Title: LMS Silverstone
Post by: DelBoy on May 07, 2007, 03:22:27 pm
Looking ahead a bit, I am thinking about attending the LMS event at Silverstone.

Who else is going?

What/where are the camping facilities (I'll bring the 'van)??

We were talking with Piglet about this at the weekend!

Basically at the moment there is not going to be any on cicuit camping avaliable! We are thinking of asking the Silverstone Organizing people if we can have a patch of grass and administer it our selves. Ie the circuit only give us interior car passes and let us stay the night in a pre determined area. If this goes ahead then we will obvously need numbers and money ahead of the event and that it will be assumed that there will no facilties other then those in the paddock (We could be a long away from there).

We will keep you posted.

I'd be interested in camping, too. So Rick, please put me on your Silverstone camping list too.

If I can get the time off work etc. I'll be making the trip southwards, and I'd be interested in camping.

Pee storf I missed the meeting last weekend.

Have sent Alex Lacey an email today, see what comes out of that. Of course I would be interested if the infield would be closed.
As far as I know Dirk and Roy would be interested to come along too, most probably more to follow...

I'll email a contact at the BRDC and see what I can do.  I'm not sure whether it will be achievable.

There is a small site 2-3 miles SW down the A43 at Syresham.  This is what the Camping Club call a 'Certificated Site' - ie no 'block sanitaire', but has hookups and chemical disposal point and water.

.........And a pub within half a mile   :D :D :D

There is a nice pub at Syresham - Rising Sun?, Old Sun? Something like that!

If it's Camping club it's probably members only but it might be worth a ring.

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: DelBoy on May 07, 2007, 06:01:49 pm
It's not a Camping Club site, but listed in their site guide, so everybody is welcome.

FYI, non-members are allowed on Camping Club-owned sites as well - they just pay a bit extra.

But as I said above, it is a small site, and we would need to book it well in advance.  And it wouldn't be grossly expensive like Donny was last year.

Me and Mrs B are hoping to go, depends on work and getting the kids farmed out.
We presumed there would be camping infield like 2 years ago, will have to rethink if there isn't. :(

I'm not getting any further, they won't tell me why the infield is closed :-\

Good morning thank you for your enquiry,

There are no infield camping facilities here at Silverstone for this meeting. The nearest camping facility is at Whittlebury and they can be contacted on 01327 858092. This site backs on the circuit and will only be a five minute walk for you.

Alternatively you can contact the local tourist board on 01280 700111 who will be happy to advise of other local places for you to stay during your visit.

If you have any further enquiries please call 08704 588 216 and one of the operators will be more than happy to assist you.

Kind regards

My BRDC contact has drawn a blank (they don't have any space to let us have) but suggested someone at Silverstone Circuits, I need to find time to make a call though.   The other alternative would be the organising club as I'm not sure who hires what bits of land for the weekend.

I'm not entirely confident that this is achievable.

Del's plan B might be worth looking at.

What a load of tosh. Are they are trying to to tell us they are expecting the place to be so full that they wont have space for a couple of dozen tents and vehicles? It's not as if we are asking for any facilities or the bar to be open. I would be prepared to pay a deposit, refundable if we left the site as we found it.

Bollocks to the soulless dump. I suggest we try to get a block booking at Whittlebury Hall. I have camped there before and it is not to much of a walk to the circuit.

Nope my contact is BRDC and the land inside the circuit is controlled by Silverstone Circuits and/or the organising club (for the weekend) hence why if you read my post I've been pointed in the direction of someone at SCL.

I appreciate I've had a bad day and I'm in a shitty mood but frankly responses like that make it quite tricky for me to pull favours on behalf of the website.

I did not mean to upset anyone with my post but it seems to me that, going by passed requests to Silverstone, whether it be to the BRDC or SCL, we have always been met with the same negative responce. We have asked on a number of occassions if we could be allowed to reserve an area so we, a bona fida club,  could be sited together and every time the answer has been no. I am quite happy to patronise Silverstone, and God knows they need it with Bernie always being negative about everything they try to do. Surely it is not too much to ask for a little customer relations and help for a considerable number of people.

Give it a break please. As far as I understood Rick, you and I are trying to figure out where to stay (and why NOT the infield) during the LMS weekend at Silverstone. I think we all find it very frustrating not to get what seemed so easy to get back in '05.
Let's continue individually with our own means of courses to try and get to the infield anyway. It's the best we can do. And as far as I understood from Rick, BobU's alternative seems a lot better then Whittlebury  :-\

Let's keep eachother posted here ;)

Whittlebury Hall is a country club that runs a campsite for Silverstone. You can't even arrive when it is dark as they are worried about safety! (Yes I replied I have headlights you know!) and you must be quiet by 11pm!

