Title: complaints? Le Mans?????
Post by: RS2 Babe on June 24, 2005, 09:07:59 am
 :-* :-* :-*

There seems to be more than a few moans from people this year in connection with noise and/or camping pitches.

The moans about noise seem to come from women on various sites which is just not on.

Lets remind ourselves why we go to Le Mans - the sound of a car at top speed/changing down/up we love cars and the noise thay make. Yes the Panoz was the most loud but I loved it.

For me the sound of the cars going round Arnage is like Heavan.

I also loved the music played by fellow Le Mans lovers we were all there to enjoy ourselves.

I would not dream of asking a fellow camper to turn down their music.

STOP giving women a bad name with this migraine thing JUST DO NOT GO.

The more my chest rattled with the cars going past the better.

Don't go to Le Mans if you are going to moan.

Only stupid women and idiots moan about Le Man.

It just really annoys me that any body would complain - how stupid stupid are you

I  Love you all especially the Liverpool Boys, JP Chenet, Beermountain.com,Canada Phil, Powermite, etc etc

LOVE
RS2 BABE

But lets stamp on these idiots

[ironic mode on] I think that's a dreadful thing to say, we went camping to France last Monday we found a lovely quiet little campsite called "White House", we found a lovely pitch near to some trees and a funny black  road with gravel flower beds around it.  It was beautiful and then do you know what happened???? Hoards of pissed brits turned up, playing music till all hours of the morning and letting off fireworks.  THEN some lunatics drove 49 cars (I counted them) round this funny little road for 24 hours.  It was dreadful, I could hardly concentrate on drinking my gin and tonic [ironic mode off]

Seriously I agree nothing narks me more than this contant moaning about how dreadful things were.  I was really impressed with the toilets and showers on  MB, granted there weren't that many of them but they were all clean and tidy whenever I used them and that can't have been an easy task with that many people and in the heat.   And on that subject - how many people actually put any money in the tin?

Yes it's noisy - it's a race, yes people play music loud and let off fireworks - everyone is having fun it's allowed.  The one that narked me was the tosser wheelspinning round the campsite at 4am one morning - not so much because of the noise more because it was blooming dangerous, there were tents pitched four feet from where he was spinning and I doubt that he was sober.  Fun is one thing - endangering others safety is something different.

I slept with ear plugs and ear defenders on at night and managed to get pretty good sleep - the other advantage being I couldn't hear myself snoring!   But anyway, I wouldn't change it for the world.  The place is fab - if you don't want to experience the atmosphere stay home and watch the coverage on the telly!

As I said in another thread I know some guys who are real petrol heads and really just go to Le Mans for the Race so they go to a normal Campsite in the area and drive in each day.  They don't like or do the partying thing.

If you party then it's no good expecting eveyones party to stop when your ready for bed.

Did anyone hear anything about the village being redeveloped for next year?  Seems they're going to bulldoze the place, probably for corporate hospitality amenities and retail opportunities.  I think the place has gone downhill over the last few years.  All the traders have been moved on, the oompah bar etc has gone

As for the noise, we had fireworks every night at MB (a lst), but this and drum and bass at 5 am is a bit much.  However, it does scare away the Caravan Club outing, but encourages the yobs.

Where are the posts from women complaining about noise? Unless I am mistaken about some of the nickname identities its only been blokes talking about generator noise, or maybe I am not looking at the right posts!!!  :P

Unless of course you mean "women" as in "a bunch of old women"....

Fran
(not a stupid woman or complaining about noise, tho i dont think i got my fair quota of naked arses this year, bring back the see thru shower cubicle for 2006 please)

Well it could be my fault, as I referred to a woman wednesdaynight complaining about the Italian Job being to loud.... Must say that 20 minutes later also a bloke showed up shouting he was trying to sleep. ;)

I find that once the lager-o-meter reaches full you can sleep through pretty much anything. At 4am the beautiful sound of the cars actually rocks you to sleep, never needed ear plugs yet and never will.

As for women, you are entering a male dominated domain at Le Mans. If you are in touch with your masculine side then you'll have no problems, otherwise, as RS2 babe says, stay at home. The same goes for blokes who aren't in touch with their masculine side.

Perhaps they should setup a site with free hot cocoa and marshmellows for those who can't cope with the main event. Somewhere near Paris would be ideal.

