Assuming we manage to DVD it OK I'm happy to lend the DVD to anyone who wants it or wants to produce copies of it.

If someone can teach me how the hell to copy them I can have a go at copying it!!

I'd be more than happy to copy it and help distribute if required. That way I can get a copy for myself ;) What format DVD does your recording system use?

I may be able to help on the copying front too - what kind of recording kit do you have?

Dont rely on the Highlight show. Motors TV highlights are usually poorly edited ie they show all of the first few hours and then cut to the podium.

Technically it is only 1/2 a race!!!!  ;D No it is a great race but surely thay can spare 12 hours!!! plus a 1/2hour for the presentations.

Actually I prefer the 12 hour format over 24.  As a friend memorably said to me once, 24 hour races are usually about 22 hours too long!

I knew someone would get technical - I don't normally play the girl card but I'm a bit thick about this stuff!!!   ???

According to the front of the machine it takes RAM, -RW and -R, we normally use the -R's for things that we want to keep.

Is that the right answer to the question?

As for copying I've got the DVD player/recorder and a PC with a DVD writer - last time I tried to do this the DVD player in the PC didn't recognise that the DVD that had been recorded had anything on it!

We'll record the whole lot and not just the highlights.

Sounds about right to me.

I thought a computer would play any DVD.  perhaps one is VHS and the other Betamax?

I'd love a copy.  Will pay costs etc

Well, I'm a man, 36 of age, and I can't figure out those modern technology-things either. I'll give it another try on Saturday, but might just go back to the ol' video to record it analog :-\

I wish everyone fun watching it though, whether it's there, live on tv or via live-feed. For those of you without Motors or Speed, please check those websites with live-radio. It was fun for me listening to the Daytona 24 a few weeks back 8)

OK, slight technical hitch here guys!  We're going to be away over the weekend and there is 10.5 hours of coverage on and according to the machine even on long play we can only record just over 8 hours onto a single DVD.

Sooooo my current plan is that I'll record the beginning and the end and lose 2 hours in the middle somewhere in the hope that they'll repeat it all at the end anyway!

Anyone else going to be around who can record a chunk of it or sky+ it and record it off later (we don't have sky+  :( )

I'm going to try to Sky+ it, but don't ahve a DVD recorder (yet) so will maybe have to tape it to VHS and pass it to those that can, unless of course Mrs JPC decides that as I haven't gone to Sebring this year I at least deserve a DVD recorder!  :-\

And Mrs JPC is so lovely that I'm sure she'll let you have a recordable dvd  :-*

Is that the right answer to the question?

That''s fine Piglet. -R is the best format for sharing with others as it's the most compatible.

Now I'm no 'expert' either but one question comes to mind about your PC DVD not recognising your DVD's recorded on your TV recorder/player - when you've finished recording do you 'finalize' the disc? I believe if this is not done your TV player/recorder will still read and play the reorded disc, but other equipment will not.

Sooooo my current plan is that I'll record the beginning and the end and lose 2 hours in the middle somewhere in the hope that they'll repeat it all at the end anyway!

No Sky+ here either but I'm sure a couple of hours will not go amiss. If you let me have a copy of the finished recording I can at least edit out the ads.... I'll PM you my address details.

It's on Motors, can't recall the channel number though.

Pretzel - I've never finalised the disk so that might be the problem - I'll have a play with the machine and see if I can work it out.

I'll record as much as I can and let you have it to edit - if someone else gets it as well then fantastic.  Last year when I tried to video Spa LMES I got four hours of the freezeframe out of the back of a car window as the sky box had frozen up so better too many than none at all!!

JPC - I think it's only reasonable that Mrs JPC buys you a DVD recorder in exchange in for you l eaving her in peace for a week!!

Does anyone know if I can "network" the Sky+ box so  can use the DVD writer in my PC to burn stuff?