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: Piglet on May 10, 2007, 09:54:45 am
The trouble is we're not a bona fide club, and in the scheme of a race meeting we're not "a considerable number of people".

Anyway, to move on - I've pm'd Rick, Del and Paddy a suggestion of who to talk to at SCL.

Hello all, the Vette may be making an appearance at Whittlebury but not sure yet.  I'm off to Paris on the Friday for the England v SA rugby world cup match.  If I get back on the Saturday then there's a chance I'll be doing the LMES, if not then you'll all get a decent nights sleep.

Nice to see you here, Vette_1978. Great memories of Donington '06 ;D

Back ontopic, got an answer about the infield, finally...
Quote
Good afternoon sorry for the delay in replying,

The reason why there is no interior camping facilities will be available for this event is that LMES are hiring the circuit for the event here, and we are running the event on their behalf. In regards to the camping we have not been asked by LMES to operate a public campsite for the event.

If you have any further enquiries please get in touch on 08704 588 216.

Kind regards

Angela Hall

So, should we turn to the LMS organisation?  :-\

Hello Mr Vette,

You weren't the same vette owner who was in the Whittlebury bar on Saturday night at the GT's were you.  ;)

The business about keeping quiet after 11 is tosh (tosh is turning up quite often in this thread), on Saturday their appeared to be some kind of rave going on in a nearby field coupled to some party at the hotel complex, all of which went on much later than 11.

That was me, sat with the lass with impressive glands and a quiet fella.

Made a couple of young lads days on Saturday by letting them sit in the car, start it and then rev the hell out of it.

I'm in. The leave is booked, and a couple of mates are provisional yes's for the weekend.

Tell me where you're going to be camping and I'll book myself in there too (Unless we can get something as a group)

I'm going to get my fix of motor racing this year after all!

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: DelBoy on May 22, 2007, 01:13:58 pm
What is the situation regarding the 'infield' scenario??

I have contacted the owner of the small site at Syresham who, currently, has room.  In fact, I have made a provisional booking for 5 Caravans/campers and some tents - I can cancel this with no penalty if this is not the chosen route.

Apparently a very nice site by a lake - pitch where you want/how you want etc - no regimented rules other than 'civilised'.  But remember, no toilet block.  Fees are £7 or £10 (with hookup)  per night.

Whittlebury Hall fees are £10 or £17.50 (with hookup), has toilet block, and (apparently) a whole list of 'Thou shalt not.......'

The golf club remain adamant that they are not opening up for this weekend, and looking at their fees, I wouldn't go there anyway.

Another, Litchlake Farm, are only open for the GP and Classic, and have no electricity.

I cannot locate any other site in the immediate vicinity, so looks like we will have to run with one of these if the infield option is a no-no.

But remember, no toilet block.

Do you literally mean no toilets, or no showers?

I am not sure what I am doing anyway, I only get back from France on the Saturday afternoon... so might just roll in on Sunday on my way northwards.

Power is less of a problem than no toilets, as some of us have gennies which we could bring.
Not sure about bringing spades and digging latrines though. >:(

I would say toilet facilites will be essential. I intend to operate the Club Arnage Curry Kitchen, henceforth known as CACK. I thought a small fee would be in order this year, (maybe £5/£6 ?) all proceeds to the server fund if still needed or one of our charities. Cooled bog rolls will be available as an extra.

Neither toilets nor showers.

If this site is the only option, I could bring a porta potty and toilet tent.  Plus, of course, I have a toilet in the 'van.

I do need electricity of some sort, and would be quite happy to go to a site with no hookup if there were a generator handy.

Whittlebury Hall would be OK except for the rather stringent rules.  Rick -  how bad are they??  Sounded rather severe from your earlier post.

We stayed at Whittlebury Hall gain this year for the FIA GT's and had no problem. We were still rolling around drunk in the paddock bar well after official closing time. The Spanish laddie who was working behind the bar was a good laugh and he had a good laugh at us when we turned up the next morning wanting bacon butties and when they arrived going a good shade of green.

Bump!!

Having asked around a bit at LM, there is quite a bit of interest in this event.

It appears that toilet/shower facilities are a must, and as the infield is not available, that only leaves Whittlebury Hall.

I suggest that we settle for there.

I have emailed them to ask if/how we can be kept together as a group, bearing in mind that there will be a mix of campers, caravans and tents, some wanting electric hook-up.