The vast majority of people with whom we come in contact at Le Mans are there to have a good time and are as considerate as you can expect -- the real answer is to do your homework and pick a campsite that matches your wishes for the racing.  If you are not into partying, MB is not where you ought to be.  However, the modern human appears to be interested only in stopping other people from doing anything they personally dislike (e.g. smoking), and will go to court if necessary to get their way.  So perhaps a group of kicking and screaming people ought to be expected too.  Besides, the median age at Le Mans appears to be rising rapidly, and that will also change the way it's perceived.

There were people at KN where we camped who apparently were there only to blast technopop for the entire 24 hours -- the type I call Smirking Bastards -- and that kind of person is not there so much to have a good time as to prevent other people from having one -- or to prove that HE can do anything HE wants and YOU can't stop him.  The charitable will put him down as a person who lives in Mummy's basement and can't call his Butt his own for the rest of the year, and pity him.  But at 4:00 a.m. when you are hearing the same piece of terrible music for the 35th time in a row, it's tempting to wonder if anyone has an RPG they can spare.

I agree that Le Mans is no place for people who get headaches.  But I think it's unfair to suggest that anyone who has any comments about the behaviour of others is a girly man.  The day will come when someone will die over some of this, and all of you will be saying "We never expected that!"  But in truth, you know that you did expect it and in fact all you did to prevent it was pray that it would never happen.  Don't stop having fun, but do think now and then about the fact that there are 284,000 other people besides you in the world of Le Mans.

Yes there did seem to be far more women there this year - strange.  LM must be appealing to more than just motor racing fans, though F1 is popular with the girls.

I'm not sure its got much worse, just bigger and longer.  Many years ago one group from Cheshire thanked us for not complaining, as they'd been told off so often,

But I think it's unfair to suggest that anyone who has any comments about the behaviour of others is a girly man.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone is a girly man. In the way that there are complaining women who go along with their motorsport mad husbands, there will also be motorsport mad women who drag their unwilling husbands along. I was making a vague point that there are plenty of women who go, knowing exactly what to expect, and that there are probably men who, shock horror, wouldn't enjoy being there.

I do agree that there are more and more people who's attitude is I'm going to do exactly what I want and f**k everyong else but everyone I met on MB managed to enjoy themselves whilst still being respectful. I've never been asked to turn my music down because I never play it at inappropriate volumes. That will change of course when I take my new 500W JBL speakers next time  ;)

Complaints?! You wouldn't believe it, but there were some b*stards next to us eating! You could see it all over their chops, dribbling down, and all crumbly. If you listened closely, it made a sound. Sometimes you could see their eyes roll back in their little petrol heads. Never mind spoiling my week, it's pretty well destroyed my whole life. The kids are cut up and in wheely bins in the cellar now, and as soon as the missus comes in, the job'll be done.
I saw them, all those filthy girly men, men-women, lady-boys and Women with Rattling Chests. Jesus H 60-a-day Christ, they were all there.

We might have been noisy (even though I dissaproved most times exept for Friday-(party)night), but knocking someone over while speeding in a car on Maison Blanche is way over the top. That's police work >:(

This was my first trip to Le Mans and I fully expected the music and people partying into the early hours, needless to say our group joined in with the fun and a great time was had by us all. ;D

Some actions though were IMHO a bit out of order >:(

People deciding that racing mini bikes / quads and Cars arround the campsite when they are pissed is a good idea and the setting off of fireworks when drunk (a tent near to us was  destroyed when a rocket fell over on launching).

Yes we should all have fun and indeed we should do our best to get pissed. I feel however that a previous poster had a piont when he suggested that someone may soon get hurt

I was up and about on our site around 0500 I found two French lads riffling through Stu's site, they got well f*cked off, there were about 5 of them in total minging around, then shortly after they smashed a side window on an Audi A4, the guy whose car it was chased after them and reported them to security who really were not interested, but he was told that the speeding car had been stolen a short time before
some couple of hours that was. >:( >:(

I did manage to get a good nights sleep on saturday.I put radio LM on in my headphones and when i woke on sunday,it was still on in my headphones. Can I class that as listening to the full race?