<Note to self, must read the whole thread before answering questions!!>

I like your logic Piglet!!  ;D

It's just a shame not all females are as logic as you though. My uncle missed a lads night out with us last night as his wife arranged for someone to come round and show then some curtains and she insisted he had to be there. WHY?????  He's a man! We all know his opinion will be wrong anyway, whatever it is.

Yes you can Mark.  I looked into this a year or so ago, but at that time I didn't have a good enough graphics card to accept the input from the Sky+ box.

You can connect via SVideo link or (better but a lot more expensive) via fibre-optic.

Parts/cables etc readily available at, if you want to use them, PC World, and I am sure that many other outlets would have them.

OK guys, the sky box and the DVD recorder are set and double checked so fingers crossed!!

The Motors TV Schedule now doesn't match what Steve posted above, and neither schedule matches the schedule on the Skybox so we've taken a punt on times and should get the majority of it!

With Motors pictures and words from Hindy I reckon you lot are going to be spoilt for choice!

We've off to Brands for a bit of real engine noise!

Have a good one!

Yes, Yes, Yes  ;D  The DVD player & the Sky box appear to have worked OK and we seem to have the beginning, the middle and the end of the coverage.  We had to drop an hour or so in the middle but it looks pretty good.

I'm going to pass it over to Pretzel who's going to edit it.  I'll mail it on Tuesday, gonna have a look at it tomorrow night first (as well as the highlights!)

There's just one small hitch in this...in our gross stupidity we put a DVD RAM in the machine rather than a -RW.

Keith is trying to work out if we can use any of the vast amount of electronic gear in our house to copy it across onto something more sensible.... Any suggestions gratefully received!

I knew it was going too well!

Pretzel you were though right about needing to "finalise" the DVD and then being able to read it on the PC.  It does work - although it won't work on this because our PC doesn't read RAM!

The only problem is my Dell S video connector is OUTPUT only no input..... I can play to the tv but not record from it.

OK, we are getting there with this, although Keith has used up all his patience on it all!!

Our DVD recorder did indeed burst into flames this morning  :o  The nice people at Costco have refunded us for it and we've got a shiny new one with a built in hard drive as well.

Should get the DVD copied off tomorrow and on it's way to Pretzel ASAP!

What a blooming fuss!!!   ;D

OK after much swearing, some smoke and flames the DVD is on its way to Pretzel - it went in the box last night but may have missed the last post.

There are 2 Dvd's the first one is all of the coverage but the recorder was clearly dying at the end and the last 20 minutes or so is not good, lots of breaks in the coverage, jittering etc so we also recorded the last 20 minutes of the highlight prog on a separate dvd so you might want to put that on instead of the original stuff!

Piglet/keithk,

Just to confirm DVD's received this morning. Have not yet had time to review the content but will do later today. When all is done do you want me to return them to you?

So far as I can see from this thread the following have requested copies:

20vmk2_dub
ferrari spider
lorry

Please send me contact details via PM (except FS - I already have yours). Provided all goes well I should be in a position to send copies Monday.

Hi Pete

I'm impressed that you've got them  they went in the village postbox around 5 last night - I assumed the last post would have gone!!

We don't need the DVD's back - we've got the original RAM versions which we're gonna watch this afternoon - we've just been and bought beer so we're about to re-create a race meeting to celebrate Keith's birthday!

Enjoy!

Right, I have given the DVD's a brief review and it seems to me that if the adverts etc. were edited out it would make the viewing experience very disjointed so I propose just to make straight copies and distribute.

I would also point out that as it was recorded in long play mode the quality is not what you would expect from a bought DVD - no offence to Piglet and Keithk - that's just the way it is.

IRW -  please PM me your details and I will add you to the list.

It's the only way to get all the coverage copied onto DVD when you're away from home!!!  ;)   Hopefully now we've got a hard drive recorder it should be better next time!  ;D

I dunno - all the way to Sebring and didn't get a chance to see the race eh?  :)

No problem Smokie. Please don't expect the same quality of artwork on the DVD box or printed DVD's as the Creation effort. Indelible pen is about the level of my capability in that area....