Will let you know the result.

You know how some people bought houses, and this meant that they couldn't go to LM.

Well,  http://tinyurl.com/yr65le  :-[

I didn't even know I was going to buy it until I caught my mouth making the offer....

I still fully intend to do Silverstone, but moving into a rented house and converting the barn might get in the way. a bit. Bloody well hope it doesn't though.

I've stayed at Whittlebury Hall in 05, it wasn't that bad, we were still drinking and farting at 0300.

I'm intending doing the Classic in July at SCL staying at WH, but the LMS may pose a problems for me because the previous weekend I'm racing big boats in the Little Britian Challenge.  IT AINT ANYTHING TO DO WITH BEING THE ONLY GAY IN THE VILLAGE! It's a huge charity event by the Construction Industry.

But, if 'erindorz' gives me another 'out-pass' I'll be on my way.

Got this response from Whittlebury Hall:

Hello Mr Appleyard,

We are able to accommodate you all for camping over the LMES event at Silverstone.  The people booking electric hook ups will not be able to camp with the others although they will not be too far away.  All people booking must complete a booking form and return to us with a cheque no later than 7 days prior to the event.

Regards

Camping Co-ordinator

I say let's go for it - there is no other practical alternative.

Booking form is here  http://www.whittlebury.com/pp/uploads/Camping_Form_2007.pdf

When you fill this in, in the space for 'Event', put LMS and '(CLUB ARNAGE)' - may help to keep us together as much as possible.  If Donny last year is anything to go by, the site won't exactly be full anyway.

Only hope that the party who complained about the 'Vette being fired up at 3.30am is not coming this year!

Post on here when you have made a booking - saying tent, 'van or camper - and I'll keep track of numbers.

Whittlebury is IMHO very unlikly to sell out!

Bob U??  Doris made the post and we're waiting for a response from Bobblehat!!

Any news Doris, Bobblehat??

Incidentally, the other option I heard about is a no-no as it is a farm site and again has no toilet/shower facilities.  So unless Bobblehat can swing things, we're left with Whittlebury Hall.

My last update on this: I have forwarded the mail -that Angela Hall has sent me a little while ago- to Sander from PlanetLeMans. He will print it out and give it to Marina from the LMS organisation over the weekend at Nürburgring. Hopefully she can tell us why Silverstone tells us to contact LMS, while Sander believes the circuit itself would be responsible for the campsite.

He doesn't believe she can resolve the problem there and then, but at least we're trying to get another step further into the infield campsite... :-\

Because I'm not spending a week swanning around the Channel Islands 2 weeks before on a 40fter, but I am sailing the weekend before in the LBCC at Cowes.  I do believe I have a pass for the weekend. Thats unless she can think of something else I ought to do! But it's now in RED on the calender.

I need to speak to Paddy_NL about a CA flag aswell.

So, it looks like Whittlebury Hall for the campsite then. Thats unless 'palms can be crossed with Silver' and the 'sweat talkers' can do thier upmost.

Just watch this space, Steve.  We're waiting on a response from a French LMS lady (via Paddy), to see if we can get the infield.

If this is a no-goer, then it looks like it will have to be Whittlebury Hall.  I've already been in touch with them - tents will be separated from caravans, although 'not far away'.

Wherever, I'll be getting there probably lunchtime on Friday.

If tents are going to be seperated from caravans/camper vans (presumably because of electrical hookups/waste outlets etc) then I guess the communal gazebo area will need to be with you Del?

I'm meeting Bobblehat for lunch tomorrow. Although he had no joy with the BRCC, I'll ask him to reccie and other campsites nearby or maybe pubs with large gardens that might be accomodating!

I've located a few of these around the area but all state, in Camping & Caravan Club terms, "Own Sanitation Essential".  ie they have no shower/toilet facilities and whilst this may not be too much a problem for the blokes, I think the ladies would object .

Having stayed on many pub sites, it's a bit of a lottery.  Some open the loos only during pub opening hours, others have separate access 24/24... Unless you know the pub/site, you don't know till you get their.

The one pub site near Silverstone I tried (New Inn at Abthorpe) only had a small field - not big enough to cater for the dozen or so tents/'vans or so expected.

However, if someone can find another suitable site in the area, it may be worth a try.  Don't forget that it is not exactly a 'tourist' area, and there are not many sites listed in my book(s).

If loads come in 'campers' etc. If they all park closeby and wind out awnings, that would make a decent 'clubhouse' and a cover over us in sleeping bags.  So all we need is a car park!