It's a shame too hear more than the usall level of complaints, maybe its the high level of expectation that we have set on this site. But thats what we'er about is'nt it? Having a good time and promoting it, not nannying about. I always thought ladies at Le Mans needed to be quite hardy and be prepared to accept it for what is was (the reason my wife chooses not to come), and there did seem to be more about this year.
The fact is that the more popoular CA gets the bigger the range of comments and feed back we will get good and bad.

We certanly had a great time, the company was exceptional and we had a great time, It was a shame that we missed JPC's party cos we were knackered from the through the night drive due to our ferry being late (so much so that even Paddys speakers were not a problem) but that was the only disapointment - roll on next year ;D ;D

Good god my first post on the board and it was in a complaints section :-[ I am not generally a moaner and do consider myself to be tolerant of others (most of the time).

I suppose I am a bit shocked that some of the behaviour I saw about the campsite (Houx Annexe). It was not the drinking, singing, playing of music and generators (although the noisy old diesel genny must have been a pain to be near) I expected all of this and joined into the spirit of it all. It was the racing about the campsite with bikes scooters and cars that was thoughtless.

This first trip to Le Mans for me was in general fantastic. Arnage on Friday was great so many nice cars and nice people. The Racing was spectacular and the evening partying was also good fun

Our group are already planning for next year.

None of the girls in my group would complain, otherwise they dont go next year. Same for the boys too. And me.  :D

But thats what we'er about is'nt it? Having a good time and promoting it, not nannying about.

There is the problem, for some its pouring red wine into cars, squirting water into peoples faces, running gennys all day and night, racing round the campsites on scooters etc, being abusive to others around you.

This was my 25th year on a campsite at LM (do I get a medal?) and in most ways it has not changed, the music, drinking and fireworks where going on back in the 80's, and is a big part of why we choose to stay on the sites we do. What has changed is the reaction from a minority of people if you make a reasonable request, they become abusive and threatening.

By far and away the majority of people we meet are great, and this year was no exception, however and it is a big one, there are now some people on the sites who could not care about others and the impact there actions have on them, and I suspect they are the same at home.

I agree it's no good complaining about the high spirts in some people.  For those that don't like it then an off site camp is the place to be.

But those that pour red wine in to cars,   Scrawl obsenities in the dust on peoples cars, Hurl abuse at people just cos they drive a car they don't like  are the ones that should be someplace other than Le Mans.

When the Jags won in 1988 my girl friend said
"You can't go down the Hunaudier Bar in that." (A Porsche T Shirt).
"Why not" I asked,
"You'll get lynched".
"Nah" I said.

Sure enough no problem.  In fact while we were there the Porsche Team Trucks drove by on the return home. They got a great cheer from the Brits.   IMO thats because without Porsche in the Race the victory whould have ment much less.

My guess is it's always been the same.  But these days we get to hear more tails since we have the forum.

There is a difference between types of behaviour.  Personally I have no objection to the music etc, although I think consideration should be given if the vast majority of people on the campsite are in their tents sleeping.  What does irritate me is when people return to their tents very late, when everybody is asleep and the site quiet, and then proceed to appear to create as much noise as possible music with music as loud as possible etc.

The other behaviour I don;t like is that which presents a danger to others, this includes some of the antics with fireworks, where for two years in a row I have seen fireworks released inappropriately and have promptly shot through a tent.  It also includes those who drive like idiots through a campsite, whether on a motprbike, car, mini-scooter or as I witnessed this year Audi Shuttle vehicle.  Those in charge of vehicles should release that many people are wandering around campsites worse for wear and oftn with headphones or ear plugs in!

However in the majority of cases most people attending are considerate, friendly and willing to offer help.

When we got to the campsite the first thing the people opposite did was give us a cold beer, as that was required before putting the tent up.  When they realised we hadn;t been to supermarket on the way down, they gave us a crate of beer for the night, and we replaced it once we had been shopping.

Le Mans is an experience and nosie is to be expected.

I don't post much here but seeing this I feel i should add to it.

Having been a LM veteran for many years (20 odd) I am used to the drunken fireworks and assorted antics that goes on. In fact the firework displays are probably worth the entrance fee alone.

the one thing that really got me this year was the guys next to us running a genny all day and night, the machine was parked behind their van so they were not disturbed but kept awake 7 or 8 other groups. Despite a few polite requests the replies were pretty abusive in reply. We were at the site first so basicly had to endure it.

