 car.

Grant williams in the Jag being beaten by a tiny noddy car, after both of them fought there way from the back of the grid.

A great air show, the spits and Mustangs plus the Lancaster wonderful.

An amazing array of sports cars in both the TT and Whisun races.

We also saw one of the Daytona Cobras get barged of the track by the Project Aston, a Stingray spin into the gravel and go up and nearly over as a saloon car did earlier in the day.

A couple of GT40s got a bit dented and willie green ending up being beached.

Best wishes to Chris Smith, owner of Westfield Sports Cars who crashed heavily early in the F1 race, again at madgewick. the car seemed to fold in half around him very nasty and it took over an hour to cut him out, Nasty.

Agree with all of that Nordic, esp best wishes to Chris Smith, although I'm a bit annoyed with him as his accident caused a delay of about an hour, I was on a tight time schedule and had to leave before the GT40's, Lola T70 spiders etc came out to play.

As you say, Grant Williams was spectacular, I'm only surprised they werent picking his teeth out of the steering wheel, he got it sooo sideways at the corner with no name and had a bit of a tank slapper going at about 120 mph. Awsome!

Finally, note to the organisers. On a hot day with the commentators warning people to drink plenty of fluids, it's probably a bad idea to run out of drinking water at every bar/cafe by three pm. Grrr! A £1 can of luke warm vanilla cola does not cut any ice I can tell you.