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: Paddy_NL on July 12, 2007, 12:37:05 pm
Right. Phoned Silverstone Circuit first, but they could not tell me the start- and finish times of the race, as they would be informed by the LMS organisation two weeks prior to the race. Too bad I never seem to get any proper answers from SRC, I cannot imagine SRC lives completely in the dark as for the LMS race and cannot understand why I seem to be not allowed to know any more details than published in their website.

So I rang the LMS organisation in Paris. Spoke to a guy (no name mentioned) who told me the start of the race is 99% sure to start at noon on Sunday, which I predicted because of local sound regulations. Quite handy for those who live abroad, and have to book a ferry crossing for that weekend (or book a flight to Stanstead).

As I had him on the phone, I thought I'd better ask him about the camping situation as well. According to this guy the campsite in the infield is definitely not available this year during during the LMS weekend. He couldn't/wouldn't tell me why, but I predict it has something to do with the LMS organisation having to pay for the possibility to camp there. So it's probably all down to money again.

Sorry guys, I have tried... :-\

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: JDS on July 12, 2007, 12:57:41 pm
So it's back to the Whittlebury Hall option then? Congrats for trying .... You wait, when it's all over S/Stone will be moaning later 'how few people turned up' & 'it's so difficult for a circuit to make money these days' etc ... I wonder why when there is so much of a struggle to get one simple answer and how costly would it really be to open up the infield?  ???

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone
Post by: Paddy_NL on July 12, 2007, 01:11:40 pm
As far as I understood the LMS organisation have to rent the circuit for this race, so that should cover the costs for the SRC. As for the campsite, the bogs and showers are already there, so only the cleanup on the Monday after the race of the infield would be the extra costs, plus a bit more security at the gate. I guess they either ask too much money for the infield, or they are just not bothered with the hassle of organising it :-\

Just a minor point,  but this has nothing whatsover to do with the SRC (Silverstone Racing Club)!  It is an issue with SCL (Silverstone Circuits Limitd) and the LMS Organisers.

Plenty of people having been banging on at SCL about camping for all sorts of events,  usually to no avail!  Although I did notice that the MGCC were succesful in getting camping arranged inside the circuit and did have two distinct areas,  quiet and not so quiet!  So it can be done,  but I think it is all down to whoever has hired the circuit and if they have hired the whole shooting match!

Still if every one keeps on at SCL and the organisers you never know,  but in years to come there might be a proper campsite setup.  But don't hold your breath....

If memory serves me correctly, the MGCC (and the ability to camp and everything else with it) at Silverstone goes back many years, to the 3 organisations who stumped up the money for the BRDC to buy Silverstone from the Air Ministry after the war.  The MGCC was certainly one and i think that the others were the Bentley Drivers Club and the Peterborough Motor Club.  As a result, in gratitude for that, those 3 clubs have always had a weekend event to themselves at Silverstone.  Plus, the MGCC event involves an absolute army of volunteers doing everything from directing car parking, campsite running, and the clearing up afterwards.....

Whittlebury Hall sounds good to me. I camped there once for the GP and was happy with it. A 10 minute walk (max) to Copse Corner and a 5 minute walk to the local pub if need be. The facilities were good, clean bogs and showers and they were permenant blocks not just shipped in for the weekend. If they let us have the field nearest the circuit we will be well away from any other punters so there shouldn't be any noise complaints. I don't recall if there was electric hook up in the bottom field.

I should have stated this - apols, and glad to hear that you are now scheduled to attend Termie.

I re-post below the post I made some time ago.  The first bit is the response I got from my contact with Whittlebury Hall.  Best if we each make our own bookings.

Regards

Louise King

Camping Co-ordinator

                          ------------------------------------------------

Booking form is here:
http://www.whittlebury.com/pp/uploads/Camping_Form_2007.pdf

When you fill this in, in the space for 'Event', put LMS and '(CLUB ARNAGE)' - may help to keep us together as much as possible.  If Donny last year is anything to go by, the site won't exactly be full anyway.

Only hope that the party who complained about the 'Vette being fired up at 3.30am is not coming this year!

Post on here when you have made a booking - saying tent, 'van or camper - and I'll keep track of numbers.

Del

Also I have had a look at a few of the pubs with gardens here abouts and they are not realy viable, most are to far from the track compaired to Whittlebury Hall or lack facilities.

Keep you updated, and see you there.

Didn't see a difference in booking a tent or a caravan/mobile home, so I just left that open.
Have booked for Roy (knetter) and myself though, the other Dutch will have to book for themselves as booking is per vehicle.