In the past we have had a few loud music campsites but they do finish at sometime and in reply we can make quite a lot of noise in the morning !!

Who wants to complain about The Italian Job on a 12 by 10 feet screen and sound coming from about 1200 Watts of speakers anyway? If you ask me, you haven't grasped the concept of what Le Mans is about, specially if it is before 2 am in the mornin!!!!!!

It did not spoil our or our guests fun though, 1000 Watts is still enough of a volume to hear everything the way it should be heared. Other than that we did not hear to much moaning about our presence!! Just a lot of positive remarks, thank y'all. Had a great time this year, good colourfull crowd on MB this year, hope to see y'all next year, same time?, same place!

A phrase in SLs post "we were there first" reminds me of a small altercation which someone in our group had. I wasn't there so I might have got this wrong, but someone turned up on maybe Thursday and disconnected a supply to someone else (water or power, can't remember). When someone remonstrated with him, he took the line that he'd been coming for 20 years so had more right then the other person.

Bizarre logic...sorry I can't remember it better...

Did it strike anyone else that the median age at all the campsites appears to be approaching 50?  My photographer Jamie, who is in his mid-20s, pointed this out to me going to the Drivers' parade and I had to agree that it seems to be so.

Do you think this could be part of the reason for people noticing more 'hooligans' and complaining about the noise more than before?

Smokie, when I was listening to that endless technopop at the KN campsite, I longed for your excellent skiffle download and would have loved to blast him with "My Old Man's A Dustman" and "Ernie"!   ;D

A phrase in SLs post "we were there first"

I think the 'we where there first' in SL's post is refering to the fact that as the camp had been set up and space was becoming a bit tight, to move, would not have been a option once the scale of the problem was realised on thursday morning.

Not the fact that he has a divine right by virtue of being a veteren to command the area around him.

As it was some of our tents where moved, and we then gave up space that was not needed and moved our awing to allow some other people to come in between us and the genny.

This turned out to be a bad move as these guys had a scooter each, there was 6 or 7 of them that needed constant tuning and the only way in and out of the pitch was between other campers parked cars (not always our's, there was a choice of routes).

Rather than walk the scooters thru the gaps they rode them, emerging more than once into the path of either a car or someone walking by.

Sadly Bill it's via my personal CD collection now on itunes and burnt onto  disc, some comes from a beauty of a website, www.limewire.com which will hook you up to pretty much anything you heart desires.
I just bought a £50 DVD player and plugged it into our mixer and played it along with all the rest of our nonsense.
A small selection from my theme tune collection, something for every occasion, all courtesy of limewire.
Benny Hill Theme
Benny Hill-  Ernie
Steptoe and Son
Trail Of The Lonesome Pine
Laurel and hardy Theme Tune
Dr Who - 1960's Theme
The Munsters
The Adams Family
The Yellow Rose Of Texas-Stan Freberg
Stingray
Fireball XL5
Thunderbirds
Batman 60's TV Theme
Three Stooges Theme
The Oompa Loompa Song
The Ying Tong Song
Cow and Chicken
Pink Panther Theme
Woody Woodpecker Theme
Flintstones

I can pop it onto a CD for you if you like but it will be MP3. PM me your details and it will be done.
 ;D

Limewire has a small payload when you install it. It's one of those intrusive things, but not that harmful IIRC. However it's a great source of all things MP3...

Great pic there Knetter, but WTF does that sentence underneath mean?  ???

Fran
 :)

Hey Fran,

Ever seen Austin Powers Goldmember? If yes, it should ring a bell. It is a line from Goldmember complimenting Austins father on his toit (tight) apearance in his pants.

Problem with Le Mans is thats it's a victim of it's own success.
Tickets sales are up 30% on last year, the camp sites are heaving with tents, cars and people, more corporate hospitallity means less space for the joe public.

When I first came 10 years ago, it was easy to get into the track, 10 years on we were stuck in a traffic jam for 90 mins at 2am in the morning trying to leave.

We now stay at a campsite 10 miles away from the track which is good apart from not hearing radio Le Mans and getting the atmosphere of Le Mans.

It will get to the stage that if something is not done in the next couple of years, people will be turned away.

Steve