Our arrival time at Folkstone is due to be 12.25 on Friday 14th of September, so knetter and I should arrive somewhere half three (if the M25 and M1 will let us through).
We should be back at Folkstone for 10 PM on Sunday, which leaves us plenty to leave on time after the race.

Paddy, just book in as a tent, I will be with the main bunch even if in the camper as I don't require electrics for the weekend. Generators are allowed on the tent field anyway.
Thanks Rick. As mentioned above I booked as "Car & Caravan or Tent - Mobile Home".
This as per booking form, there is no choice!

There was an earlier posting relating to keeping track on who intends to go and the number of tents etc.

'Team Y Ddraig Goch' (thats Team Red Dragon to those that don't understand Welsh) are booking in for about 8 tents.

We'll all be arriving sometime Friday, I'll probably be there about lunchtime to stake out our little area!  If we are down by the Barn or Lake (nearer to circuit) there should be facilities there. There was 2 yrs ago.

BTW, we are not all sheep sh*ggers.

Can you make sure those of your team that are sheep Sh*ggers are clearly labelled so as to keep them well clear of the local wildlife, I don't want my eyes burnt for eternity!

Does anyone know if Radio Le Mans/Globecast  will be covering  silverstone and if so do they broadcast at circuit and surrounding area? I seen to remember that Silverstone has a transmitter somewhere.
 Cheers

Silverstone does not have it's own transmitter. You can normally find the mobile transmitter on the old bridge over the national circuit. I would expect them to be there as every race even the 24h 2CV's had radio commentry, Globecast I believe cover all LMS events.

I don't think RLM covers the LMS.

We are all at Whittlebury park/Hall for the classic weekend at the end of the month.
Will feed back on good and bad points etc, also re noise, but with 40 odd cobras there all putting out somewhere between 100 - 125Db I dont think noise will be an issue !!!!!!!!!
Last time out en masse at Brands we kept the Kentagon bar open until well after closing time, so we will see what we can do here as well.

Chances are his English is far better than mine already

Kids seem to go to school to learn stuff "sur le continong"

Whereas over here they seem to learn palm-thumb co-ordination and that's not far off the lot!

Nice looking lad Paddy, but where does he get that awfully bad taste in tee shirts?

I am hoping to make the 'Stone for at least some of the race, but all of the weekend is unlikely at the moment...

At 13 my niece on holiday in England went off to deck an English lad who said "well smart German bird" to his mate as they walked by her.  She didn't really understand what it meant and was convinced it was some sort of insult and went off to smack him with me trying to drag her back and explain that it was actually a compliment  ;D

Does it clash with a F1 race? Yes it does, they will be no one there as there is a parade on in Belgium
Are they open at weekends?

Bad news. Bad news.Bad news. Bad news. Bad news. Bad news.

Monday 17th September is our 30th wedding anniversary and Mrs U decided months ago that she wanted us to be on holiday (in Turkey of all bloody places) to celebrate. After weeks of trying to get a flight on the Monday morning we have drawn a big fat blank,so, I'm afraid we have had to book from Saturday 15th. This means I will miss Silverstone :'( bolox bolox bolox.

I mean, 30 years for Christ sake, it's not even a special number like 25 or 50 is it. The things you have to do to earn brownie points. ::)

One good thing though. I have earned more than enough for Sebring. Oops sorry :-[ Am I the first to mention "The S word"

Even that still dosn't help with the thought of flying to Turkey.

I thought Paddy was selling his Camper?

I was and still am, but the potential 'customer' cancelled last night.

I have the same problem, just spent £50 on an advert then the heavens open and flood most peoples houses. Round here most people are either paying for repairs or spending the money on flood defences.

I am in the same "boat" (No pun intended) as Paddy as I will bring the camper if I still have it.

Finally got the answer (we didn't want, but guessed) :-\

Quote
Dear Sir,

We checked with the Silverstone race track, but unfortunately the public camping within the Silverstone circuit is not allowed and nothing can be done. For this year (and probably the next ones) the nearest campsite being offered to public is the Whittlebury Park as they told you.

It seems that this campsite is a short 5 minute walk to circuit and provides all of the facilities required to operate a campsite.

Kind regards

Oh well, we tried ::)

Don't know how else to ask this; who is going to be at Silverstone / Whittlebury on the Friday afternoon by about 3 o' clock, and feels like going somewhere special (very close by)?
We might have something interesting going, but I need to know first who - and so how many - will be there by that time.

Please let me know asap. Info about what's going on only via PM, as the organiser doesn't want this to go public.

Yes, Whittlebury.  As far as I know, the booking form heaps together "car & caravan or tent / mobile home'" in one category - hook up plots extra but somewhere else.

Here's a link to the booking form http://www.whittlebury.com/pp/uploads/Camping_Form_2007.pdf (http://www.whittlebury.com/pp/uploads/Camping_Form_2007.pdf)

Sorry Steve, but I'm going south. Last time I went with Stena I swore myself never to go with them again. It's a lot cheaper, faster and less hassle to drive all the way down to Calais and catch the train.
I am simply not prepared to pay €430,- for an eight hour journey each way, and be obligated to take a cabin when sailing overnight (yes, those costs are extra of course).

Last year I asked for a return sailing to go to Donington LMS by camper van, and they dared to ask €760,- for a weekend return!! :o

So I guess we are taking the campervan down for sure now?

I could handle part of the driving, so no need for you to keep off the booze on sunday, just don't overdo it.

My camper van will be a last minute desicion. If I can sell it the Thursday prior to departure, it's gone.

Doesn't look like it will be sould though ::) >:(

Post by: Paddy_NL on August 14, 2007, 11:27:03 am
Thanks for the offer Anita, but if the camper van is sold we can come over with the missus' car which can carry a top box. You might have seen the box this year at Brands Hatch, LT borrowed it for that trip.
So we should have plenty of space to get all our gear over...

Well done indeed, could you manage to flog my flat for me?  Second time waster of a buyer in line at the moment, this one , so the agent told me, definately had a written mortgage offer and now two weeks on, we're waiting for his mortgage offer  ???

Don't fancy your trip to Silverstone though!

Well, to be honest I did drop my price dramaticly, as I think this is probably the worst time to sell holiday stuff. But to get the price I want will take me at least another 8 months, which will cost me another grand or so in insurance and road tax. So I took my loss :-\

Sorry Piglet and Rick, wishing you both best of luck selling...

Where it says "Event" put LMS etc and include the words CLUB ARNAGE.

Hi Steve,

I'll be booking tomorrow hopefuly or early Friday.

Arriving ??? probably the am of Saturday but need to speak to rest of team 'Y Draigg Gogh' to ensure a full compliment.

Whatever happens, I'm not leaving a seven year old by himself in a tent to go off to some pub. You guys go and have fun, but I'll stay at the campsite.
Even the latter will not be a wise thing to do for me, not this time anyway. (and I mean not get steaming drunk) ;)

My ticket has arrived from Silverstone.  Still no reply from Whittlebury yet (posted my cheque a couple of weeks ago).

Apart from a tent and gazebo, I'm a bit bereft of normal camp cooking type facilities.  Can a cadge a bit of heat from anybodies burner to cook my tartiflete?

Post by: Piglet on September 04, 2007, 08:45:41 pm
Steve, I'm sure someone will lend you some heat.  We might be over if you're cooking Tartilflette!

We'll be at the circuit rather than at Whittlebury but if anyone needs to borrow kit just shout, we'll be bringing the trailer so should have space and we've got quite a lot of spare kit.

Steve- on the subject of camping kit Nopanic has PM'd me with a sensible plan that we put our heads together to sort out kit and grub etc. There isn't much point in us turning up with 22 gas BBQs and 2 tonne of bacon but no wheel of death. So who's got what and what do we need?
I have a 20ft marquee and 240v power, lighting etc. to get us started but won't arrive til mid morn on Sat- so not very helpfull to the Friday mob.
 Your thoughts?

Post by: termietermite on September 04, 2007, 09:56:54 pm
Sounds like a plan.  I'll have only one small gas stove, but will contribute grub as needed (Rillettes, anybody?)  Steve, do you need some genuine Reblochon?
Edit : Anybody who needs (not too extravagant or hard to find wine/beer/Froggie food) supplies, please pm me.

Ok -

Arriving Friday (hoping to get there about 3-4pm)

I will be bring a gas BBQ (one with hot plates), big building site size Kettle, paperplates (no washing up  ;D)

8 x camping chairs (for the DFH crowd), 5 gallon water holder, small table,

Food - Handcut Bacon, burgers, sauasges, other meat (hopefully not roadkill), coffee & Tea.

I have a small car fridge for the meat, till Dr S gets there with his bigger fridge.

Now the only problem, is for the people who are staying Sun night, as I have to be back Sun eve.

My Wheel of Death, has a flat tyre, so I won't be bringing that.

If I'm bringing anything else I update this post.

Oh yea - Almost forgot  - I'm bringing  -BEER ! and asprins ;D

I'm also planning on arriving late afternoon on Friday and leaving after the race.
Apart from my tent etc, I have an Electrolux 12V / 240V / gas portable fridge that can run off a genny if required.  Also, I'll bring a large wheeled US style cooler.

I'll talk nicely to my chickens and bring along some nice freshly laid free range eggs.

Debs, I have some Leffe / Pelforth etc but, to give that Gallic feel to the place, a bit of saucisson / rilletes / cheese would be much appreciated.

I suspect I will bring the camper. I will have to awning and a fridge. I will bring the Cadac BBQ aswell, If there is anything people could do with let me know and I will see if I can sort it out. (PS I have no tents at the mo)

Although I am unable to make it this year, 'Team Y Draig Gogh' will be present.

They attended the DfH party at LM.

Paddy, if there any CA flags left, could you give one to 'Welsh Bob' and I'll donate to server fund or something of your choice.

As piglet says we will be there but at the circuit not Whittlebury, some time Friday late AM we have a little tent maintenance to do as we put the frame up (renew some springs) if anyone does need kit PM either of us before Wednesday so we can pack it.

I'll make a note of 'Welsh Bob'. Can you tell him to find me at Whittlebury? We'll drive a Dutch grey VW Gulf mkIV with a dark grey Union Jack on the roof (tha missus' car ;)).
Tomorrow evening Dirk will be here at my workshop, I presume he will know where the bag with flags are.
Destination of donation should still be DfH as the €25 came out of that wallet in '06, I'll ask LangTall to contact you about payment details.

As an aside we bought some of the Roblochan (sp?) for tartiflette and it's fab!

BUT we then found that they sell it in our Costco as well if anyone is looking for some, more expensive than in Carrefour but not a bad price if you have to factor in a channel crossing  ;D

For anyone who travels around I've found Reblochon at Waitrose in Sandbach, Cheshire (handy for the M6) and also at Tesco in Cambridge (the one on the A14/A10 junction).  Absolutely vital for proper tartiflette, somehow Munster isn't the same, neither is tinned tartiflette from E.Leclerc  ::)

Event tickets will not be available for sale at the circuit selling points. I am afraid if I order my ticket know, it will get to me after the race!

Don't know how fast they are, but you could ring them on +44 8704 588 216 and ask...

Maybe having tickets sent to someone like Rick Cutler might be an idea?

Can you book them to collect at the circuit?  There is usually an office outside the gate that you can collect from?

Do you want me to ring them and ask?

We should arrive somewhere 4/5-ish. We can drive up to the main gate, but I presume we won't get in, and the main gate is quite a walk from the paddock. Can one of you (Keith or Piglet) PM us your mobile so we can call when nearer the circuit?

As Paddy said, I would be glad to come over to the main gate, or anywhere else you would like to meet. Passing the ticket to Termie, so she can give it to me is also fine. I will look you up on the circuit then to pay you back. These things always have a way of sorting themselves out.

Thanks again Piglet!!

Done  ;D  £23 including a handling charge ( ::))

Amusingly the website has a line for booking fee on it which says 0 all the way through and then it dumps a handling charge on at the end whilst the booking fee still says 0.  That's a pedantic difference even for a pedant like me!!

Anyway, it says they send tickets first class so I should have it in plenty of time (famous last words....).  We can sort out handover at the time, I'm sure it will be straightforward...

Title: Re: LMS Silverstone

As Paddy said, I would be glad to come over to the main gate, or anywhere else you would like to meet.

We could just try the '05-trick. Back then I picked up Sander and the rest of PLM from the press-carpark and drove straight into the Paddock. When stopped we waved some cards and said we were in some kind of hurry ;D

If RockerRiert, Knetter and I wear Spyker gear and wave the Le Mans - Friday invitation, we might get away with it and drive straight through to the Paddock again :D

Andy 'one and a half cobras' (and a DBR2) is now also coming along for the weekend.
His brother in law works at Crouch Vale Brewery and he has suggested he could purchase a poly pin or cask of fine 'Brewers Gold' ale (Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival 2005 AND 2006).

It'll probably work out at about £2 per pint.

Any interest ??????  Please reply here as soon as poss so that he can sort it out if required.

My plans have now changed. Cannot get down until Sunday morning as I'm getting serious grief from Mrs S. I fear this could have a serious effect on next years 24hr double. Seeing as I'll now miss out on the Sat night fun are we planning some kind of get together on Sunday? I've been really looking forward to meeting up and a spot of camping but Sundays as much as I can hope for at the moment! I also have goodies to pick up. What a bummer, weather looks perfect too!

"...a five minute walk to the track" according to the brochure of the campsite. Camping Eau Rouge Dejavue?

One of our crew rang in a panic yesterday afternoon when we were just approaching Banbury to ask which way the campsite was - he was lost in a field and it didn't sound like the one with the cows & sheep in it! I must make a point of finding out whether he got home or if he's still in the woods  ::)

...and after a quick repaint it left the pit box again

Great photos there Muz and Paddy.

Good to see all the "Spa" lot again, and to chat Stev Brown again too, next time you pass me on the A12 give us a wave.

Sorry Keith and I were not able to meet up with you on the campsite, we popped round, but you were all in the Paddock Bar (what again! ;D) I hope you found the bottles of red and white wine I left?? We put a few away at my place instead, so Sunday was a bit slow.

I hear that you all had a good evening as I bump into Dark Warrior, in the afternoon on the paddock bridge, who looked some-what shabby to say the least!

Good weather, good beer, great people - what more can u ask for.

Special thanks to my son, Sam, who was not to sure what to look forward to, but came back tired, big smile and can't wait till the Le Mans trip (may be 18 months time due to school). He made me proud, kept an eye on Harrison and was socialble to everyone. I wish I knew where he got it from.

Thanks to everyone waiting for the food, bloody BBQ, borrow a catering one next time.

Steve, your chickens eggs were great, nice yellow yokes. Thank them for me give them more food next meal, I know its only chicken feed, but thanks.

And thanks to everyone who helped, joined in and had fun.

Just bowled up - about to settle down for a long evening in front of the telly with Mr T watching the race. 3 French class wins, including the Saleen - I came home a very happy bunny. (I think Piglet was about to disown me when I started singing the Marseillaise ;))

Great weekend as ever guys.  Thanks especially to Ade for keeping me company on Sunday evening - the campsite looked even bleaker, and felt even colder, with so few tents on it.

Cheers to Neil for playing chef for the weekend - great grub - and to Steve for those eggs. Also to Sam for keeping mini-Paddy entertained so well - you are right Neil, he's a star.

See you all in November.

You're right Termie, Sam was a star! 8)

One last thing; we met Herni Pescarolo and crew at the Channel Tunnel (how the hell did they get there that fast?!?, we left right after the race...). I spoke briefly with a woman of the team. She told me Jacky Ickx and Jan Lammers were supposed to drive at the weekend, but didn't show up. Further questions weren't possible as we had to catch a train.
Does anybody know any more about this? ???

Delboy was talking about the difference between F1 and P1, and so I had a look.
The no.7 Peug did 1:31.692 during qualifying last Saturday.
The no.1 McLaren did 1:19.152 during qualifying on Saturday 7th July.

So the P1Diesels are definitely slower than F1 (which doesn't surprise me).

Sure. But even though the traffic wasn't that bad on the M1 - we were still surprised to see Herni at the Tunnel, especially as him and crew were already sitting down as we arrived. It just looks weird to me to leave the race track that soon after achieving a podium finish.
Maybe he got used to it :-\

On  my way up to Silverstone I took the M1 route which took 2hrs 15mins thanks to 3 lots of rubbernecking and the roadworks.

Going back I we went down the M40 and took 1/2 an hour off the journey........so perhaps Mr.Pesky took the M40 as well.

He would have been held up if he did, major accident at High Wycombe, M25 bound, we bailed out at Stokenchurch and went cross country.

Went back throught the lanes asweel as the M40 was looking bad.

Most annoying thing this week was flying to Tunisia and my bags going to LA! Spent two days in a suit in Tunisia with temperatures of 42degC! Next time I fly it is in shorts and T!

Nice pics Debs, but you've got the last link wrong - same as the third one and takes you to the GT's.

Thanks, Del, now altered.  Now you know what I was up to when I disappeared for hours on end!

Nice pics Deb!!

I agree. what great pics, think I'll put my box brownie camera away.

You got in to some great places as well, nice shots, nice lighting and no flipping fencing. Top marks

They are indeed excellent pics 8)

I barely take pics of cars nowardays. There are loads of people who are such a lot better in doing that, besides that my camera is crap. Oh, and I prefer the pics next to the track for some weird reason...

I met Debs half way around the circuit on a hike around the perimeter.  There are, indeed, some good places for car photos, without fences or crowds in the way, mostly right around the far side of the circuit though.
I'll (eventually) post up some of mine.

Every circuit (in Europe, that is) is like this now - a constant search for a spot without catch fencing!  Happily the grandstand at Luffield was open on the Friday (and closed on the other days) and that was excellent - and there were 3 of us in it!
